I thought I was alone with the sync issues until I checked this thread. It's driving me crazy.

I haven't got a workaround for the playlist sync but for adding songs to the iCloud Music Library, editing song tags etc. I've found the only way is to:

- Uncheck sync library
- Deauthorise this computer
- Sign out of Apple Music
- Reboot the mac
- Sign into Apple Music
- Authorise this computer
- Check sync library

But as with the other workaround this doesn't seem to last very long before it needs to be done if you want to add/edit another song.
Seriously considering downgrading to Big Sur.

I finally upgraded to Monterey over the holidays and have so far only run into one weird bug -

When streaming music from my Mac to my HomePods (OG or Minis), music comes out of my computer first for a split second before connecting to the HomePods.

Monterey, in general, seems far quicker to me than Big Sur so I'm wondering if this is just the OS working faster than it did before? I used to have a slight delay after hitting play (where the Music app would say "connecting to HomePod") where now that seems way faster but the trade-off is the slight delay until music actually plays out of the speakers.

I am pretty sure this is a Monterey thing as this was not happening prior to that.

All in all, I'm pleased with this update so far. Then again, I use the Music app for local library management and still manually sync my devices like it's 2011. Works for me!

maybe i dont get it since i use apple music and android, but what the heck is syncing and why does anyone need it? everything syncs in the cloud automatically
That’s it right there in your last sentence: everything syncs in the cloud automatically
And that is the problem, it’s not automatically syncing for everyone. And for some, like me, any changes made can take hours to be reflected elsewhere.

Unfortunately, there is no change as far as the sync problem is concerned.
If you edit something on a track in the music.app, it is not synced to the other devices. If I change something under iTunes 12.9.5.5, it shows up on all devices (including the music.app under macOS 12.2 b2).
Say Apple has not yet fixed the sync bug in Monterrey.

I've been doing some testing on my end and found some things:

1) Any Non-Apple Music music I add to my library, like music I've recorded with our band and added, gets uploaded normally and any changes I make to any tracks listed as "Uploaded" happen across devices almost immediately. Almost as soon as the Music app starts updating iCloud Music Library, I can see these tracks show up on my iDevices immediately, although they're not available to listen to or download on those devices until the Music app finishes uploading them. This is fast and how everything worked for me in Big Sur.

2) After adding any of my own purchased music (Ripped CDs or BandCamp) to my Library that gets Matched & shows across iDevices, and then change Album titles or any other metadata, DOESN'T sync immediately and sometimes can take hours to be reflected across devices.

3) Any Apple Music I add to my Library in macOS isn't being reflected on my iPad or iPhone right away. Same with adding tracks from my iPhone or iPad, they're not showing up in macOS for what seems like 10-15 minutes or longer, and sometimes I'm having to reopen the Music app to see any of those changes.

So, Uploaded Tracks seem to reflect any changes made immediately while Apple Music & Matched tracks do not.
I've also got a very large library (87,714 tracks/931GB), and I'm sure that's not helping things, but still. This process was better/faster on Big Sur.

And, to be fair, This "syncing" issue seems to happen among other apps that utilize iCloud or sync to other devices. Again, this is just what I've noticed, but I've found other apps like Mail, Contacts, Calendar, syncing Bookmarks & Reading List in Safari... All of ''em seem to have some degree of issues "syncing" across to every device. I'm leaning in to everyone's "Music Syncing" issues as being more macOS related as opposed to just the Music app. Hopefully things get better when the Music app is native. I'm just not ready to commit to running another beta on my main machine.

"Music" in Hi-Res with iOS + external DAC (as Apple recommends). Of course, changes in DAC occur without my intervention.

Same songs (streamed files) in "Music" in Hi-Res with Monterey + external DAC (as Apple recommends).
"Audio&MIDI Setup Utility" is open showing selected resolution. Well, one could change the general setting according to song (absurd, but perhaps worth the effort to play a complete album). But quality of album is not as easy to find as in iOS...
I'm not even sure if this is normal functioning, but other music player apps (Audirvana, e.g.) DO match bitrate of played files, surpassing whatever setting is selected in the MIDISoundSetupUtility.

If this is not a bug or malfunctioning,
Could someone explain how differently "Music" renders sound on iOS & Monterey?
Apple should have explained this in more detail, at least.

OR, Can someone assure technically that Apple Music is serving Hi-Res in Monterey's "Music"?
I know this affects mostly to AppleMusic subscribers, but also could be reproducible with owned files. A seamless behaviour, as in iOS, should be the expected feature!

^^^ How is your iPad or iPhone connected to the external DAC?
With Apple “camera“ connector (USB), this, the model with simultaneous lightning power plug (which I connect to charger/mains). The DAC is a Topping d10, powered exclusively through USB.
I made also same test with other dac’s; if they show resolution of file (usually by led-color code), result is the same: iOS Music works perfectly well.

Well, I don't appear to have this issue on Music for my app. I'm using Apple Music and whether I edit a Apple Music song I added to my library, a song I have uploaded to my Apple Music library or a "matched" song, as soon as I edit the metadata, it reflects both on my iPhone and my Android Apple Music. I'm not sure what I am doing differently than others, but I'm happy I haven't encountered the issue as of yet.
Currently on Music 1.2.2.37

I have an iMac 2019 and a M1 MacBook Pro 2021. Both run Monterey 12.1.

iMac 2019: changes to any meta tags besides "Love/Dislike" are not uploaded the iCloud Music Library and are therefore not reflected on any other device.

MacBook Pro 2021: any meta tag changes sync across all devices immediately. Only "Last played" can take between 0.5-24hours which is the normal behavior for the last years.

On my iMac all songs are downloaded and on my MacBook they're all streaming. Still need to test if that makes a difference for the meta tags not updating.

Interesting, mine is an iMac 2017 and any changes I make are immediately reflected and none of them are downloaded (all streaming)

Ok, I copied the music library from my MacBook to my iMac. You would think that Music on the iMac now syncs properly to iCloud, since its the SAME library that worked on my MacBook. On top of that it's also set to stream and not download – but surprisingly it stopped. So the meta bug issue somehow seems to be related to the computer hardware. Or some other strange combination of things that are beyond my powers.

For now I'll continue using my MacBook for listening and wait for the Monterey 12.2 update to hopefully be able to use Music on my iMac again.

What are you're final thoughts on the update with 12.2?

It's definitely faster, but the app still falls behind the iOS/iPad versions.
Main concerns:
- Back button is still a trigger
- Sometimes I get stuck / going back option missing / confusing tabs
- Scrolling feels a bit laggy
- Still don't understand why Apple Music, Library and Playlist sections have different layouts
- Artist section poorly designed (see image for yourself) Why would you put the cover art next to the track list when there is limited horizontal space. What makes this even more questionable is that in every other view in library they put it on top of the track list....

The Music app in the RC1 is only 3 builds newer than what it was on Beta 2. I have seen some bug fixes, but, in general, I suspect that more work will be done on the Music app in the upcoming updates. Hopefully.

So I got the new macos 12.2 and the search does function A LOT better....but this layout needs some fixing. Fields centered but content full width. Seems janky.

artist section seems fine to me, no one has a 900px width display. At 1160ish its perfectly fine. I guess they could just add another size break for below 1000px where the album art could disappear entirely.

Anyone notice any issues with Sound Check not working right?

Like I can put it on and hear it change volume for some, but i've also had some tracks come up that were majorly louder than others

(this is with an apple essentials playlist, not my own uploads or anything)

Is Lossless only available to certain versions of the OS for iPad? I have a mini that's a few years old and I dont see Lossless anywhere in the app
