I am also really interested in their RX580 cards but for me the Bootcamp compatibility is mandatory. The Windows AMD drivers are known for being very picky about the firmware modifications, if the usability is broken I will stay with my unflashed Pulse that works very well both in OSX and Win7. It is also strange in their Store page they mention only OSX environment without a single word about Bootcamp like in the other GPU pages...

For Windows installed in legacy mode, the EFI part should be ignored, isn't it?

In theory, yes, it should. But I will be more confident in purchasing one once this point will be clarified from MVC directly, they for sure should be able to test this compatibility quite easily (or at least from one of the early adopters). What I expect from this card is the same transparency of the Sapphire HD7950 Mac Edition (which I own in my collection) that works without problems (with the SAME bios) both in OSX and Windows.

Works fine in windowe csm mode, as well as uefi mode

Awesome stuff!

im happy to hear it works in EFI mode :)

one of the things that's a PITA with my Radeon HD 7950 is when its in Mac EFI mode, is UEFI windows will BSOD when the AMD drivers load

so I have to switch to PC BIOS and boot blind when booting windows in UEFI mode

could you post full System profiler shots? (ie one of the card in Graphics and displays, and then one of the card in PCI)

Im very curious to see if he is using a proper framebuffer or not :) (esp as you have a Non Pulse card right?)

I am also curious to see (if possible) what GPU-Z reports in Windows (BootCamp)...

I guess that having a dump of the VBios would be asking too much… but I’m dying to see how they made it work. I’m sure that it could be applied to all the other Polaris cards.

Re boot screen shot - If you've seen one, you've seen 'em all.

Yes and no. It would be interesting to know if for 4K displays, the UI scale is set to 2 by default. (This is the difference between tiny and normal-size boot-picker icons.)

Looks like MVC developed their own EFI Driver, although it would be as easy as hex editing a string to just grab an EFI driver from somewhere else and put your own name on it…

Yes! However, I must point out that this was the first Gigabyte card he did. He did it as a practice/test unit to gather information for when he goes live for future flash jobs. He is NOT ready yet,

As far as screen shots:

The device ID (0x1458 - 0x22f1) is correct for a GIGABYTE card, he probably used your own card firmware to do and not just flashed the Pulse firmware over.

very interesting! thank you for posting shots :)

it looks like MVC developed a UGA firmware for the cards in a similar way how the NVIDIA RTX cards work

ie just a basic setup enough to make the Mac Pro EFI happy, but then let OS X setup the framebuffer personalities etc, since no framebuffer personality is being injected via Firmware here

(I wonder if his Pulse cards retain the Special framebuffer personality they normally get given in Mac OS X 10.13+ )

Thanks. I know from past experience (I flashed my own 4870) of the importance of matching model, revision number..... Hopefully either or both of MacStore UK or his Polish partner will be ready to go not long after he is. Haven't dropped them a line yet.

Good. I already have two Sapphire RX 580, one for my Mac Mini eGPU, and one for my Mac Pro (not yet installed, I'm still on High Sierra with Nvidia card).

To buy one more would be unreasonable.

Are Polaris vbios checksumed or is that just Vega?

Looking forward to sending in a Radeon VII if you all ever get there, or re-evaluating when some big Navi or something comes out that you all can work with.

By request, here's how the MVC Sapphire Pulse RX580 appears in Windows:

RX580-MVC.PNG

Seems to work without issue in Windows 10 legacy / CSM mode. GPU-Z seems to think it's an MSI Armor card. Had some troubles on first boot that I think turned out to be related to a recent Windows Update patch as I'm running v1903.

Overall very happy with the purchase! Ordered Tuesday night, was shipped Wednesday night, had it in my hands on Friday. No original box, but included two mini 6-pin to 6+2 pin power cables and a dual 6-pin to 8-pin adapter. Was my first order from MacVidCards and was pleased it was very smooth.

Hmm I dont like how it has MSIs sub vendor ID, it means at least some of the ROM is not for the pulse card (this makes me a bit weary given the non reference port layout of the Pulse cards compared to other RX 580s)

what does the Pulse card show up as in OS X? does it use the specific orinoco frame buffer personality or a generic one?

if MVC did things properly it would use the orinoco framebuffer.
