I bought the Invisible Shield (just to cover the screen) and I'm super happy! Professionally installed, lifetime warranty, in and out service (at my mall).

Professionally installed? Really? Where did you get that done? I tried like hell to apply the Zagg and a BSE skin and I was ready to kill the sadistic designers by the time I was finished. Needless to say, my install attempts did not go smoothly and I'm back to a screen protector and a case. Just can't bring myself to keeping it naked.

I don't use a screen saver, but I do use a vaja ivolution case. The prospect of getting is scratched is to large for me to ignore, more so with the 3GS and the coating. The iPhone glass is very strong, but I'm not sure how scratch resistant the coating is. To that end, I got a case with a flap to cover the front.

My 3G has a screen protector film and lives in a Mock, so I can whip it out when I need to use it, but it remains protected from scratches when not in use. I keep it in a pocket, all on its own, no cash, no keys. I followed this principle with my refurbed 2G, and it is still in absolutely pristine condition.

Having said all that, if I dropped it on concrete, I'd be screwed!

Something to be said about keeping your computer and iPhone in pristine condition. Perhaps its my OCD talking (typing) but I need to keep both in min condition. It also helps when it comes time to sell also ;)

Been naked since June of this year. :) My Incase slider, matte finish, started to peel like crazy. At the same time, the screen protector needed replacement. Took both of them off, forgot just how nice the phone looks and feels without anything on it, and have kept it that way ever since. (Now I'm annoyed I ever spent my $$ on a case or screen protector)!

I keep the phone in my pocket anyway, and have experience no scratches, issues or any problems. In fact, the ONLY scratches on the back of it, are FROM the case. (The very small ones caused by the slider portion...assuming from always taking it on and off to dock it).

I look at it this way now. It's a phone. Part of the beauty of it is the way it looks......naked. By the time it gets beat up enough to worry about it, my contract will be up for renewal, a new model phone will be out, and I'll replace it anyway. Why keep it covered up for 2-3 years anway.

my iphone 2G has been naked since day one and the screen still looks perfect, screen protectors are unnecessary and ruin the experience

Not necessarily. The power support screen protector sold at Apple stores provides an almost identical surface to that of the bare glass--you can't tell its on. I see lousy screen protectors all the time however that clearly look like a piece of saran wrap on it.

I was without a screen protector for awhile until I received a nice big gouge right on the viewable part of the screen. It was completely visible when playing games, watching videos and very distracting. I got the gouge when I either pulled it out of or placed it into my jeans. I think it scratched against a rivet. Luckily, about 2 months later my iPhone was replaced under warranty for another issue and I'll never go without a screen protector again.

The case is not necessary though.

So my phone had it's... 5th? encounter with the pavement a few weeks ago. Haha. This time my gf got out of the car with it on her lap and it landed glass side to the curb. Just a little scratch on the glass but still not broken. :D

Either those people who have broken their phones abused them a lot and lied about it, or one of us is really lucky or the other... really unlucky.

I believe you. iPhones are a lot more durable than people realize. I've had a few catastrophic drops myself and its survived unscathed. Ironically, the worst damage occurs not during a bad drop but when I'm actually trying to be careful with it. I never thought that pulling my phone out of a pair of soft jeans would cause a nasty scratch--but I forgot about that rivet. Sigh.

I just took my phone out of the griffin wave case, and it feels like a little jewel. But when it the case, it feels just a bit more rugged and a bit more like a phone. I like it out of the case for short periods, but can't imagine using it regularly without the case. Dropped it for the first time about a week ago when getting of the car. Not a scratch, thank goodness.

The exact same thing happened to me with my brand new iPod video in 2006. :(

I keep a screen protector on my iPhone, if it got scratched it would just bug the hell out of me. I keep it in a case too, because I'm REALLY clumsy :p

I actually had it naked for most of October, but then I noticed tiny scratches on the screen. Can't see them when the screen's on, but I didn't like that I was damaging my phone.

Its not really a looks thing for me, though it does look nicer without its casings.

For me, its all about the ease of slipping it in and out of my pocket. The silicon cases cause way too much friction. Mine's been naked for a couple months now.

So far my 3GS has been naked since last wednesday, when I got it. I do carry it in a Liz Clarbourine pouch for smart phones.

I had it for my Storm but it never really fit right to me. It's perfect for my iphone though, so thanks Verizon.

It's just so pretty and I'm not sure if I should get a case just in case.

When I had my Storm I dropped only once real bad and that was in a parking lot.

I've never had a case on my 3G, and I've always thought that's the way it's supposed to be. I see so many people with iPhone's that have bulky, unecessary cases to protect them. I'm very protective of my phone, and thus have minimal scratches around the silver trim.

At one time I did have a screen protector on the phone, but the screen looks so much more crisp and vibrant without it. I do find myself constantly wiping the phone with my shirt or the provided polishing cloth after I'm done talking on the phone.

I woke up this morning, looked at my iPhone and missed seeing it naked since the day I got it. I always have had my iPhones protected in something. Last time I have seen it naked was on the day of release. I currently have power support anti glare and I love it. I took or my case, agent 18. Now my iPhones naked and I like it a lot. I'm going to just keep the anti glare on though and keep it in a pocket with nothing in it when not using it.

I don't trust myself to fully just carry it around naked like this, I understand it's a strong phone but whenever I drop something this nice to damage it, it urks me. Also I'd like to keep the resale of this pretty high so I can sell it to get the 4th gen.

Ha! This same exact thing just happened to me yesterday! My girlfriend was navigating with Maps (and somehow got us lost...) and when we stopped to get food, she got out of the car with the phone on her lap. A long fall to the asphalt and two bounces later, my iphone only has a little scratch on the backside along the bottom that's barely even noticeable.

yeah im ready to do the same thing...these cases (no matter which one) add too much bulk..you dont notice till you take the phone out of the case...

i figure by the time it gets that badly scratched now, it will be time for my upgrade on the 4g...

She got you lost even when using Maps and dropped your iPhone? Dump her before it's too late, unless the "hot overwhelms the crazy" in which case you should post pics. :)

I just broke my iphone because I was free ballin' it...

I actually don't like to use the phone w/o something on it. I was using a Feather and then tried a Speck Candyshell. While I had the Candyshell on, I droped it 3 times in a week from table top heights. The Candyshell is not coming off now.

BTW - if you use a Candyshell and drop the phone on a corner, that sucker will bounce pretty high!

I envy you guys. Ever since I heard of the new jailbreak bootrom I have been afraid to get another iphone so I keep mine in the omega supreme err.... otterbox. Its so damn big  but could survive a war :D
