Anyway, the automated system stated that all products on the order are prepared for shipment. Seems odd to me unless they are shipping the 3G versions as well next week.

Not really. Prepared to ship just locks in your order. I had an item from the Apple store prepared to ship, but not expected to actually ship for six weeks. I wanted to cancel it, but they wouldn't let me. I had to wait until it shipped and either refuse delivery or get an RMA and return it.

You know the same thing happened this summer with the iPhone 3GS. Our cards got pre-authorized, then charged, then it took like 2 days before it actually showed that it shipped from the factory, then it got through customs in Alaska (yay!) and everyone was excited we'd get it three days early. Then it got to the main routing hub in Kentucky or whatever and sat for two days since Apple told them to deliver it on a certain day.

I'm sure a similar thing is happening. Everyone will get all excited that they have tracking numbers on Monday or Tuesday, hammer the FedEx/UPS site all day until it's held up at the main hub, then come here and bitch, then resign themselves to their fate that it'll be delivered on April 3rd (like Apple told you). Some people will bitch about how "if it's not delivered on April 3rd I will call and demand Apple give me 60 new Macs" or some craziness, then it'll be delivered on the morning of April 3rd and the forums will go silent as everyone plays with their new toy.

Relax. It's coming on April 3rd. Nothing unexpected going on.

I remember people posting that they were getting "Prepared for shipping" on the 12th or soon after. Which I took to mean it didn't really much besides maybe a mailing label. Or it could have been trolls.

Totally. It's just cool knowing things are happening. :)

What is this, sanity? Get the flaming torches and pitchforks, folks.

Why did you complain?

Because a company charged you for a product you purchased?

Edit to Add: I ordered around 1EST on the first day. I had the $1 pre-auth for a few days, that's long gone. Still no further hits to my card.

I was originally charged the full amount..plust two dollar charges. To my knowledge, that was to verify funds and to see if the account was real. They were not supposed to charge my account again UNTIL it shipped.

Obviously Apple got it....which is why they did what they did. I didn't "ask" for anything free....Apple did that.

Have any of you 3G folks *already* been pre-auth'd for the full amount once before?

For example, if today's charge is just another pre-auth, it'll be my second one for the full amount.

(I get the reasoning posted earlier in the thread that they might do this again now, just curious if there's any pattern to the 3G people being charged.)

I had a pre-authorization done today as well for the full amount of my 32gig 3g iPad. Exciting stuff, but I'm sure it is a test...only a test! :D

They could surely ship it earlier than "Late April" if they would like....duh....but I would like to know when so I can plan the festivities. :apple:

Steve

I ordered at 8:14 PDT 3/12/10 I've not had any sort of pre-authorization or anything else. I ordered a 3G 32Gig iPad and am actually maybe a little concerned that nothing has been done credit wise.

I double checked the original confirmation e-mail from Apple and just for giggles hit the "order status" button, it only says that the case will ship by April 3rd and that the Apple Care will go in effect March 15 - 18, but nothing has shown up on my credit statements.

Anyone else in this boat?

Update to my earlier post, I was hit for the two iPads but no cases some time in the past 20 minutes.

I only had the usual two $1 holds that Apple Store orders always seem to do earlier this week (now gone).

Pre-ordered a 32GB wifi on the day it was avail for preorder.... so far nothing on my card has been charged.

I'm row row rowing right along with you. I ordered my 3G at 8:45 AM Eastern time on the first day and I paid with 2 gift cards and my credit card. And...nothing...no $1 charge...just NOTHING! I am about to cry a little.

Really hoping the 3g is shipping early.

Why?

Either the wifi just crapped in my MBP, or just the N did, or the time capsule lost the N (because obviously it is still working for G), whichever it is, it's just not working.

Guess that is my cue to do my system restore? Or just drop it off at the apple store. I'm supposed to be sending it in anyway....

Sigh. It's not a good week to be laptop-less either. Now to find the post-it with the phone number & case # of my customer care dude that was taking care of it all.

Come on and ship 3g!!!

I preordered the 32 wifi + 3g and case as soon as they popped up on the apple store. I just checked my credit card and my available balance is $790 less. That means they charged me for the ipad and not the case. I thought we aren't suppose to get charged until it ships... which would be late April for the 3G.

Ordered a 32GB 3G + wi-fi on 3/12 with my debit card and I got charged $1, then it dropped off a couple of days later.

Today, I have a pre-auth for the full amount. Don't mind the charge if it is actually gonna ship early. If not, I hope the pre-auth falls off soon. Was gonna move some money around before the actual ship date.

I remember when the iphone 3gs was about to be released some people who ordered it immediately had their credit card charged after people who ordered days later. Also some had theirs shipped after others that ordered later but they all arrived on the same day. So don't worry if you ordered right away and don't see any activity.
