People, people...I hate to dash your early iPad hopes......the card activity you are seeing is just a pre-authorization, a transaction just to confirm the credit/debit card is valid and that there is enough funds available to fund the transaction. It is not an actual charge for a purchase. Pre-auths, as they are called only stay on for a short period then drop off. The merchant (Apple in this case) then needs to pre-auth again. You may see this a few times over the short term.

It could very well be that - but the line items i saw posted don't necessarily agree with that.

Mine appears to be that at this point - i don't have the funds available, but there isn't a pending purchase showing to post.

Time will tell..... it just means leaving money in checking instead of savings for the 3G one.

Yes I understand that, but the fact that there is some activity going on means we are a step closer to getting our iPads in our hands! All this waiting...for the keynote...for the launch date...then waiting for preorder date...and now waiting for Apr 3. It is nice to see something happening.

Bill Me Later

Did anybody use the "Bill me Later" method of payment. I have been waiting for something in the mail, but nothing had been sent. Ordered on March 19.

I used them when I pre-ordered both the WiFi and 3G models. No charges have showed up yet when I view my account online (recommended). Check out their web site (Google is your friend :) )

Oh I agree!!

I'm waiting too and am very happy to see something going on. For me though I know it's premature as I pre-ordered a 3G iPad. Oh well.....

I have no early iPad hopes. I don't even have a shipping date! But, I never got a pre-auth when I ordered, so it is weird that they'd pre-auth now. I have no hopes that I'll see my order before the end of April, as advertised, but it is peculiar that the phone system says my order is prepared for shipment, I have a pre-auth and the online system shows no change.

Not sure what it means. But my available credit is less ~$880 (the cost of the iPad 64gig 3G with taxes).

Seems premature to charge for the whole thing. The actual item isn't showing up as charged, but the available credit is lower.

Very curious what it means. As others have stated, it could mean nothing. I imagine the wifi ones are going to have to ship soon in order to make their April 3rd delivery time frame. I think the 3GS shipped about 5-6 days prior to release day. So we're coming up pretty close on that.

Curious if they just so happen to have enough 3G versions of the iPad that they are able to send them out early. I realize it says Late April but at the same time it just seems odd that they'd put a hold on the card a month before it's released. Just seems very odd.

It is what it is though. I'll be happy if I get it sooner, but I shouldn't expect it to be here earlier than late april I suppose.

I've got pre-auths on my debit card. Yesterday the iPad showed up (base model, $525.45). Then today the dock ($30.54) and case ($41.07) showed up as well.

Customer Support says ---

I just got off the phone with Apple Customer Support and they told me the hit to my credit card for the iPad 3G was in error. They are only authorizing the Wifi versions this week for shipment. She said it was a system glitch and they are apologizing for it. No 3G to be shipped before the end of April so she told me. Appeared, she knew what she was talking about as she offered the info to me before I even asked.

P.S. I can wait for my iPad 16g 3G ---I can -- Yup!

charged

Got charged too, I called my CC and they said they "authorized" the payment, hopefully we'll see shipping soon.

My quess, we'll get units by Thursday and Friday of next week.

I highly doubt it. Shippers are very adept nowadays with shipping out commercial products on specific days. Take the video game industry, for example. If a game "releases" on a specific day, it arrives at your house that day and no sooner. A couple of years ago that didn't seem to be the case - you saw early/late deliveries frequently. Nowadays, they seem to be much better at delivering only on the specified date.

I used Billmelater for the 64g 3g and the standard dock is charged to the account the 3g ipad and the keyboard dock haven't yet.

Well that is good to know you can access online. Thanks I will give it a shot. I actually like this service. I will definitely use it again.

I ordered the Wi-Fi + 3G version which is not suppose to ship until Late April or Early May. Whats weird is usually Apple does not charge your credit card until just maybe a few days or maybe a week in advance of the shipment. One would not expect them to charge or authorize your card until they are ready to ship the thing. Then if that is the case why did they charge my charge my card tonight?

Does this mean that they are shipping early for a surprise?

I Pre-Ordered yesterday and got hit with two "Pending" transactions, and then got hit with two more today, I would assume the one today is that actual charge. Needless to say, my Credit Card company gave me a ring because apparently $1500 pending in two days is "fishy" ;)

Money was taken two days ago (for 3g), now its all back in. I guess they did make a mistake.

here's an interesting one that should cause a bit of discussion...

I just got hit with a charge from the future!!

Check this out..

The price of the accessories I ordered.. dated 2 days in the future!
