I look at the screen, not the bezels.
At least for how I use my device, Touch ID is a lot smoother. It just works. I did have some problems with sweat/grease blocking the sensor on 1st generation Touch ID, but the 2nd gen works perfectly for me. Face ID requires more attention, but I haven't tried it on iOS 13.I’m with ya. While I do love the newer devices with the slimmer bezels, I have to say I’m not bothered by the older design. I did order the space gray, so I’d have black bezels because I think it will flow really nicely with dark mode, but I’m not at all worried about it, and I’m kind of excited to have one device that still has touch ID. I’m one of those weirdos who kinda misses it.

What makes you think they will go on sale?I am holding out in buying the iPad mini 5 until next month's Black Friday and it will replace my still-working iPad mini 2.
LOL, I was kidding. I have the mini 5. Just imagining what some on this forum might say (and have said) about the mini's "dated" design.
Don't no, just hoping. What makes you think they will go on sale?
I have Mini 4. It runs just fine. It will handle your regular web browsing, ebooks and photos without breaking a sweat or any annoying lag. Will 99% not receive iPad OS 14 though. If that really bothers you then yeah it’s worth to spend extra 480$. Personally I don’t mind continue using it on iPad OS 13 for a couple more years afterwards, all the app support will still be there. Perhaps will get Mini 6 if it’s ever released. Is there much diff from a mini 4? i can get a as new condition 4 32gb 4g here for $320AUD or the 5 64gb 4g is $799 new, is there $480 difference? Mainly want for ebooks at home, and bigger screen than my iPhone 11 pro for photos for my business when out quoting, have a iPad pro 11" too.
Mine is due to arrive next week. I’m looking for something super light to put on the back. I’d like to just put a thin skin, but I’m not having luck finding one.

it is a dated design. That’s plain to see. Apple built it out of the leftover parts bin. It’s still a great little tablet. I still own a mini 1 and 2 (Kids use them for YouTube). However, there‘s no way I’d personally buy anything with a home button any more. iPhone X said goodbye to those A few years ago. My 2018 iPad Pro said goodbye to the home button and the gen one Apple Pencil. I still like the mini form factor but no way I’m going to go backwards in tech and need to carry around two generations of Apple Pencils. Now if Apple ever updates the mini‘s form factor and internals... I buy one again.
The bezel stuff is so overblown. It’s got a gorgeous screen with wicked fast performance. Speakers are better than mini 4 and pencil support. And very good price. The style over substance means jack to me (I have a pro 11 by the way as well)
That doesn’t really bother me either, especially with the dark mode and black bezels, and I don’t mind touch ID.
I doubt I’ll get a pencil, unless I wind up liking the Logitech crayon okay and use it to go back and forth between devices. I don’t really want to keep up with 2 pencils for sure. It’s not like I use them SO much I have to have them for both.
I’m just still struggling because I haven’t gotten skins yet (wanna keep it super light and thin), so I’m not really using it much at all.
The Logitech crayon really isn’t a bad option. My daughter uses one for school. I prefer the shape of the the Apple Pencil but getting used to the Logitech isn’t an issue.
