Congrats on your purchase! I also came From a mini 4, biggest improvement for me was the ram and processor, I love it!

I look at the screen, not the bezels.

I’m with ya. While I do love the newer devices with the slimmer bezels, I have to say I’m not bothered by the older design. I did order the space gray, so I’d have black bezels because I think it will flow really nicely with dark mode, but I’m not at all worried about it, and I’m kind of excited to have one device that still has touch ID. I’m one of those weirdos who kinda misses it.

At least for how I use my device, Touch ID is a lot smoother. It just works. I did have some problems with sweat/grease blocking the sensor on 1st generation Touch ID, but the 2nd gen works perfectly for me. Face ID requires more attention, but I haven't tried it on iOS 13.

This was exactly my thinking too! For several generations of apple products now I’ve gone with a white front option but dark mode + the iPad mini in black feels so futuristic! 7 year old version of myself would be very pleased at how it feels so Star Trek TNG to use.

I got my iPad Mini 5 last week and I love it. I’ve found that using the Bluetooth Magic Keyboard is really handy for typing when using forums like this one.

Plus the Mini 5 is way quicker than the old Mini 3 that I had.

The mini5 is an excellent device

its my only Apple purchase so far this year and still happy with it, 7 months later. Especially with a perfected jailbreak released just yesterday for my IOS version (12.2)

Why miss the case and cover when you can get it?

LOL, I was kidding. I have the mini 5. Just imagining what some on this forum might say (and have said) about the mini's "dated" design.

Or have already said either in sarcasm or in truth.

I love my Mini 5. It is the perfect size to use while in bed or laying on the sofa. I had a 9.7 ipad before and I found myself not using it as much because it was too big to just lay in bed or the sofa...but the mini is perfect!

I hope they dont stop making the Mini and for the Mini 6 we can get a modern design. A compact 7.9 screen with LTE would be a great device to have on you.

Is there much diff from a mini 4? i can get a as new condition 4 32gb 4g here for $320AUD or the 5 64gb 4g is $799 new, is there $480 difference? Mainly want for ebooks at home, and bigger screen than my iPhone 11 pro for photos for my business when out quoting, have a iPad pro 11" too.
I have Mini 4. It runs just fine. It will handle your regular web browsing, ebooks and photos without breaking a sweat or any annoying lag. Will 99% not receive iPad OS 14 though. If that really bothers you then yeah it’s worth to spend extra 480$. Personally I don’t mind continue using it on iPad OS 13 for a couple more years afterwards, all the app support will still be there. Perhaps will get Mini 6 if it’s ever released.

Mine is due to arrive next week. I’m looking for something super light to put on the back. I’d like to just put a thin skin, but I’m not having luck finding one.

I got my mini 5 skin from bestskinsever.com. It’s the clear kind with solution. I have the Apple Smart Cover for the front. This combination makes it a very small and tidy package.

Looks great! Congratulations on your new mini 5. I love mine - perfect size for sofa or bed use and for travel.

Had a look at one yesterday, the screen with the bezels top and bottom just seems so small after using a 11" pro, not sure i would want a home button again.
My main interest is for ebooks, checking surf cams from bed and bigger screen for showing clients photos to save lugging my 11".

I got a mini 5 Saturday. Been limiting the use until I had protection. Today I got my PowerSupport crystal film screen protector (flawless install) and my Rickshaw Bags padded sleeve like I always use...I am up and running!

it is a dated design. That’s plain to see. Apple built it out of the leftover parts bin. It’s still a great little tablet. I still own a mini 1 and 2 (Kids use them for YouTube). However, there‘s no way I’d personally buy anything with a home button any more. iPhone X said goodbye to those A few years ago. My 2018 iPad Pro said goodbye to the home button and the gen one Apple Pencil. I still like the mini form factor but no way I’m going to go backwards in tech and need to carry around two generations of Apple Pencils. Now if Apple ever updates the mini‘s form factor and internals... I buy one again.

Yeah the carrying around 2 pencils was something that I really considered. I just figure I’m not really gonna be using the pencil on the mini - planning to do more reading and other stuff on there and keep the writing for my pro.

Honestly though, after a few days in I’m still trying to see if it’s really gonna fit in my lineup, or if I’m gonna still grab for the pro or phone and leave the mini sitting. I LOVE the size for sure; just have to be sure it’s a justified purchase.

The bezel stuff is so overblown. It’s got a gorgeous screen with wicked fast performance. Speakers are better than mini 4 and pencil support. And very good price. The style over substance means jack to me (I have a pro 11 by the way as well)

That doesn’t really bother me either, especially with the dark mode and black bezels, and I don’t mind touch ID.

I doubt I’ll get a pencil, unless I wind up liking the Logitech crayon okay and use it to go back and forth between devices. I don’t really want to keep up with 2 pencils for sure. It’s not like I use them SO much I have to have them for both.

I’m just still struggling because I haven’t gotten skins yet (wanna keep it super light and thin), so I’m not really using it much at all.

The Logitech crayon really isn’t a bad option. My daughter uses one for school. I prefer the shape of the the Apple Pencil but getting used to the Logitech isn’t an issue.

Honestly, for my uses it would likely be fine, but I’m gonna try it for a bit before I part with my pencil 2 (if I can make myself). I may just keep the Logitech around since my grandkids would use it anyway, and then I’d have it if I needed it, but still use the pencil 2 with my pro.

Only thing is, I don’t have a charger for the Logitech crayon, and have no clue what kind to buy.
