With the mini 4 being my most used apple device, mainly due to the formfactor and light weight, I decided to upgrade.
Managed to sell my mini 4 for a very good price and got the mini 5.
Here it is with the clear case I got:

I miss the apple combo of silicone case and Smart Cover, but this clear case is good and keeps the iPad thin and light.
Cheers.
thinking of getting our daughter a mini 5 for Christmas. Get 50 pounds off using very.co.uk
The size of the mini is awesome. I did wind up returning mine - just couldn’t make myself pick it up at night in bed instead of my phone. I just couldn’t find a way to hold it that was as comfortable for me as my phone with Loopy case. I really wanted it for reading, so I’m a bit bummed about that, but since I still had to prop it to read, I figured I could just use my 11” pro when I want to read in bed.
I really wanted to find a way to fit it into my lineup - it’s just such a perfect little device.
No point to it if you are going to prop it up or use it on a desk for reading, any size iPad is good for that, where the mini wins for reading is holding it like when reading a book, one hand and and thumb for flicking pages, it's perfect.
I use the mini for reading, as well as everything else. No eye fatigue here after several hours, whether using the Kindle or iBooks app.I've always thought of using my mini for reading but have a kindle. Be nice to use just one device.
How many of you use their mini for reading rather than a kindle?

I'm looking to upgrade my iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) to the new iPad Pro 11 when they come out. If they don't release them this year, I might pick up an iPad mini 5. If there are some Black Friday deals I'll jump on that quickly. Just want something for reading on the train ride.
If Apple releases an iPad Pro mini or 9.7 pro again with less bezels I might be tempted to get the smaller one. I had the 9.7 pro and really loved the portability. My sister really enjoys it now and it works well to this day.
At the moment, the Mini 4 should be just fine, but there’s a high likelihood that iPadOS 14 won’t support the Mini 4. If you want to future proof your purchase, I’d recommend the Mini 5.
That is, unless you don’t mind iPadOS 13 being the last OS your iPad gets. Just my two cents.
Plus you get a True Tone display with P3 wide color, an extra GB of RAM, a vastly improved front facing camera and a processor that is four years newer. It’s a great upgrade from the Mini 4, but that does sound like a large price gap. Choose the iPad that’s right for you, of course.
I think iOS 14 will drop support for A8 devices as Apple continues to improve iPadOS.Who knows if mini 4 gets iPadOS 14. It’s too early to tell though, I guess it depends on how well it performs (though the thing is I don’t see reviews of the Mini 4 on this OS, compared to the Air 2 and people have said that it works very well with iPadOS 13)
I'm still trying to get a realistic sense of the size. Is it something you could hold/operate with a large adult man's hand, or is it simply a two handed device? Anyone got a comparison photo?
I wish I knew the size difference compared to an iPhone 6/7/8 form factor. Mainly interesting in moving my gaming addictions to a device that's not performing surgery to play on, but not a giant canvas like the full-size iPads. I think the mini is the perfect fit, especially with the A12 Bionic graphics horsepower. I just can't visualize the physical size.
Also, the bezels are great since it gives you a spot to grip that isn't causing press or swipes on your screen.... at least I think so. Also Touch ID is something I can't part with. Still have my iPhone 8 because of that.
Getting tempted to get a mini 5
those with 11 pro max or Xs max it would given the size differences?
I have the 11 inch pro which the wife has now just thinking getting one to hold me going before the next 11 inch pro arrives...
Yesterday I purchased a iPad Mini 5 256GB off the Apple On-line Military Store at a discount and did not have to pay the State of Florida Sales Tax. This unit will replace my still-working iPad Mini 2. Total cost was $494.00!Also decided on the new Mini 5. Normally, I stick with regular 32gb iPads for low pricing, but the military store offered this model at a good price. A chance to experience the latest laminated display, fast A12 processor, and 64gb storage. Despite the smaller display, hope to enjoy and appreciate the smaller form factor especially as a portable tablet when traveling.
