I finally broke down and JB'd my iPhone and installed MyWi first thing. I can't believe how great it works. It seems about as fast as my home WiFi network. This really does make my iPad truly amazing. The only problem I see is I had planned on upgrading to the new iPhone whenever it comes out. Now I won't be doing that until it gets jail broken.

it is amazing. i bet the dev team behind it are millionaires!

and look at the money we r saving. no monthly 3G and no need for 3G ipad

love it

It's a fantastic app, and the developers did the best they could, but it's really not the best service.

Plainly put, you're looking at a bit over 2 hours of usage until the battery is just about dry. This makes it a no go for me.

The iPad 3G can get up to 9 hours, and it doesn't ruin my phone in the process. (Not only did it destroy my battery, but I was obviously unable to call anyone or text for the rest of the day. :()

That and every time I want to check a single email I have to boot up MyWi and initiate tethering. Too much work in my eyes.

Again, great app, but not for me. $30/mo is fine for me, and unless you're only using it once in awhile, I wouldn't recommend MyWi.

Ive been on the fence for awhile but Im going for it tonight! Gonna do the JailBreak and get MyWi.

Is it safe to use a credit card on Cydia to buy apps?

I absolutely love it! I'm very glad I didn't have to get the 3g iPad and pay att even more.

It works flawlessly on my iPad and my laptop so I'm very happy :)

ive never had a problem paying with my visa on cydia. have purchased many apps

How do you pay for it? I am still on the trial. Do I go to the Rock website and somehow purchase it there or do I do it through the app on my iPhone? This is one app, I will definitely be glad to pay for.

Also, someone mentioned the battery usage. I only will be using the app when regular WiFi is not available. In those cases, I will know ahead I'm going to be using it and will take my iPhone charger with me or do a charge in the car as needed. I don't see this as being a big issue for me.

I rooted my android phone (a mytouch 3G) and can tether wifi without an app as a result. It's tremendously liberating, and I get great connection speeds (1.5mbps or so). Battery life is fine; about 6 hours or so? Battery doesn't deplete if the phone is plugged in anyway.

I feel ya here, I wish my iPhone had email support... I really do!

There are two versions. Download the one that is NO ROCK for £9.99. Great deal. Will accept credit cards.

Is there a guide to how to do this? I've never had any interest in JB until i got my iPad. Maybe a video or an easy to follow online guide that walks a new person through it?

Thanks.

i also considered doing this but i will only be using my ipad around the house (with my home wifi) not out the only time would be on vacation and until then i will do the iphone sim trick:D

Exactly what are you doing on the Internet that's so intense that it depletes your battery so fast?

Head over to the iPhone Hacks forum. Plenty of guides there.

Hah... he does have a point about frequent sporadic use. There is something to be said about having seamless connectivity between wifi and 3g.

That said, my usage pattern so far has shown me to use the iPad in chunks of 30+ minutes at a time. If I'm out and about and use the iPad, it will be at a restaurant, or a park where I'm sitting down and relaxing. For quick stuff the iPhone works.

If battery life is an issue, pick up one of these

http://www.amazon.com/IMP500-iPhone-External-Battery-5000mAh/dp/B0013G8PTS/ref=pd_sim_dbs_e_1

Depending on your usage pattern, $360 annually may be worth not putting up with the hassle of jb and the issues of tethering.

With mywi i get speeds that are twice as fast as my dsl connection.

As for battery life, I think i get close to 3-4 hours with mywi on...long enough for me as the times that i will really need to use it are few and far between.

After I saw people tearing through their 250mb limit on the $15 ATT plan in 2 days, it made me that much happier in my decision to go WiFi iPad + MyWi. I don't need it often, but it's so nice when I have 20 minutes to kill in a spot with no wifi or when I'm having lunch on a weekday. I always carry a cord + power brick with me for the phone, so...

I can't get it to work at all.

JB my phone. Downloaded the no rock one from Cydia and it downloaded it with rock. After about 15 crashes trying to get a login i got it to go through. Go to mywi and it won't enable. Keeps asking for soft reboots and such.

Tried to go back and download the no rock one again and i keep getting errors.

What am i doing wrong?

If you have not previously purchased the program you need Rock. Uninstall the version you have and install Rock. Register with Rock and install MyWi.

Was just going to update. I got it to work, and it is the Rock version. I can't even download the NoRock version.

But i did get it working and i can now tether my iPad.

So i need to purchase the Rock one before i can use the NoRock? I didn't even see how to do that. I have no clue about all this JB'ing stuff so this is all completely new to me. I just want tethering and that's all i'm interested in.

The only reason i'm interested in the NoRock version is because i've seen several posts saying it makes your iPhone experience much smoother.
