I didn't have such a great report, I do have a 3G that has been used for 2 years now. My battery may not be as strong as yours but I do find that the usage of MyWi is good if there is just that time when I feel I need connection and my phone won't suffice. I travel from RDU tomorrow and if I recall I can either pay for Wifi in the airport or tether, you know in the event the airline is not on time. ;)

I'm with you there. I sat in my Delta seat mywi tethering for a good 30 min as the rest of the plane filled up. Used my little external battery charger and saw no battery drain.

I can't get it to work at all.

JB my phone. Downloaded the no rock one from Cydia and it downloaded it with rock. After about 15 crashes trying to get a login i got it to go through. Go to mywi and it won't enable. Keeps asking for soft reboots and such.

Tried to go back and download the no rock one again and i keep getting errors.

What am i doing wrong?

Did you download the cracked version of mywi? You should get the paid version and register. It's flawless and works great! I had issues with the cracked version and couldn't get it to work. Cydia and Rock should have the paid version ($10) I think, but worth it... I use "Rock" as my source as their User Interface is well designed and a lot faster to download than Cydia. Although, I am still a loyal Cydia fan... You can download "Rockapp" from Cydia once you're Jailbroken and then have fun shopping for all the great apps that Apple doesn't want you to have...

You can't download the no rock version without first purchasing the app via rock. I know, sounds silly but true.

I haven't crossed the JB line with my iPhone or iPad, but this is sure making me consider it. If it works, I'd rather tether through the iPhone, which I guess is unlimited on the AT&T plan I already have, versus the Virgin/Cradlepoint setup I have now, which caps at 5G and costs $60 (less if I top off for smaller data amounts).

Here's the question I have: does AT&T come down on iPhone users who are drawing, say, 20GB a month through jailbroken tethering? It seems that if you tether through a phone, you can easily draw that much or more with streaming, but if you use a non JB phone it would be almost impossible to draw that much data.

Any longtime JB tetherers been busted by AT&T for excessive data use?

I have never heard of anyone hitting 20gb a month on AT&T. I have heard of close to 10 but this seems excessive within itself. IMO, if you plan on streaming this much tethering is not for you.

I support the title of this thread :)

I'm 1 day into my 10-day trial and I'm amazed at MyWi. I'm using it with my US wifi-only iPad. Finding this app has saved me from all the fuss of getting a 3G iPad when they eventually come out in the UK.

Can't get over how blisteringly fast it is, which begs the question: exactly how does it work? What does it do that makes the connection faster by an order of magnitude from the iPhone basic 3G connection? My iPhone's browser crawls along at the best of times when on 3G. At work today, with my iPad borrowing the phone connection, it was just as fast as my home wifi connection. What is going on there? What is the app actually doing?

And what kind of data usage are we looking at from the iPad over the course of, say, a 15-minute browsing session? Just a ballpark figure would be a great help to me. Assuming totally average use, a mix of image/text sites. Anyone?

20GB a month! Tethering is not for you. Go with the 3G iPad and the unlimited plan.

The connection speed is the same as your phone. What you are experiencing is the processor, ram, and beautiful screen. Makes it seem like the connection speed is faster but it is computing speed that you are seeing.

Forget I said 20gb. I was just picking a high end number that might trigger an AT&T response.

Let's say....5gb. Does that red flag AT&T that you're using your iPhone a little too much?

Thanks, that does make sense. I'm just glad it's because of something like that and not my carrier deliberately limiting the phone 3G connection. If MyWi represented some kind of illicit workaround of the 3G technology they'd be all over it in a bad mood...

I'll only ever use MyWi in short bursts several times a day at work. So I'm very interested in how much data those short bursts will use up.

The most I've used in a month is 1.8gb and that was when I was downloading Win7 and Office2007 updates after an initial install. In other words, such usage is not likely to recur. I usually use 0.2gb when not using MyWi heavily. I never heard anything from ATT.

Right now I'm at sea level at gate D44 of Miami International wifi'd into my MyWi iPhone getting about 750k download speeds :D

Love mywi. Posting from my wifi only iPad while being a passenger in a car. Best $10 I ever spent. There's no way I could justify buying the 3G iPad with this as an alternative

Saves on the iPad 3G plan doesn't it?

I hope they port MyWi over to the android OS. I'm leaving the iPhone ship after 3 years and many happy days of jailbreaking freedom. Yes, it's sad, but I'm looking forward to the Sprint EVO 4G (android). Not saying it's any better than the iPhone, but gents...it's time for me to see what's over the horizon...lol Hoping I can get a tethering solution for the EVO as Sprint wants to charge $30 a month for their tethering service...bah ( No way in He!! I'm going there. Time to root the android and play with their toys... I'm still a Mac man though and that will never change.:)

Hmm, I'm getting a "Size mismatch" error for both rockapp and MyWi. Anyone else having this problem?

**Fixed it. Apparently I had a few Cydia updates that I forgot to apply.

The thing about JB/MyWi is that it has made me realize my decision not to get the 3G was definitely the right one. While it's extremely nice to know MyWi is there, it's very rare that I actually end up using it--I am almost always somewhere with WiFi.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful to have it, once or twice a week. I just mean that I was most likely unsuited to a 3G model even if I had been willing to pay AT&T twice for data plans.

What is a good external battery back for the iPhone?

I'm having to using mywi in meetings where there is no wifi and drain my iPhone battery fast.

Since I have small bag for my iPad now, I could put a battery pack in there.
