Didn't know Transformers 2 had IMAX scenes... I never bothered to waste my money on that movie. :D

Honestly, I hated how The Dark Knight Bluray kept switching aspect ratios throughout the movie.
Well it does, how can you not like the IMAX scenes in TDK:eek: they were the best parts of the film IMO.

Yes this will work. I went a step further and installed an internal slim-SATA blu-ray drive into my Mini. But an external USB attached drive will do the trick as well.

@hitekalex, did you have any trouble ejecting disks with the internal drive? I did the same thing with a Sony Optiarc 5600 and it wouldn't eject disks consistently. Occasionally I'd have to restart to get either a BD or DVD back. It worked great otherwise. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle and put it in an enclosure. Just curious if you'd had similar problems.

Not really.. I have had a couple of instances where a disk wouldn't mount on the first insert - it took re-inserting it to become readable. But I could always eject with keyboard shortcut.

Hitekalex- Which drive did you purchase to install into the mini? What is hard? Any disadvantages to removing the Superdrive? Should I just follow a turorial for replacing the standard superdrive? Thanks!

I got Matshita UJ-135A. The Superdrive is on top of the Mini assembly, so the install is even easier than upgrading Mini RAM or hard drive. Opening up a Mini may be a bit tricky, if you haven't done that sort of thing.. there are many videos on how to do that. Just make sure you have a recent 2009 Mini with SATA Superdrives - the older ones are PATA and won't work with the Slimline BD drives.

I have been very happy with the result - everything works just like Superdrive but with Bluray capabilities ;)

Could I ask you where you got it? Its not on ebay or newegg.

Cool, thanks. None to be found. I guess I will have to wait until someone lists one. How long does your 2x BD ROM take to encode a disc? I see some 8x drives like the LG for $109 that might be worth having external.

Newbie question

I purchased a bd-rom made by plextor (external) that also burns regular dvds. I realize that on the package it says it is windows but what I would like to know is that will/can the mac os x see the drive at all -- to burn regular dvds to? In Windows I know I need to install drivers. i am not sure what the mac equivalent of that is..I thought everything was just plug n play. Right now even if I put a "regular" dvd into this drive, it does not show up on my desktop like other dvds would and I wonder if I am doing something wrong or I need to return this drive and buy a drive that says its compatible with the mac os.

Thanks,
Neha

I'm new to using Makemkv, and just got my BD drive in the mail today, and was wondering if I should choose all english audio tracks in the main title and let it do it's thing. My goal here is to save to my itunes library for apple tv. I have a fairly good handle on handbrake, but am a bit fuzzy on the Make mkv interface. For the particular disk I am using a my first test run, it has two identical DD tracks and one LPCM track. I hope I am explaining myself right here. maybe a quick short school in audio formats from BD to apple tv is what I need.

I have a quick question so does this Make MKV work pretty much like AnyDVDHD? As it handles the BD+ encrytions and what not? Also once you have the MKV you just load that into Handbrake and then you can encode it into whatever you want right? Right now I am doing this whole process through my PS3 and it's really time consuming.

.mkv from copied blu ray

I posted this question earlier but never got an answer. I was having an issue with Battle for Terra and MakeMKV, so I used AnyDVD HD to make a copy of Battle for Terra. I then copied that file back over the a mac hard drive so that I could use MakeMKV to make a .mkv file that I could play back. So now I have a folder that has two folders named BDMV and CERTIFICATE. In the CERTIFICATE folder are a bunch of folders, but the one named STREAM has 81 .m2ts files, which I am assuming are the HD movie. How can I convert this file into a .mkv? I tried using MakeMKV to open up the files, but it wouldn't open up any of the files. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can turn my copied blu ray movie into a .mkv? I have used MakeMKV on ragular blu ray movies with no problem
Thanks,
Steve

i thought handbrake could read those decrypted .m2ts files?

I Ripped 300 and encoded to FULL HD. Great work.

But HandBrake doesn't recognise subtitles... even if MakeMkv seems to export them!

How to extract subs from the Blu Ray? And how to add them to the Mkv file? (MkvTools I guess, for the last operation)

Any word on this this worked. I am setting up a HTPC with a Mini and have been thinking about getting a P3 as well. If I can use it as a Blu-Ray Player and as a way to get Blu-Ray Rips I am all set.

I was able to get this working with the PS3 using Ubuntu 8.1 (i think 9 works also but havent tried it yet).
Its not a quick process by any means, but works and the results are pretty darn good. Im having some audio issues though, I cant figure out how to get LPCM on my MP4 file for playback on the PS3. But if you are using your Mini, you shouldnt have this issue.

If you need a quick walk through let me know.

I believe tsMuxer is where the subtitles are dropped. I think they are addressing it with their next release. I could be wrong though.
