Very nice update.

1) The voice is changed and is certainly more pleasing than before.
2) With the new TTS function, you still get some more robotic sounding pronunciations depending on the street name but overall killer feature.
3) IPOD integration is almost perfect. You cant browse your artists, playlists, etc in landscape mode which makes it a hassle if its mounted in portrait mode on your dash/windshield. However, once its playing you have access to all the ipod functions in landscape mode. One annoyance is that they chose to have you have to "Add" songs like a playlist when using this feature. So for example if you want to play a playlist you have to go through the added step of selecting a "Add all songs" button as opposed to just choosing your playlist and then hitting play. May actually be useful in some other circumstances so dont really see it as a problem. Integration is smooth.
4) One positive side affect of the iPOD integration is that if you are using this feature than than the volume buttons obviously work to control the volume. But by increasing and decreasing the volume of the music you are also able to do so for the navigation volume. I prefer this and its much easier. Still same access otherwise as before having to go into options.
5) Im almost certain the street name coloring/scheme has improved slightly. I think there is no more white border and the street names are a bolder black. Seems easier to read.
6) The POI database still seems woefully crappy comparatively to a google maps (which of course is expected but i am just saying...).

So for me the biggest necessary updates are:
1) Route instructions/directions. Its kind of silly they do not have this yet. You should be able to see how it is taking you and calculate an alternative route if you do not like it.
2) Need the ability to avoid certain "steps" on the route either upfront or during the trip. The block feature is crap and i should be able to say "avoid" route 95 and it will calculate the next best route.
3) Toss up between better ability to choose a place on a map by dropping a pin (right now its teeeeddiioous) or improved simulation. Simulation is a good feature but you need to be able to speed it up by 3-5x.

I'm not sure if it is due to 3.1 or Navigon 1.2 but Navigon opens much faster and is much more responsive than it was. So far so good. :)

3.1 made plain old Navigon 1.1 faster. I suspect Apple did a lot of fixing for the GPS apps in 3.1. Possiably better memory management as well.

That is just how the iPod Framework works. Navigon would have to write their own framework to make that one thing work. Rewriting the framework would also likely result in a rejection.

I am liking it so far. I need to see if they have corrected the screen dim issue and I don't like that there is not a "play all" choice for my songs or playlists in the iPod interface but otherwise it is looking really good!!

Now if they only lower it back to $69

You had your chance :) If competition heats up which it could vastly you could see price drops. Any software company can get into GPS nav on the iphone. They don't need to worry about designing hardware, getting it made, distrubed etc. They just need to make abstract software and send it to itunes app approval process.

Just used it to work this morning, never dropped GPS once, seemed to have my road position even better than before and the TTS is completely awesome.

...and YES the street names are darker/bolder so they were easier to read.

Easier way to AVOID roads and full UK Postcode are the two major things I think this now needs at the moment.

Overall, a superb update though :)

All these sound great, but where is the updated Europe edition?
At least here in Greece, appstore still lists the 1.1.0.

Just tested a few things this morning. The iPod functionality is pretty slick although it's sort of odd that they just don't use the normal iPod functions to listen to an album. Instead of just choosing an album and selecting the first song to start playing that album you are presented with a few other options to add/remove specific songs or select "add all" then confirm to start playing. Not a real issue but just strange that it's not exactly how things are presented to you when using the native iPod functionality.

I'm happy that I can now use the remote from my LiquidAux adapter to skip, ff, rew, etc. and it doesn't cause the screen in Navigon to dim/turn off. This was a problem in 1.1 but the problem seems to be gone now.

The roads, particularly the orange highlighted route is definitely wider, but I'm indifferent to that. Doesn't help me or bother me, just different. I do have one oddity with the auto day/night feature. When I fired up the app last night in the living room, it was in night mode. Not a lot of light so figured that should be expected. However, this morning on a drive to take the kids to school it was in day mode when it was still very dark out. I even pressed my hand over the sensors and it remained in day mode. Wonder if that's a bug or if it's using the clock instead of the sensors to determine day/night (wouldn't make sense to do so, just speculating).

The TTS is absolutely great. The voice is clear and the pronunciation has been very good so far. The one change I wish they would make is to not pronounce the name of the second street for close proximity second turns. My Nuvi would say "Turn left onto Main Street, then turn right" to let you know another close turn was coming up. The Navigon app says "Turn left at the T intersection onto Main, then turn right at the T intersection onto Vine."
It's just a bit too chatty for my taste but it's only an issue when you have lot's of turns close together.

The POI functionality remains abysmal. State searches only find a few categories and the near me & city searches don't find things that have been around here for ages. I didn't expect (but did have a sliver of hope) there to be POI additions but I did expect them to fix the way state searches were performed.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the interface and usability. Now that most of the right bells & whistles are in place (notable exception of route listing) I would like to see them focus on getting the POI functionality usable.

I wonder why just Europe was left out of the updates.... Very annoying as I have a fairly long drive to do today and it would have been nice to have, especially for the iPod integration!

UPDATE

Still no Europe 1.2 version :( Hope they get it online today or atleast tomorrow, because I would like to test it on Saturday with a little longer drive:)

I thought co-pilot didn't have speed cameras or remembered destination after restart. Yet

This table lists some things in future updates, so it should be consistent.

Used it this morning on my ~40 minute commute. The TTS voice is kind of odd, but that's to be expected (it sounds robotic on my Mac too). It's helpful, which is the purpose.

Day/Night I assume uses the clock (not the light sensor). Why would it make sense to use the light sensor for this? There's plenty of times where there will be light hitting the sensor even if it's dark outside.

I found pre-3.1 that I had to do a restore from a backup every three weeks because then I would stop being able to get a GPS lock in any app. Hopefully 3.1 fixed whatever issue was causing this.

iPod function is great, except I'd love to see 1) not using the on-the-go style playlists and 2) landscape list view of the songs. When the iPhone is in landscape and you hit the iPod button the list of songs shows up in portrait, which is hard to navigate.

Overall though, a good update (even though anything POI related in this app is almost completely broken).

Oh, also, i did notice that for some reason now with Navigon running and playing music while connected via USB to my Pioneer deck the battery percentage held steady at 100% the whole 40 minute ride. Before 3.1/Navigon 1.2 it would go down to about 92% by the end of the trip even though it was plugged in the whole time.

Anyone noticing worse GPS reception? Been a few weeks since I fired up this app, but GPS reception was pretty bad this morning. I had it sitting on the dash and it was still losing me. It was either having a bad day or things got worse.

No update for me?

Does anyone know why is is not showing the update for me? I have had the app for 2 months now. It is not finding it on the iphone or the mac. I am in the US. I am really getting frustrated.
