Good news for all iPhone fans: Today we submitted the update 1.4.0 for our MobileNavigator software to Apple! Soon you can enjoy 13 brand new features like navigation for pedestrians, a simple search via Google Local Search and the possibility to enter geographical coordinates.

Great news. Here's hoping that some type of route list\text view is included with the update. I love this product, but it boggles me that this feature is not included yet.

Well well that is some good news... I just bought this because of the black friday sale and now already a update? Quite nice let me tell you now let's hope apple reviewers won't take 2 months to aprove it!!
 
The last two updates Apple approved under a week once Navigon submitted the update. If Navigon did indeed submit the US version today, we'll probably see it later this week or early next week.

I'm looking forward to the Google Local Search. I won't have to open up the Maps app now when Navigon doesn't have a POI. I'm also hoping the other 10 features include at least some of the following: Route planning, a list of directions before navigation, some kind of gas price live service, an alternative route function like TomTom, and better display of street names.

This is a huge addition IMO, and basically an acceptance that their POI database doesn't cut it. But to leverage Google's local search and it's huge constantly-updated database is a really strong feature. They've now expanded their POIs beyond the Navteq dataset to all of Google Local. That's extremely useful.

Navigon has definitely kept the competitive heat on the apps in this category. 5 updates in almost 6 months.

Being an early adopter for this app has definitely not let me down.

I'm hoping for something in this regard. I like the app, best I've tried in regards to functionality, but the general slowness of most functions on my 3G is enough to make me think at times of buying Tomtom again. While I prefer the Navigon interface and functions, Tomom was much less painful to use from a speed perspective. (No delay in menu presses etc.)

Also, since the last iPhone update, I have many more issues with getting a GPS lock with Navigon. Hoping something might be fixed here as well.
 
Interesting. I hate having to find a location on Maps, then dropping a pin there to get the address, memorize it, then input it onto Navigon. Could someone give more details on this? Would it be possible now to put the name of a mall on Google Local Search and then it cranks out the directions automatically?

Also, I hope they improved the start up time as well. I've had so many instances where I'm driving, then I get a phone call, and afterwards I have to wait like 15 seconds just to have Navigon load up again.

I have both apps and Tomtom works so much better on my 3G...Navigon is so slow its almost unusable. I do think Navigon has more features and I did pay for traffic updates...but I find myself using Tomtom because it works without slowing down my phone or the app itself.
 
All right for Coordinate entry. I emailed asking for this feature. It's great to use Google Earth and find exact points you want to drive to (like going to a large office complex and pinpointing the entrance that's most convenient for you) and be able to enter them directly.

I feel the exact same way and the worst thing is that since we've had Navigon for awhile now it's not refundable..
 
Just keep getting better and better, certainly looking forward to it.
 
They're certainly great in some areas and awful in others communication wise!

Still no UK traffic so it can only be assumed it was rejected for some reason given all their other traffic enabled country updates are out!!

Still glad i opted for it from day 1 though...its paid for itself many times over!

If by awful you mean, they tell us something before they should, then yes. But at least they seem to keep us in the loop whenever they can.

The best part is that they seem to be developing this app very agressively, they could have just put this app out and maintained it only, but they are adding features almost monthly, this is great.

The app is slow?? I think your pbone is slow buddy no disrespect but a get 3G s and you will see how the app fly's.... ;-)

Feature-wise, the developers cannot be faulted. They are working so hard at making it a great app. I just feel that they're ignoring performance issues. I'd rather see a minor update that addresses these concerns.
 
Very cool update... really looking forward to the Google search. That was my #1 desired feature!

Well not only for this specific app but for the overall experience!!
Trust me 3G and 3Gs is like night and day....i had navigon on the 3G
it wasent to smooth and i was kind of blaming the app... But when i switched to the 3Gs i saw a huge difference and was no more complaning about the app being slow

A 3G is 1.5 year old technology, trying to run a .5 year old app.

Sure the app was developed during the time that the 3G was the current iPhone, and it works just like any other app.....at the speed of the processor that's there.

We have Navigon 1.3 running on a 3G with no issues. Of course it's not as fast as my 3Gs, but I can't (and don't) expect it to be. In our experience, Navigon has been very solid even on our 3G (in a thin case, and window mounted during use).

YMMV.

Didn't say it doesn't work, and I still enjoy the app. It is a solid app, but a bit too sluggish for me to give it a 5 star rating. Still my preferred navigation app however, and I'm looking forward to the new update.

In regards to the 3G being an older phone, and Navigon being a "newer" app, I still believe if they cleaned up the code a bit, it could run better on the 3G. Laziness on the part of the dev? Who knows. Considering it's the only app I run, including a previous install of Tomtom, that takes literally seconds between "button" presses, I find it hard to believe it's the phone.

Oh, I'm sure it's faster on the 3GS, and yeah, I wouldn't mind having one, but eh, there are more important things to spend money on then phone upgrades every year. You know, house, cars, kids college etc. etc. ;)
