...what are you guys using for a windshield/car mount?

Not the answer you are looking for but I have a Craven Speed mount.:D

For my Explorier I have a Griffin Window Seat that doesn't have the ipPhone 4 mount but one of the iPod mounts works ok.

3D Panorama View fixed too

Worth mentioning that the 1.6 update fixes 3D Panorama View which was broken under 1.5 + iOS4. Nice.

I also did not have to repurchase Traffic Live or 3D Panorama View. They were already checked off in the shopping cart. Perhaps that has something to do with the state of the device when you invoke sync? Perhaps next time try restarting your iPhone before syncing a Mobilenavigator update? Just a thought.

This app has been accurate and responsive for me on iPhone 4.

One thing I haven't tested yet is whether this update improves A2DP behavior when using a bluetooth device. Specifically, when wearing a Jawbone ICON, the first syllables of text-to-speech instructions fail to be heard. Directing audio through the iPhone speaker sounds fine, but through Bluetooth it seems as if the app has spoken something before the rest of the system informs the headset it should be listening. I realize that this might be an issue with how the ICON and iPhone interact and have nothing to do with Navigon. If this update doesn't fix it I'll contact Jawbone and see if they can help -- so far I've had good support experience with them.

Just one question for you folks with an iphone 4, what are you guys using for a windshield/car mount?

I've got ProClip installed in two vehicles, including the Adjustable Holder with Tilt Swivel and the Move Clip System.

The Adjustable holder has plenty of range to accomodate the cases we use, and the Move Clip makes it fast and easy to swap holders so we don't have to fiddle with customized fit when trading drivers (we don't use identical cases).

The ProClips were simple to install and look professional. No issues with GPS reception.

We use Griffin PowerJolt SE cables for power since in our case we don't have head units with iPhone integration. One of the cables is the for iPad version. Maybe it's just my perception, but the iPhone 4 seems to charge up dang fast when plugged into that cable :D

Previously I have used Power Support anti-glare film and it significantly increases visibility while driving. Driving on sunny days, where the angle of reflection can change quickly, I am finding the naked iPhone 4 screen to be difficult to read. I have pre-ordered their HD anti-glare film which should ship near end of July. I expect it will work fine with the Retina display, and I'm one of the people willing to trade a miniscule change in clarity for better overall visibility and smudge/fingerprint reduction.

Good luck!

I live in SoCal, so you can imagine that traffic is a huge issue for me.

Traffic is great. It looks at everything on your route and tells you when new things pop up while your en route.

Okay, I just tried to have Pandora and Navigon running together, and after the first pause, pandora didn't resume playing. :( Can anyone else confirm?

confirm :(

WOW... just got back from a 80 mile round trip.. 3 destinations, and this ran flawlessly! It was way more accurate, and responsive than I thought! love it... best $17 spent!

This only happens if you have the iPod Mode setting set to Audiobook. If you change iPod Mode to Music then Pandora and Navigon work fine together, because Navigon won't try to pause the music when saying voice prompts, but will just turn the music volume down temporarily.

To change iPod Mode, go to the Navigon Options, and it's the last option.

That said, it would be nice if Navigon could fix this for Audiobook mode. I'm not sure if they can though. It depends on whether Apple has provided an API for apps to restart other apps' audio or not.

Not to mention, I'm sure the new weather feature uses a little data.

Not to mention the Floating Car Data opt-in feature which is also new- and not even mentioned in the App Store release notes. This is sending data to Navigon too if you opt to use it.

Same problems.

Has anyone installed on their iPad. The old version worked fine but version 1.6 now has font display problems if you go into Options, Categories.

I've discovered this too. Whenever one clicks to options, instead of being provided with labels, one is confronted with large blank/white rectangles. Touch them and sometimes one can get a flash of white text against blue background. Some of these seem to repair themselves, but the problem exists at all levels of choice so that within categories, sequential options are rendered unavailable. I have the 3G ipad, tough I doubt that it makes a difference - and of course we don't get the new OS until fall.. which might make a difference?

I've had a stand alone garmin for a while now but for $18 my region Navigon is making it tough to pass up. Just one question for you folks with an iphone 4, what are you guys using for a windshield/car mount?

Haha I'm going ghetto. It's just sitting in the passenger seat.

For the 3G and 3GS I was using the Griffin WindowSeat. I really like it. It came with clip in fronts that fit the original iPhone, the 3G and 3GS, and the iPod touch.

I've contacted Griffin, and they told me they would update soon on whether we'd have to re-buy (it's only $30, but still) or could just buy a separate front clip that works with the 4.

For now, the iPhone goes into the console. The GPS receiver in the 4 is strong enough that it doesn't need to be at the window. In fact, I now get a full-on GPS lock indoors (not just an approximation via cell and wifi), which never happened with the 3GS. :)

Edit: Newest tweet from Griffin says "We're working on a new and improved version of WindowSeat. You'll love it!" so who the hell knows. I wish they'd just give me an ETA. I'm sick of not having it safe.

Yeah, I wondered about that, but didn't test before I posted. I prefer pausing, since I listen to a lot of podcasts, but for Pandora, that's moot. Good point about the API, too.

I'm going to shoot them a note to put a fix in their next update, but this is a small small issue. I'm very happy with this update.

im still using my justmobile xtand windshield mount. it fits, although not as snug as the 3G did..however i gave it the shake/bump test with my hand and it didnt drop, so i'd have to go over a pretty major pothole for it to fall out it seems:

Any idea how the "Floating Car Data" feature works and why wasn't it mentioned in the release notes?

Is the live traffic worth paying for? I know it's worth having, but $24.99 just for traffic data is ridiculous pricy

Multitasking question

Hi I have a question about the multitasking that Navigon now has built in. When I was using the new version yesterday (1.6), after about 10 min of running in the backround the app would quit on me. I know that the 10 min limit is a function of iOS4, however why would it quit while actively navigating?

Let me explain in more detail: I was driving up I5 about 30 min, well once on I5 there are really no more spoken instructions until I reach the next off-ramp. After 10 min of no spoken instructions, while the app was running in the backround, the app would stop GPS navigating.

What's the point of having the backround feature if after 10 min of no spoken activity it just quits? I hope this is a bug, not a limitation, anybody else experience this?

How does the weather and parking update work? After updating, I looked around for the options to see if this was something you can configure but couldn't find anything.

I have the CoPilot USA app that with the TTS comes to a whopping $8.

Is this app really worth all the extra money?

It's not pricey when you compare it to the subscription price of a lot of stand-alone devices.

It is well worth it for me, but I live in one of the worst traffic areas in the country: Southern California, where the same drive can take between 20 minutes and 2 hours. Having live traffic means that not only will it give me a different route depending on the time of day, it will keep checking the information along the route and possibly reroute me.

One time I was going from Long Beach to Santa Monica, and it had us go on surface streets the entire way, kept rerouting us, and it took about 35 minutes. When I looked at Google maps, the most direct route (via freeway) was so clogged, it had an trip length of over 2.5 hours.

Don't tell Navigon, but I'd pay $25/year for their live traffic feature.

To add to your post, while navigating the bottom left hand where it shows your distance to the next turn, sometime the arrow is very large and covers the numbers. Also when viewing the 'my routes' the colored boxes are very large. Probably has something to do with resolution changes. I'm glad I'm not the only one that is having problems. Was about to remove app and lose all my data to reinstall. Here's to hoping to new OS will make it better, but what would be even better than that would be an ipad specific navigon that fills the entire screen with an even higher res. to Mach the ipads.

I got my iPhone today and used the Navigon App (bought from a member on this forum - thanks Ntombi!) for a 45 minute trip. It worked perfectly. I was concerned about polish and ease of use, and I can say that this App feels great to use and is a very effective standalone GPS replacement.

I am using this mount, which, for the price, is great. $9 shipped and has a solid hold.
