I have no problem with the weight of the recent iPhones. I think they feel sturdy, I wasn't surprised when the iPhone 6 was found to be susceptible to bending under certain conditions..

Actually Apple has been reducing the weight on the regular iPhones. The iPhone 13 is actually lighter than the iPhone 11. And don't forget the lightweight iPhone 13 mini. It's actually lighter than the 2020SE.

The only iPhones that are going above 200g are the Pro and Pro Max, and simply because of the materials they use (stainless steel), which is heavier than aluminum.

The battery is the majority of the weight. To make a significantly lighter iPhone, they'd need to reduce "run time." I don't think anyone wants a shorter lasting battery....

The stainless steel is the largest contributor to weight. But I get your point.

Yeah, I'm more interested in the Pro iPhones. When I upgraded my 6S to the X I was sold on the stainless steel construction along with the new form factor. Ditching TouchID/home button was a huge selling point for me..

Unfortunately even most Android phone today are heavy as iPhone. I also has to inform you that your S5 Active weight the almost same as iPhone 13. Also did you just ignore the existence of iPhone 13 mini?

If anything, I'd like it a little heavier. The 6+ had a nice weight to it.
Oh really. Why? Why not go back and make those home phones that you can carry with you. Like in the late 80’s. Who likes heavier mobile phones?! Weird. The magic word is MOBILE. Mobile anything should be as light as possible but strong too. If Apple makes it with all aluminium then it shd be lighter. And take a little less profit then more people can buy their phones.

Yeah unfortunately I don’t have that amount of money to spend on a mobile phone that’s mostly used for calls, texting and social media. At least Apple are going towards lighter iPhones. Like you said with the 13 mini. But it’s way too expensive for most people. If Apple wants to increase sales they have to cut their profit targets a little and make the new iPhones a little cheaper. In fact they may make more money by selling more iPhones at a reduced price.

Just personal preference. I'm not really into a ~$1000-$1600 device being so light that it could easily be tossed about.

Also, my Pixel 3a XL is about the same size as my 6s+ and my 11 Pro Max, but is much lighter.

Guess which phone I think feels more premium?

Hint: the Pixel was about $400.

You mean like the iPhone SE 2020?
Not really, as it’s heavier, thicker, and feels like a 5 year old phone. I’m thinking more of an iPhone 13 Pro that’s half as thick and half as heavy. Same battery life, hence “the future”.

Can Apple please make their mobile phones lighter. This is its only downside. It’s freakin heavy compared to Samsung. I had a Samsung 5 years ago, S5 Active. It’s still with me. It still works after once I had thrown it across my living room during a disagreement with someone (regret it tho). But the phone didn’t break and worked as normal. I switched to iPhones mainly for its quality IOS and prestige (got to be honest). I like wearing loose pants and the iPhone X (the one I got now) is freakin heavy and it pulls my pants down a little. There are other lighter but strong materials in today’s world. Please Apple, do this as sales outside the US is still low for iPhones.

Buddy, the iPhone X is just 4 grams heavier compared to your Samsung galaxy s5 active.

So…. really? =)

Your S5 Active unsubsidized launch price was about $700 back in 2014. That's more than $800 in today's money. The iPhone 13 mini seems like the better deal. Lighter, and cheaper.

I don‘t really get the weight complaints. People demand bigger and bigger phones, so inevitably the weight is going to increase. But nobody forces you to buy the hefty Pro Max or the Galaxy Ultra phones.

If you want a light phone, there are more options now than ever before. The SE 2020 should be similar in weight to the original iPhone 6, the iPhone 13 Mini is a great compact flagship, the standard 13 is a good compromise between size and weight and if you don‘t care at all then go for the Pro Max.

The BlackBerry Z10 had a magnesium alloy frame which was nice. A poster above this had a chart showing that on the Pro devices, the stainless frame is the largest weight component, so reducing the weight of that component would be welcome.

I definitely would like a lighter phone as well. I like to use my phone one-handed and it gets a bit heavy for me quickly.

The iPhone 13 is just 4 grams heavier than your old S5 Active (174g vs 170g). Don't tell me that's a lot for you. The iPhone 13 mini is lighter (141g) and has larger screen than your S5 Active.

Well done, Pres. #45!

I have the 11 pro max and it’s too heavy especially with a case it drags my pants down and let’s the world see my underwear and I’m not a fat guy just a tad bit out of shape.

This is a issue for me as I hate the weight of these heavy phones but kept with it because I bought this phone for 1k in 2020 off swaps and planned to keep it for at least 4 years.

I may get the regular version and trade this into apple.I don’t want to spend money but these new phones are way too heavy, I was considering getting the 21 fe for the lighter plastic and calling it a day.

nah… the added weight on 13 pro would’ve gone to battery and possibly the cameras. which i’m perfectly fine with.
i like the heft to it and does feel more premium

I want a stainless steel and glass large phone with huge battery that weighs like a feather! Oh and I want it to be small in my pocket. Screw physics.

It’s not too expensive for most people. You have to remember that the 4S, back on release, was the same price as the Mini when inflation is taken into account. I buy my phones outright but there are payment plans for people who’d rather pay over a couple of years.

For me, it's more the weight distribution in the phones than the weight itself. The camera lenses in the 13 pro are so heavy that it throws off the balance of the phone. No matter what case I use, it always feels top heavy. In comparison, the 11 pro, which is not that much lighter, feels significantly lighter to me.

I just balanced my 13Pro + leather magsafe case on the round edge of an airpod case and measured the point to the center of gravity. It's more or less directly in the vertical center of the phone. Maybe previous phones were bottom heavy or maybe it's perception.

A quick solution is to make the case plastic, like the iPhone 3GS and original iPhone SE if I remember well. It would be lighter. But also much cheaper. I prefer metal, it's higher quality.

People like expensive premium devices. Apple is aware of this ever since they released the 5c which was a god damn travesty.

The original SE is aluminium btw and has the same build quality as the 5/5S.
