Decided to trade my iPad Air for the new iPad. Best Buy offered $150 for my Air for a limited (and probably last) time so I spent $215 for the iPad & Smart Cover.

I use it for work and general use and considered the 10.5" iPad Pro with the Smart Keyboard. But I had at least a few reasons that made me not get the 10.5" iPad Pro: lingering headphone jack and rear camera hump, negligible battery improvement despite the new display (and still short of the iPad), the price, and the fact they're partly advertising the iPad Pro with iOS 11, which is 3 months away.

Having this newer and faster iPad (over the Air) gives me another year or two to revisit the iPad Pro.

The 128 GB version will get delivered today and the 32GB will be collected, hopefully at the same time as well. This should give me a good 3-4 years before I think about upgrading again. Hopefully I'll be able to actually use up the 128GB storage.

Enjoy, it's a great tablet. I replaced my Air 2 with one last week (I want longevity in terms of iOS fluidity).

This thing screams on iOS 10.3.3 and I'll be keeping it on this until iOS 11 has a few .1 updates.

For a "budget" iPad the performance is fantastic. And the screen isn't an issue to me personally; I owned an iPad Air 1 previously too. I have no need for the Pro features or any wish to turn my tablet into a laptop, so this was an ideal upgrade for me.

And the battery is incredible. I put this on to charge at 17% and it had just shy of 10 hours use and over 60 hours standby.

I think the 2017 9.7 iPad is a safe bet. Especially if you're not sure if you wanted the iPad Pro, it's cheap enough to invest in the 9.7 iPad and reevaluate later on if you would appreciate the upgradable Pro features.
