the links to NetShare on iTunes in the previous posts WORK, CONFIRMED

Just installed NetShare, testing it out now; thanks for the link!

NetShare Back on iTunes

Just to update you all you can once again purchase this app through the iTunes application store.

I'm just wondering what AT&T is going to do about people using this app for Tethering. I bet they are going to charge.

My Windows phone (HTC Hermes aka 8525) came factory with an internet sharing application via bluetooth or USB. I used it regularly for over a year and never had troubles with AT&T.

PC Use

Can you tether the iphone to a PC or does this work with Mac Only?

Good question, this would be great to use on the train on the way to work, any thoughts about how to set it up with a PC? (Detailed instructions for those of us (me<---) would be very nice too.

This is not true "tethering" - you're running a SOCK5 proxy on your phone. As far as AT&T is concerned, all communications they see is between your iPhone and their Internet gateway. You will be fine.

Ok, I followed the instructions, I normally use the Camino browser after I set everything up per the instructions nothing would come up on Camino.

I switched to Safari and it did work to an extent, every once in awhile clicking on some websites, I get the following message:

Did I set it up wrong?? any help would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the tutorial. Once I'm home and I connect my laptop to my home network, though, the Computer-to-Computer network disappears from the list and I have to recreate it (I created a new location originally).

Is there a way to remember this network so I could just recreate it with one click when needed?

Thanks!

You didn't do anything wrong, it is still very buggy and with updates I suppose it will become more stable.

I was also having this problem, I don't think there is a way to save a network that the mac actually creates itself.

Hah! Got it to work!

This is AMAZING! This is a really game-changing thing if Apple continues to allow it. Works great, and for those who are wondering, YES 3G is very usable for tethering, I'm posting this right now and I've only got 1 bar on my iPhone over 3G and it's snappy enough for browsing for me on my macbook pro!

I apologize, I didn't feel like reading every post lol, but do I have to do this process every time I want to tether?

Ok, excellent. Thank You!!! Just wanted to make sure... it will definitely come in handy regardless..

And thanks for the tutorial.. it was very helpful!

STUPID QUESTION:
Would it be possible for an enterprising developer to write an app that tethers 3G to a laptop (i.e. an open source recreation of NetShare) and instead of putting it on the App Store, just distribute the source code as tarball for people to compile and load onto their iPhones (at least those with Apple dev accounts)?

Surely the mere distribution of Obj-C code is not illegal or breaking any EULA?

I think it is still against the iPhone developer EULA to distribute any source code. It's called a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement)

not working?

OK, I've followed the directions to the letter -- each screen on my MBP and iPhone match the ones in the instructions exactly. But it's still not working.

I've reset my iPhone, restarted my Mac, and tried setting up the network three times from scratch. Nothing.

Any suggestions? Maybe trying something besides the default IP they suggest?

This is the single most important app for me to have for my iPhone, and now that I've legitimately paid for it, it's incredibly frustrating to not have it work.

For those people who are using Firefox/Camino and saying that it doesn't work...read on:

These browsers have their own proxy settings within their preferences.

In firefox (3):
Go to Firefox >> Preferences >> advanced >> network
Click on 'settings'
Clck on 'manual proxy configuration'
Enter the ip address against SOCKS Host.

So who's going to be first to write the tutorial for setup on a Vista PC laptop?

And any way to get it also work with Firefox?

Thanks!
Brian

Unfortunately, I use a PC for freakin work..does anyone have any directions on using Netshare with a freakin windows PC?

thanks

For people using parallels

Parallels sets up its own Ethernet connections that in my case disturbed the PROXY thingy.

What I did is: I set up a dedicated NetShare LOCATION and in this location DELETED all of Parallels' ethernet connections. Only then did my NetShare work.

Cheers, dsq.

That's it!! Thanks hugely.

Before I try this... Does "tethering" require the iPhone to be connected to the computer via a USB cable? Or does it work wirelessly?
