Upgraded from 13PM to 15PM. Just got the phone, I'm really happy with how light it is.

I’m the same and noticed it straight away. The titanium is lovely as well, doesn’t feel cold, and the rounded corners feel much better.
Very happy with the upgrade.

The “anticlimactic” feeling you have is then a response of your own misguided expectations that run contrary to the current state of mobile phones, or at least the way Apple has been for the last few years minimum. The year to year upgrades are known and expected to be fairly minor except for those coming from a few generations ago.

Even the Fold line, excitement from the first one and then to the Fold 2, now they’re minor upgrades for now and everyone knows that
I know, I know. Like I said, it is what it is.

Well the Mulberry Linen case definitely exceeded my expectations!! Maybe I am not going to miss leather as much as I thought.

doesn't look like i can pick up an i15PM anywhere in philly, my pre-order hasn't shipped yet, i don't understand how there are stores fully stocked allegedly.

i am dedicated excited to upgrade, it's going to be great for two other members of my household too because i slide to the left 😂

I’m going in with “low” expectations. I just want usb c and better battery life. I made the mistake of downsizing to the regular pro last year. I’m planning on keeping this phone for a couple years at least, especially since they’re a lot more repairable now. It may not be exciting due to apple’s slow trickle with features, but this phone finally checks every single box I’ve been waiting on for years.

Reading your thoughts about need to have ”toys” I have a suggestion. Could this be the REAL reason tou are not excited. Most people do work and have a lifestyle that has no real meaning to them. That imposes depression and sense of meaningless. Then they want to substitute that sense of real meaning that they lost. Companies offer those false substitutes in form of products we don’t really need. Much of the economy is based on that loss of meaning. These products (like iPhone) are all false substitutes that cannot compensate for the lack of meaning. That is why you might feel empty and anticlimactic. I would suggest next year insteaf of dropping $1000 on copy-paste device with new name (iPhone 16) you try doing something else with your money and see if it excited you. And I don’t mean smartphones, tech or any other substitutes. Best of luck!

I get a new phone every third year. Always feels like a pretty big improvement that way. I think generally there are fewer and fewer improvements to make.

Yeah, I know. I am not bashing here, just more stating the obvious. I miss the days of feeling like I just scored something everyone wants and it is hard to get. I miss what that phone offered over my last one as well.

No FOMO here, I collect toys and want to have the latest, not returning. It's what I do. No returns.
Oh those days are gone! Best Buy , Walmart, target, carrier stores , Costco… take ya pick, a million ways to score a phone, plus incremental upgrades.

I disagree. I usually sell my old phones to friends or family for trade in value - it pays off the balance and I upgrade.

This year, I actually sold my phone last week so for the past 7 days I’ve been using a 2020 iPhone SE. Not only does it remind me how much I love that form factor, which is a story in itself, but it makes going back to the PM feel newer. If you’re only ever going from the latest to the latest, you’ll never feel the difference. That’s on you, not apple.

Technology can only advance so far and apple certainly won’t be screwing over their own business model when the industry standard is to release marginal upgrades on a yearly basis.

I considered using my old SE2020 because I just got my granddaughter a 2022SE (ATT had it for $2/month, and she is finally get an actual phone number, so I figured what the heck), and now hers is sitting here. While I was setting the new one up, I was also thinking how much I loved that little phone, although I absolutely cannot handle typing/texting, etc. on that size phone anymore.

Anyway, I mainly want to get my 14 pro sold before the value drops much more, but I'm going on a trip and really want to be sure I have the better camera, so I'm taking my 14 pro, and just gonna keep hoping my 15 pro max is here when I get back!

My suggestion would be to get the vision pro. Reactions from other people if wearing outside
are guaranteed. And it’s definitely a new toy.

I’ve never understood the yearly upgrade craze, much less those that do it and are surprised the phones aren’t much different. Just leave it two or three years and it’ll be a bigger improvement. Most people out there aren’t upgrading yearly and for a variety of good reasons.

Sounds like what you really want is the dopamine hit from knowing you’ve got something other people can’t get. It seems like you have plenty of disposable income, so I suggest switching focus to items that are more rare and hard to get than mass produced cell phones that launch worldwide.

Did the dance like I do every year. The phone itself is running out of wow factor life changing upgrades. I don't think I have ever been less excited to get the latest and greatest. It pretty much is a 14 PM with a new case and new customizable side button. […]
It is a mature product. I’m not sure how much “wow” folks can really expect from yearly upgrades at this point unless there is a specific advance that is of particular interest to them. And the previous models aren’t really lacking, anymore, in any critical areas like processing power.

There comes a point where it doesn’t make sense to upgrade every year anymore if it just doesn’t feel worthwhile to you. Just as someone upgrading their computer every cycle should not really expect to be “wowed” with each incremental upgrade unless it is associated with a particularly prominent advance (e.g. Intel processor to M1).

I upgrade each year and still enjoy it. But each year the iPhone seems to gets more refined and I always wonder if this is the iPhone I’ll hang onto for more than a year. Only time will tell.

But besides the actual hardware which of course has a better camera, battery, yadayadayada - the entire experience is not the same. Pre-pre order was a breeze. Pre order was a breeze and pickup today when they opened at 8 was just like any other day in the apple store. There was a line for people buying in real time which used to be unheard of or the store had like 10 phones a day to sell a la cart. Nope, they had plenty of stock. I remember getting up at 3AM EST just to pre-order hoping I could do it quick enough to get a launch day pick up or delivery. Made you feel like you cracked ticketmaster for face value Swift tickets. Now the entire process is so uneventful and easy.

Got my new Black 15 PM and there is nothing about it that makes me feel like I just got a new phone.

Yea, came form a 13 Pro Max and not feeling a big jump with the 15 Pro Max. Maybe feels a tiny bit lighter, but not like the reviews said. I suppose it is good for Dynamic Island and ProRes, but otherwise not a big leap.

Honestly, there is no impactful differences between the 15 PM and the 11 PM, even if I waited 4 years.. But you missed my point, there is no demand anymore, that is why it is uneventful and anticlimactic. All driven by the lackluster improvements in technology. It is what it is.
Don’t even. Seriously.
Different screen size, satellite connectivity, speed, cameras are WAY better, battery is WAY improved. Entirely new material now. I mean don’t be a joke. I would never upgrade every year, but I’m coming from an iPhone 11 Pro and this is going to be an entirely new device.
