Then stop upgrading every year. There's no need if you don't care anymore. Just wait until you actually need to.

I used to get an iPhone every two years then when I got a 7 Plus that phone was so good I just stuck with it up until support ended and I had to get a new phone, which is when I got my 13 Pro. Smartphones have stagnated so much that you really can just stick with one for four to five years now then get a new one.

I almost ordered a 15 Pro because god...I wanted USB-C for so long, and that A17 Pro is looking juicy. But really...I don't need it. I'd have to pay $500 for a 15 Pro with a trade in of my 13 Pro. Is what the 15 Pro offers over my 13 Pro worth spending $500? Not really. Battery life is the same, screen is the same, dunno about chip performance but given what I do on my phone anyhow I don't need that A17 Pro's performance, and camera isn't far off my 13 Pro. So I'm good for another year or two lol.

Yeah, I know. I am not bashing here, just more stating the obvious. I miss the days of feeling like I just scored something everyone wants and it is hard to get. I miss what that phone offered over my last one as well.

No FOMO here, I collect toys and want to have the latest, not returning. It's what I do. No returns.
Ah, so it’s more a humble brag.

Honestly, there is no impactful differences between the 15 PM and the 11 PM, even if I waited 4 years.. But you missed my point, there is no demand anymore, that is why it is uneventful and anticlimactic. All driven by the lackluster improvements in technology. It is what it is.
I just want to have this comment responded to when I upgrade from 11PM to 15PM in November. My 11PM is definitely getting long in the tooth and starting to feel it's age. I think 4 generations of processor, camera, FID, RAM, screen, maybe USB-C (we'll see), will feel like a genuine upgrade, just like the 8+ to 11PM did. Year over year, yeah you're not going to notice much at all. 3-4 years, though....

I went from a 13PM to a 15PM for several reasons - and it is the first time I have done launch day. Feels like a good upgrade to me. Primarily I’m a hoarder and needed more memory (travel a lot so download music and movies) but the 15 PM feels like a smaller phone even if it isn’t really and there is enough there to make it feel like an upgrade. I’m pleased I did and no buyers remorse whatsoever - but I will be hanging on to it for 2 or most likely 3 years anyway.

Did the dance like I do every year. The phone itself is running out of wow factor life changing upgrades. I don't think I have ever been less excited to get the latest and greatest. It pretty much is a 14 PM with a new case and new customizable side button.

But besides the actual hardware which of course has a better camera, battery, yadayadayada - the entire experience is not the same. Pre-pre order was a breeze. Pre order was a breeze and pickup today when they opened at 8 was just like any other day in the apple store. There was a line for people buying in real time which used to be unheard of or the store had like 10 phones a day to sell a la cart. Nope, they had plenty of stock. I remember getting up at 3AM EST just to pre-order hoping I could do it quick enough to get a launch day pick up or delivery. Made you feel like you cracked ticketmaster for face value Swift tickets. Now the entire process is so uneventful and easy.

Got my new Black 15 PM and there is nothing about it that makes me feel like I just got a new phone.

EDIT: Well the Mulberry Linen case definitely exceeded my expectations!! Maybe I am not going to miss leather as much as I thought.
I want to say thank you!! 🙏 I was starting to lose my nerve and felt I just might get the new max anyway. Nope, you knocked me right back to reality again and I’m sticking with my 14 max for a while more. I think.

I knew these kinds of posts where coming. I know it's kinda irony that I am saying this since I have a 14 pro max and upgrading to the 15 pro max, but this is rare for me. I know the phone isn't wouldn't be drastically different from what I have but the small improvements make it exciting for me.

If you want upgrades to be more impactful, then stop upgrading yearly and wait 2-3 years before getting a new phone 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Relatively speaking, yes I do. But with cars it is more like a 3-4 year life cycle. For example, new 5 series hits the dealer. I get it. 3-4 years later, they refresh it (LCI), I trade up. 3-4 years later the new style is out.

So yes, I do.
So no, you don’t.

Cars have new models every single year with minor updates, just like iPhones. And redesigns only come ever few years, just like iPhones.

Upgraded from 13PM to 15PM. Just got the phone, I'm really happy with how light it is.
Also went from 13 PM to 15 PM. Skipped last year due to minimal changes and being in between jobs anyway. I think the always-on screen is a good reason to upgrade (maybe not by itself, but combined with everything else). I’ll save me from sound the unlock dance so much.
