I work in a phone store and I usually sell my current iPhone for around ($900) and get the new one for $1100 or $1200 so a $300 investment for something I'm going to use every single day is not bad imo that's less than $1 a day....you don't need to upgrade every year if you're actually shelling the whole $1000+ because the changes aren't too significant.
This is how I see it.

So no, you don’t.

Cars have new models every single year with minor updates, just like iPhones. And redesigns only come ever few years, just like iPhones.

No they don’t. Maybe very minor. You don’t know what you’re talking about. You don’t want to have a car discussion with me. Does BMW say the “all new” 550 every year like apple does? Wrong buddy.

I considered using my old SE2020 because I just got my granddaughter a 2022SE (ATT had it for $2/month, and she is finally get an actual phone number, so I figured what the heck), and now hers is sitting here. While I was setting the new one up, I was also thinking how much I loved that little phone, although I absolutely cannot handle typing/texting, etc. on that size phone anymore.

Anyway, I mainly want to get my 14 pro sold before the value drops much more, but I'm going on a trip and really want to be sure I have the better camera, so I'm taking my 14 pro, and just gonna keep hoping my 15 pro max is here when I get back!
They’re wonderful devices. The size really encourages you to use it as and when, and not just for the sake of it. I have a second line which I pay a couple of £’s a month on that I would usually dual Sim, but I think I’ll keep it in the SE and use it whilst I’m doing something that could put a phone in harms way (when I’m not at a desk or playing sports etc.).

I love that it takes iOS 17 as well, so I’m not majorly missing out on the feature set and can at least still control my HomeKit odds and ends.

I do love the new phone though. I was fortunate enough to get a collection window at my local Apple Store.

Did the dance like I do every year. The phone itself is running out of wow factor life changing upgrades. I don't think I have ever been less excited to get the latest and greatest. It pretty much is a 14 PM with a new case and new customizable side button.

But besides the actual hardware which of course has a better camera, battery, yadayadayada - the entire experience is not the same. Pre-pre order was a breeze. Pre order was a breeze and pickup today when they opened at 8 was just like any other day in the apple store. There was a line for people buying in real time which used to be unheard of or the store had like 10 phones a day to sell a la cart. Nope, they had plenty of stock. I remember getting up at 3AM EST just to pre-order hoping I could do it quick enough to get a launch day pick up or delivery. Made you feel like you cracked ticketmaster for face value Swift tickets. Now the entire process is so uneventful and easy.

Got my new Black 15 PM and there is nothing about it that makes me feel like I just got a new phone.

EDIT: Well the Mulberry Linen case definitely exceeded my expectations!! Maybe I am not going to miss leather as much as I thought.
I mean, this was obvious since it was announced. It's 20 grams lighter, has a better camera, chip, USB-C, and an action button. That's about it. Not worth an upgrade from a 14 PM IMO.

At some point people need to understand that phones are at a point right now where not much new can be done. The design and shape have all been done. Sure the folding phone and iPhone will be there eventually but not until it’s perfected…camera improvements and performance improvements are the majority now. And even those the average user probably won’t notice much.

As far as the pre order process…everyone always complained it shouldn’t be difficult and it should be easy and now that it is people are complaining that it’s easy? 😂

Everyone here has got to up their game. For instance, in the Tesla Motor Club, we got whole bunch of members upgrading their Teslas almost every year.

Bunch of people got cute and decided to upgrade their Model Y, 3, or older X to a brand new $80K Model X because of the $7,500 EV tax credit.

I think this feeling will be with us for a while.

Apart from the cool little “quality of life” updates that Apple make, such as speed, cameras and this year the action button, tech is at somewhat of a standstill.

Sure, we have the foldable gimmick at the moment, but it’s just repackaging the tech we have into another form factor.

We have seen in our time the jumps such as the 3GS > 4 and 7/ 7 Plus > X. Since the iPhone X released, there has been no major “wow” moment. Since the iPhone X, we’ve had the perfect glass/ metal device. Where do we go from here? I believe we will be massively limited to incremental upgrades in the iPhone and similar devices for a while now.

The foldables have been a breathe of fresh air. I still got my iPhone 13 pro and 13 mini but the 14 and 15 series aren't much of an upgrade besides the camera. Phone design has peaked for now and agree that iPhones will only be incremental updates for now. The tech is mature now. I'll keep my 13 series phones and enjoy my Flip 5.

Oh they sure are a breath of fresh air, couldn’t agree more. The smartphone form factor has become very stale in the last 4-5 years for sure.

I just think the tech for a foldable isn’t really there yet and it’s very much a beta product. I think for companies to have gone to such lengths to make the most durable glass they can over years to then go full circle back to straight plastic on a screen is silly. If your device had to come with a warning of “avoid contact with fingernails” it’s not ready for market in my opinion.

Agree with your point of the tech being matured. It is, to the point of stagnation. We will one day see another “iPhone X” wow announcement but it will a long way off right now.

Just because Apple says it’s “all new” every year, doesn’t mean it is. Phones have plateaued for years. There is absolutely no reason to upgrade every year. I’m typing this from a 15 Pro, while still deciding if I should return it and keep my 13 Pro because the changes are so minor.

The only thing that make me realize it's different are the faster USB transfer speeds. I transfer a lot of files and it goes faster now. Wifi 6E is nice too. But otherewise...eh.

I bought the new one only because I had promised my mom my iPhone 14 PM. lol.
The only improvement I'm looking for is the 5x zoom.

Same. I originally was not going to upgrade but my mom kept talking about a new phone since she has my old Xr. She kept mentioning if I get a new iPhone that she would like mine. So I went ahead and just got the 15PM just so I can give her the 14.

Other than the lighter feeling, it feels exactly like an…iphone. No surprise obviously. It just feels nice to have a fresh battery and using a newer phone. Didn’t have any other expectations.

Return it.

I'll take you up on a car discussion. Bring it.
I'm not sure what you want me to "bring". Apple releases and highly promotes a brand new phone every year with a different model number. You're seriously going to say that when BMW, Ford, etc. changes from USB-A ports to USB-C ports within a model lifecycle that this is the same thing?

C'mon buddy, you can't be a car guy.

You seem to think you know a lot about cars so I invite you to have a discussion about them with me. Why can't I be a car guy?

I apologize, I had you confused with someone who made a snarky remark.

Not here though. That’s for my car forums.
