Doesn't seem like a worthwhile upgrade from the 6th generation iPad at all. The same A10 is the biggest letdown, if it were an A11 it would at least be something. That half inch of screen isn't worth it. I didn't expect the unit to be physically bigger than the 6th gen either. Bezels could've been slimmer if they stuck to the same size.

Do we know if it comes with 2GB of RAM?
Dunno about RAM yet.

Bluetooth 4.2
8-megapixel rear
1.2-megapixel front
32.4 Whr battery as before

Apple really called this one in.
Wow. Not even Bluetooth 5.

I guess all they wanted is Smart Keyboard compatibility. The good news is the keyboard is great. On my 10.5" iPad Pro, I found the Smart Keyboard was transformative for the way I use the iPad.

It's a full sized keyboard with 18 mm key spacing. The ergonomics experts say 18-19 mm is the best for most people. It's also 18 mm on the 11" Pro and 19 mm on the 12.9" Pros and all the Macs.

Not having to deal with Bluetooth hassles and weight of the extra battery for Bluetooth is great, and it's also great not having half the screen covered by the virtual keyboard. Plus of course having actual tactile keys means touch typing is way more accurate.

The bad news is that at this size, MS Office is no longer free.

Sure, the Smart Keyboard looks kinda nice, but at $159 that's quite the accessory at almost half the price of the iPad itself!

Maybe... maybe it has 3 GB of RAM, but even if it does, this is barely an upgrade over the 18 month old model it replaces.
50% more RAM isn't "barely an upgrade". It's as much as the iPad Air 3 in fact, and is sufficient for this class of machine IMO.

I'm expecting 3 GB. However, if it doesn't get 3 GB, that would be shameful for 2019.

Wondering if there's enough here to justify upgrading from 6th gen. Other than slightly larger display, seems probably not to me.
Keyboard is great, as mentioned. Not sure if that's worth it for you though.

Wow. Still on the iPad 2! That's perseverance. Are you on iOS 9? Cuz iOS 9 is painfully slow on the iPad 2..

If I was trying to do a lot with it, I am sure it would be painful. However, since day 1 I have used it as a media consumption device (Kindle, Apple Remote). It still works just fine for that - it was not a replacement for a laptop (and no iPad is a replacement for a laptop, in my opinion).

I am getting this new one for Xmas because I am running out of hd space - If I had gotten the 128Gb version, I would not replace it - it still works just fine.

Even my 4 year old was complaining our iPad 2 was too slow even just to watch YouTube. The UI is just so slow. So I gave it to our housekeeper, and my wife gave our son her old iPad Air 2.

This iPad 10.2" will be amazing for you. I'd also encourage you to check out the keyboard. It's awesome. While it doesn't make the iPad a laptop replacement, I now use my iPad about 90% of the time, and my MacBook 10% of the time. The Smart Keyboard makes a big difference.

No, that is still not a meaningful upgrade over an 18 month old device when it still has the same processor which is now 3 years old.

Not a bad entry level device overall, but I’m looking at it as an upgrade to the 6th gen.

Had put off buying a 6th Gen iPad in favor of a 7th Gen but after seeing the keynote i may go for the 6th Gen instead unless there is something major over the 6th Gen that i'm unaware of? (upgrading from an Mini 4)

Definitely get the 7th gen. Bigger screen and Smart Connector.

Also, it's possible the 7th gen may get more RAM.

This will be a *fantastic* upgrade for my dad come Christmas time.

This is basically 1st gen iPad Pro features(keyboard/Apple Pencil) at $329. I have no idea what you people are complaining about at this price point.

Edit: the iPad Pro had an A9X, now I REALLY don’t know what you guys are complaining about. That’s less than half the price of an absolute monster from just 4 years ago. Remember this is the “basic” affordable iPad here. For that market segment this is a huge upgrade.

It's actually better than 1st gen iPad Pro is that the keyboard is full size. The 9.7" iPad Pro not only was crippled with having just 2 GB RAM, it was also crippled by having a too small keyboard.

Yeah, quad speakers in the Pro 9.7" is better. Good point.
And the logitech create 9.7 is cheaper and better than apple 10.5 keyboard (I have both, and also the 9.7 apple one). And the create 9.7 is better IMO than either the slim combo 10.5 or the slim folio 11.
9.7 pro is lighter, thinner, with laminated screen (and better camera, if anyone cares...)
If the RAM is still 2GB for the 10.2 I would pick a 9.7 pro over it...

Logitech for 9.7" Pro keyspacing is too small.
