sigh this really scares me. im about to get 16 inch for music production in ableton. is this really a widespread issue?
It's been incredible for production for me, totally changed the game really. This is a weird glitch but could be something to do with the project or Ableton (I just updated to whatever the latest is a couple of days ago). It's the best computer you can buy for production, I'd just get it

Not sure if everyone else in on Zoom all day like me, but I had a similar issue on my 14" MacBook Pro with the speakers popping occasionally in every app. I found that quitting out of Zoom solved the issue (this could also be because I use both Zoom and Teams). Hopefully this helps someone else with the same problem.

16" Macbook Pro M1 Max speakers popping in every App. I adjusted the Audio MIDI output to 44,100 Hz but that hasn't anything to fix the problem. I mostly listen with my airpods and don't hear/get any popping. I'm hoping it's a software issue and not a hardware problem.

I also made this adjustment and it didn't work. Listening to music is unbearable with this Macbook.

Sadly, I too am experiencing this same issue and starting looking on forums because my 14" M1 MacBook Pro is also exhibiting the same crackling issue. Perhaps this has something to do with the new speakers being of a much higher overall quality?

How ironic. Apple will likely deny the issue even exists.

Apple denied the faulty battery issue on my iPhone like 6 years ago or something and blamed it on "old text messages" then 2 years later they admit its faulty and sent out the free replacement for them. AFTER everyone upgraded their damn phones to a new one.

With Steve Jobs you used to walk into a store, tell them what the issue was and get a replacement on the spot.

Anyone here have the newly released betas on their computer and can see whether this somehow blessedly got fixed?

I got this on headphones (jack, AirPods Pro) as well as built in speakers on a 14 inch I have since returned, issue appeared mostly after trying out parallels I think.

I suppose a question to be answered is, who is NOT experiencing the issue with the 2021 16" MacBook Pro or Max?

Is it only affecting certain units/users? Is the problem only affecting internal speakers? i.e. if you use a external audio device does the problem clear up?

About to hit the button on a max, mainly for music production & i don't really want to get into a bunfight with Apple about popping speakers lol.

Did not have this on a MacBook Pro 14-inch during the first couple of months usage. It started, I think, with an update to a newer macOS version and is getting worth with every next update. At least it feels like it.

I can reproduce this when wildling adjusting sliders in Lightroom CC when the M1 Pro chip is being hammered and you have audio playing at the same time in browsers or Music app. This with the internal speakers in use. Really bothering and disappointing experience. Still hoping that a future macOS update will attempt to fix this...

Interesting— while I’m still one of those people that would not exactly characterize this issue as “popping” (it’s more like the sound of something vibrating that is loose, and only on the left speaker) — I AM a person who, in the timeframe where I experienced the issue, may have used both Teams and Zoom.

However, it is suspect that the issue carried over into the Mac restart sound, which one would think would be not affected by software incompatibilities.

I would caution readers: I think there are multiple problems readers are reporting here.

Still following this thread because I’m looking to get the new MacBooks. I’m hoping it’s a small minority of people still that have it. I have 20 friends with 14/16 inch. 8 of them do professional audio production. None of the 20 have the issue. I had it on my M1 Mac mini when I would pause a project. Cpu would spike to 140% and it would pop for a sec. I switched all my plugin from AU to VST and it went away. Also no notes or reviewers on YouTube ever mentioning this issue. Hoping I’ll be lucky like most people.

It seems to me like they're a few issues that may be at play here, ranging from max CPU load to software issues (teams, zoom etc being possible culprits). What I haven't heard though - is many users say they DON'T experience it at all. Which is surprising and a little concerning!

I had this issue on my Mac Mini M1 for months. Music producer. Everytime i would pause the project after it plays (smoothly with no pops), it would pop when i stop the playback. at that moment the CPU meter in Ableton went up to 140% for a second. when i swapped out all my plugins in the project from AU format to VST, the CPU never spiked and no pop when pausing. maybe it has to do with audio playback when CPU is close to 100% which i usually dont reach even close to even on a mac mini, unless a bug that makes CPU spike like i had

I've also had mine pop on a startup/shutdown screen, but not at first, it seemed to happen after using parallels and running some benchmark tests more than before, super weird.

Idk, I was like you and being hopeful, but I didn't do much special on mine besides art and a benchmark test once or twice before I finally returned it and it happened and I was surprised to get it. I really don't get it.

Same problem here - MBP 16 2021 with M1 Pro. Popping sound more than once within two minutes or so. No matter how silent or loud music is. I also tried to change frequency via Audio MIDI Setup but it didn't help.

I hope Apple will fix this issue as soon as possible!

Cracking in my MacBook Pro 2021 is (almost) gone after updating today to 12.4 (Beta). While listening to a song on Spotify for 2 minutes, I counted 12 cracks. After updating to 12.4 Beta, just one minor crack. It's definitively a software issue. I always had the same problem with Apple Music and Spotify.
