10hrs just isn’t enough for a portable device these days. People can take their MacBooks and iPhones on 2+ day trips without charging as long as they’re using them leisurely. Then when you charge at home you use some form of MagSafe on those devices as well. Sounds 1st world but once you’re used to not plugging things in the moment you do its an inconvenience.

I would love a floating iPad stand with MagSafe but with the new thinness and size something would no doubt bend or break. Apple went with old school Jony Ive route on design and we know how that turned out…people are gonna destroy these new iPads.

Very disappointed with the battery life on the iPad. Happy they didn’t put the Dynamic Island on the iPad.

Agreed, I thought that at this point with all the improvements Apple Silicon brought to the Mac, iPads would have more impressive battery life than this...but then again, I know nothing of chip engineering nor have ever owned an iPad haha
For iPad it's form before function. For battery life, they want to make sure you buy a Macbook Pro. This is for working, this is for fun

I wanted A thinner iPad. If you are not able to find a charger after 10 hours of use…
The fact that you think 10 hours is realistic tells me you don't know what you're talking about. Hulu at 50% screen brightness will take you from 100% to 50% in two hours. Playing a resource-intensive game will kill your battery even faster.

With the M4's performance increase, could you run it in low power mode and get more battery life, yet the same performance as the M1?

Strange, on the US Apple website I see in the "What's in the box" section that a charger is included. On the Dutch Apple website it's just the iPad and a USB-C cable. Only the 10th gen iPad still comes with a charger (or maybe the mini as well). Could it be a EU thing?
Oh ok, that's sad.
Mexican site includes it.

For the same price as the 13" IPP you can have either a 13" MBA with 16GB RAM or a base 15" MBA, which has a physical keyboard and trackpad built in that runs a desktop level OS, and has double the battery life. If you aren't using the Pencil functionality in a professional manner I cannot see the value proposition in the Pros, especially what you factor in the cost of the nearly required accessories necessary to get the full experience out of the iPad.
But you can’t place it right near your face and watch Netflix:(

(Well technically you can. I sometimes do this with my MBA hehe. Albeit iPad is more appropriate for this)

I suspect the screen is likely to consume less than the previous for most people (subject to whats actually being displayed) but the M4 could really drain the battery. It really depends on how its being used.

Apple must consider the up to 10 hours sufficient for most people. It’s been like this since the first gen ipad… and again your milage may vary depending on what you do.
Even those users who consider the current 10 hours to be okay would’ve appreciated a bump up in battery life. Maybe 14-15 hours could be the new Apple “standard” or something.

I’m not sure I’ll ever need it to be lighter. The previous model was already light enough - a lot heavier than the Macbook Air but plenty light for portability. Why can’t we just have an iPad more powerful than most desktops already? iOS/iPadOS and MacOS need to be perfectly blended with VisionOS to create one seamless operating system.
You forgot watchOS. watchOS should have the full Finder experience, I'm tired of that screen of icons and no convenient way to ssh.

That's just sad.
I mean, it's enough but still. M4 new design, new hardware and still no upgrade in battery life.
To add the function keys row to the keyboard, they had to make the iPad Pro lighter and thinner. That's why there was no increase in battery life.

I constantly have to remember to check and top off my iPad Pro. My MacBook Air just goes and goes and goes. That is a massive difference in the user experience.
Totally agree, but I was under the impression that iPads generally had hit that "just goes and goes" level of battery life some time ago. In any case, 10 hours (assuming that's a real-world figure) is more or less what I've come to reliably expect from my M1 MacBook Air. Maybe I'm missing something here?

I don't spend 18 hours on my MBA either, but Apple still worked to get it to provide that much use time. I appreciate devices that can last several days between needing a charge
I consider any battery life in excess of what I can personally handle in a day to be a "nice to have". If I can work more or less all day and then charge it while I myself am sleeping, that seems like it's past the level where the battery is holding me back in any way. Maybe others think differently, but I personally wouldn't want a larger battery that adds more weight, after a certain point.

they specifically claimed it was as strong as the previous model... I'm sure people will be lining up to put it to that test.

10 hours when new, less at it depletes from day 1, and when it needs replacing after Apple deems it obsolete, good luck doing it yourself.

Honestly, 10 hours is plenty. I would have preferred a faster chip and better thermals than just what the new iPad Pro offers. Yeah, I obviously don’t have the new iPad yet, but the previous iPad Pro 13” model is insanely slow or at least incapable of multitasking. M3 is great for the average person who doesn’t need much productivity/processing power, but for those who are trying to run a business, the M chips are really terrible. I would prefer a whole separate thicker iPad Pro model with the previous version’s thickness to boost battery, as I really have no need for more than 10-24 hours of battery anyway. The most I currently use is 4-7 hours during rare power outages or heavy tasking on the go, and a separate portable battery bank is easy to work with.
What are you people doing that requires 10 hours or more of battery life on a regular basis???

How can this Be?

HOW CAN THIS BEE!!!!!!!… it’s 2024 for gods sake, chips are more efficient with multiple efficiency cores. Screens are too. WHY can’t they just make this stuff last a solid full day of work.
