anyone else besides me ordered the new 8 core Mac Pro?
I ordered mine on march 4th and got a supposedly delivery date of 4/11.
they gave me free overnight shipping so i assume they are made in the good ole USA

I placed the order on 3/3, the ETA is between 3/12 and 3/16.

Mine is octo w 2.26 ghz.

I originally orderered with 12 Gb of memory, but the ETA was 3/27!

I changed the order on 3/4 to stock 6 Gb, and that removed the delay.

I ordered 16 Gb ram from macsales.com for $289 plus shipping, saved over $100 from Apple's pricing. Let's see what macsales.com will offer as a rebate on the old memory.

omg... should I have got the 2.93 instead of the 2.66..?!?!?!?!

I remember you were panicking about the 8 core mac pro andi think you ordered just a month or two ago the previous gen mac pro.

What did you end up doing?? Did you sell the mac pro? And I assume you ordered the 2.66ghz nehalem?

think he got the 3.2GHz harpertown, and returned it. then ordered the 2.66 8-core nehalem.

^ This.

By the way, sorry for being off topic. but how do I go about selling my nearly new ram back to OMW? Do you ship it first? or do you order new ram and then send them a return ship with the old ram?

OWC... go to otherworldcomputing.com and on the buy RAM page, there's a link to their RAM buyback program... you get $5 each for apple 1gb sticks and $20 each for apple 2gb sticks.

if it doesn't go right to the memory rebate part, :apple: + F "Memory From Mac Pro"

and as for going 2.93, it's 10% faster but i think you made a good choice by not spending an extra thousand dollars right now.

i know you've said in the past that productivity is your primary concern and that convenience is worth a premium to you, but even though there's a slightly more powerful machine out there, my opinion is that the 2.66 is not substantially less capable than the 2.93. the machine you've ordered will be more than solid enough to hold you over to the next performance bump.

8 core here ordered on the 5th, delivery shows Mar 13 - Mar 19. The machine I had custom built showed 2-3 weeks shipping so I went with a standard configuration.

i'm kind of ticked... i ordered immediately after they became available Tuesday morning and didn't realize that the RAM would hold it up that much. i feel like i should call the dev store monday morning and get it changed to 6gb. i had been hoping to sit on 8gb (4x2gb) until i could find 4 reasonably priced 4gb sticks for a total of 24gb.

getting the new machine that soon, even with the RAM hassle, would make for an excellent spring break indeed-- i've been waiting for the new machine to master a couple dvd's, catch up on some graphic design work that i've been putting off, and finish mixing a film for a friend. no better way to break it in.

Funny i did the same thing - saw that it pushed the date out so far and backed off - adding ram should not take that long to do. im gonna order ram from either OWC - http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory - or - transintl - http://www.transintl.com/store/category.cfm?Category=2765&RequestTimeOut=500 - far as
macsales rebate is $5 for 1gb and $20 for 2gb

Mine is on or before 13th. Looks like I might be lucky!

edit - oh and I should have said, it's shipped

Between March 13–19. After much agonizing, I ordered the base octo this morning with 6 gb of ram, which shortened the delivery time by 2-3 weeks. I'm selling the ram to Macsales.com (I bought 12 gb from them).

2.26 x 2
6 gb ram
ATI Radeon 4870
