The whole thing is just stupid. Instead of actually getting into the root of the problem = real life gun control they worty about some Emoji. instead of focusing on the racial issues people fight over the blacklivematters hashtag smh and by "they" i mean all those people on social media that get offended by anything just because without constributing anything of value themselves

I like the water gun. It is an appropriate substitute that fits better with the more cheerful tone of the other emojis. I do not think that I have ever used it and even if, I would use it symbolically. The reasons some others here have given are actually worrying.

I do not like the style change though. I think that the glossy emojis are very iconic for emojis and I feel that this is just another change for change’s sake that Apple is going through. The new ones look much more three-dimensional with the strong shadows, whereas the old ones had a flatter surface. Apple is tweaking to much, in my opinion. I am already on the fence regarding iOS 10.

I don't like them as of now, but I am sure they will grow on me. I love emojis.

That being said, they changed my favourite emoji and looks so different now :( I even have a plushie of it hah.

Not my pic.

I actually have a contact in my phone with that emoji. I changed it to the similar looking one with round eyes.

Just my two cents here:
I think the reason that some people find the gun emoji thing so stupid is because it is an attempt by Apple or the Intergalactic Federation of Emoji Design (IFED) to rid the emoji using world of "violence." Guns are a hot button issue so they remove them to make people feels better. I totally understand that. If I were the person who invented emojis I don't think I would have included a gun, but that's mainly because I thought they were for smiley faces and the like. But I also wouldn't have included a bomb, or a cigarette. I bet almost everyone on this website knows someone who has been affected by cancer but maybe only a handful know someone who was affected by gun violence. So shouldn't the cigarette emoji be an even more important one to address? Or is it ok because our society has become complacent about giving itself cancer? I could probably shorten up this post to one sentence: It's crazy how worked up people get, both on Apple/IFED's side and the other, about the most trivial things.

I love they new emojies ! have more shadows and lighting looks more like 3D rather than 2D.
I Dont mind water gun instead of revolver its more positive and colorful and never used revolver anyway... Thumbs up

Why can't apple provide options for the gun icon like they do with skin color. Make the water gun default and let the consumer choose if they want to change it. Simple solution.

I like them other then the squirt gun thing... I don't appreciate Apple Pushing their political correctness on me

Here's an article on Business Insider that pretty much sums up everything I think is wrong with the new emojis, and specially the Playskool gun.

Gotta love "business" "insider". "Apple's plan to change pistol emoji will sow confusion, retroactively alter meaning". Truly what businesses worried about about and not clickbait garbage designed to attract the usual crybabies

"And more worryingly, it will retroactively change the meaning of countless historic messages and texts — setting a dangerous precedent with unpredictable results.". Absolutely laughable

All those emoji in the Emancipation Proclamation and Pearl Harbor attack speeches will completely take on a new meaning changing what those speeches were about!

How about the ability to design my own emoji face and apply my face on all the sets, including sexual preference and skin color and all that.... Its where we are headed right? That or going back to the yellow neutral faces..

I like the new style. The matte gradients are more current. Those glassy emojis have been looking outdated. Thank god they didn't make flat emojis though, even though I like flat interfaces.

I would have loved emojis similar to the ones Twitter has.

Oh great now I get to look at the terrifying 3D emojis that teachers used, that always creeped out very kid in elementary school. Great.....

I watched Terminator last night. It was ruined because of iOS 10 beta 4 emojis. Arnold was holding water guns instead of real guns. :(

No doubt. I'm offended the squirt gun emoji only comes in green. I want red and blue squirt gun emoji too.
