Why isn't there something about QuickTime 7.3.1 posted on the homepage instead of this useless crap? It's a stupid ad, get over it!

It's the holidays I'm sure even Bill Gates finds this one cute and funny. Reminds me of the old school Santa Claus is Coming to Town yearly TV show of the claymations.

BTW in regards to the statement you made, "It takes one to know one".:p

I love Apple products, always have, always will…but this makes me cringe so badly.

The overdone "I'm an PC…I'm a Mac" campaign is now old and *****. With all the money Apple have at their marketing disposal, the best they can offer is two people repeatedly spurting the same crap over and over, year-in year-out…when are we going to see something new?

But see, it's working especially on you. The job of an ad agency is to get people to remember about the ad. Even if you can't remember each ad from Apple everybody knows of the two guys, Mac and PC. That's the whole idea. I can barely remember any other ad I see on TV because most companies change their ads too often and it's not effective.

I like it, but again, it says nothing about the mac at all...except that he looks cooler than the PC!

I get your point, but just because an ad gets in your head doesn't mean you buy the product. The method Apple are using to entice people to switch from PC's to Mac's is overtly arrogant and smarmy.

How about showing off some of the amazing things OSX does? How about shouting about the security and ease of use? How about explaining you can use your Mac as a PC? These are all reasons why many people I know have switched to a Mac.

Who wants to be likened to that geek faced "PC guy"? Let's not forget you are talking about 90% of the worlds computer users – they can't all look like that gimp!

Just my opinion

True.

But studies have show that brand awareness is the best way to use TV spot ads.

Showing "how cool" a Mac is over a PC just doesn't work for TV spot ads. For higher ticket, high involvement items like a personal computer, use the ads to raise awareness and use the brochures, print ads and in-store displays to show how cool they are.

I really like it, very cute. But last year's is even better... it's really artistic and beautiful.

What you're referring to isn't exactly last years version of this get a mac ad. Last year Apple posted two holiday themed get a mac ads (Goodwill and Gift Exchange). The video you're referring to is actually the Holiday 2006 Attract Loop played as a screensaver in Apple Retail Stores. There is a new version this year, if you want to stop by and check it out, I do not believe anyone has taken it upon themselves to post it online yet (Apple does not post their attract loops online for public access).

It amazes me that people can get so worked up over an ad. Here's the big picture you're missing. All ads, including Apple's, are crap. So who cares?

Right. And because of that, you're on a message forum, using your presumably valuable time, discussing it, just like thousands of others will be as this ad hits various other discussion forums like Digg and wherever. That's the whole point of advertising. Getting your product in people's heads.

Somewhere out there, someone in Apple's marketing dept. is getting a big, fat holiday bonus.

I don't know why some of you are complaining, you're on macrumors.com not pcrumors.com so anything related to mac's is bound to be discussed and brought up at some point. If you don't like it don't watch/read it.

I enjoyed the ad and thought it was a nice change from the usual mac and pc ads, however i still love every other mac and pc ad apple has ever done.

It's called marketing people.
