a gasping dying planet
last years

I wonder if this'll replace their annual promo that they make...

It'll be a shame if it does because I really liked last years

last year's was awesome!! i hope they come out with something like that with iphones and ipod touches and new imacs and whatnot!! i doubt a "buy a mac" ad would replace what they had last year you linked to.

I get your point, but just because an ad gets in your head doesn't mean you buy the product. The method Apple are using to entice people to switch from PC's to Mac's is overtly arrogant and smarmy.
Smarmy. I had to look that one up. Hehe. Good one :p

Smarmy: A certain attitude often accompanied by a squinty look and a superior smile that makes you instantly hate a person. Similar to snobby. "He/she/it is totally smarmy, I want to punch them in the face."

GREAT AD - but … did anyone else notice that both PC and Santa's mouth animations were 3D but that Mac's mouth was just drawn animations. I bet it was that they gave more attention because of time constraints in producing the spot. Loved the ad, but just noticed this.

How about showing off some of the amazing things OSX does? How about shouting about the security and ease of use? How about explaining you can use your Mac as a PC? These are all reasons why many people I know have switched to a Mac.

Who wants to be likened to that geek faced "PC guy"? Let's not forget you are talking about 90% of the worlds computer users – they can't all look like that gimp!

Just my opinion

Actually none of those ideas would make people switch. You have to target the "problem" and that's what Apple does. Many people don't know diddly squat about computers more than hitting the web browser icon and surfing and possibly email with a bit of training.
So to shout out in an ad all these cool features that OS X has may entice experienced computer users but most people are average and they know viruses, ant-virus software, spyware, crashing, slow downs and bloated unnecessary software which is the "problem" people encounter in Windows.

Now before you say, "Macs crash too", I am just making a point that an ad with any power targets the problem and lets people know there are alternatives. I mentioned earlier that many people don't know much about computers so they don't know there are alternatives.

I still hear people in retail stores say, "Macs don't run MS Office and that's sad because Office was on the Mac first and still has special features that are Mac only. People need to enlightened that there's an alternative and they don't have to tolerate the "problem".

I thought the ad was a good twist on a long running (and obviously successful) ad campaign. Every time a new "Get a Mac" ad comes out, I always think to myself, "is there any other company that tells you, in their adverts, to go buy the competitor's product, albeit facetiously?" I think it's brilliant, even if a bit overplayed.

Because it would be boring?

I find an interesting thing about humans is that there is always someone who has an opposing view. No matter how good something is, there is ALWAYS someone who doesn't like it. The opposite is true too. Depending on which side of the fence you are on goes along way towards illustrating how much you enjoy life. Glass half full... or half empty? You decide.

Why isn't there something about QuickTime 7.3.1 posted on the homepage instead of this useless crap? It's a stupid ad, get over it!

Bah Humbug you grinch! ;)

I'm wondering why the PC guy is fat, in real life he isn't. Subtle way of making "PC" less attractive

Man, this ad is so simple and brilliant and perfect for the Christmas season. I'm actually thinking of buying QT Pro now to start a collection of all the ads.

Made me think of the old Rankin/Bass Christmas cartoons from my youth. sniff...

I know! That's the best thing about it!
How many kids today don't understand and appreciate what Rankin/Bass was all about and just consider Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and The Life and Times of Santa Claus as mere cartoons?!

I would take the art form of Rankin/Bass over ANY cartoon today. It's pure craft!

Probably my favorite ad from Appple besides the 1984 ad.

I joined the forums just so I could comment on this ad. I saw it on TV last night with my wife and even she agreed that it was a great ad. My wife is not at all interested in Apple or anything 'puter related.

I wonder will the Apple Store employees be wearing t-shirts to match this ad?!
