Not with Refurb iMacs? (At least with the UK store)

Refurb MacBooks do though?

Refurbs don't ship with new iLife I think, but it costs about 10 bucks to get it with it.

Why not walk 5 minutes to the Apple Store and ask them? Or are they more tight-lipped than John Lewis? I have been waiting since December for a new iMac

Apple won't tell you, they can only hint something but not tell you anything more.

Wow, you must be tired for waiting, I've been waiting since July

Really? Did you know it was going to be in there?

I had no idea.
It's a separate dvd just 'slipped in' the box (rather than properly packaged with keyboard and install discs etc.)
"iLife '09 CPU Drop in DVD" with a sticker saying to upgrade to 10.5.6 with software update before installing iLife 09.

Well if refurbs aren't meant to have it, it's a nice bonus ;) To be honest knowing whether or not it would come with iLife '09 wasn't a huge issue to me.
I got the top end 24" since they had it in refurbished... that way I figured I'd feel a little less left behind if they do eventually bump up the iMac speeds/chips in the near future

Do you think the iMac's design will be changed at all? I don't really see a need.

Nope, and you're right; there isn't one.

What would they change it to, anyway? They've found their design. This look will stay for quite some time.

The structure hasn't changed since the G5, so you know that Apple is sticking with it.

Now all we need to see is a little touchup to the cheese grater case on the Mac Pro to make it even better...

Oh pooh! You mean it won't be released when these guys predict it will be released?? How mean.

I always hope/figure they will get rid of the "chin" and make it closer to a monitor. Is there any reason for that chin?

Is there any reason for that chin?

I think to fit all the hardware :p. Have you compared a iMac to 24" ACD monitor? I still can't believe they can fit all of that in such a small space. Plus, I like the "chin" :p.

Oh and about the redesing thing: no they won't change its looks but maybe with the whole new cooling rumor they'll change the insides of the iMac for a new layout in an effort to get the cooling as good as it can get.

So, I wanna ask you some questions, even though I have seen the threads. While waiting for this new iMac and seeing lots of pics of people having setups with MBP and an external monitor, I was wondering should I also go in that direction. The main reason I am waiting for the iMac is obviously the refreshed hardware and a quad cpu. But since only the top model will have the quad cpu and will be a lot more expensive, I am asking you, what are the chances that the basic models (talking about 24" here) will have better performance than the unibody Macbook Pro? The clock is ticking...

Thanks,
-J

Quite high. The thing is, macbooks are about portability, you are going to get a better performance on a desktop, because it's powered by mains, and it's not portable. It really is up to you, but you'll be spending money for a poorer computer, if you don't need the portability.

MBP and ext. monitor is more expensive than high end iMac. 24" base model is/will be more powerful than MBP. If you want portability, buy MBP + mon. otherwise iMac.

Its the power versus portablility debate again.. If you dont really need portability, iMac, if you do, MacBook Pro..

i am in the predicament in that i want to upgrade my two yr old MBP to the new imac that will be released but i will also wait for the refurb, so i have to wait 4-6 months longer then you who is gonna get the brand new release ones!

I just bought a refurbished 24" iMac from the UK Apple store, and there is an iLife '09 disc in the box.

I just ordered a refurbished low end 24" iMac from the US Apple Store on Thursday 2/5, should be here Wed 2/11, I'll check back and let you guys know if it came with iLife 09 as well
