my new imac...............................

waiting waiting................................so many rumors....................

but still wish dream come true.............

John Lewis @ Bluewater UK on Saturday 7th Feb.

Lady looking at iMac models for her daughter was told that they were not getting any more stock of the current models & that they could sell her a display model. The sales guy told the lady that this always happens when a new model is about to be released - he seemed pretty sure that the current range had ended.........

I wanted to buy an imac these days but after reading the rumors i'll wait a few days. Running out of stock is also reported in germany (i'm not from there but i read som german websites). So an out of stock in various countries is sure a sign that there's something new coming out. :apple:

I can confirm the shortage of iMacs. At my local Best Buy we have 2 20" iMacs, and 1 24" iMac. I'd imagine that a new release is imminent.

I'm waiting to order my iMac :)

Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but "imminent" could mean anything from tomorrow to 2 months away.

All models of the iMac are still fully in stock in many places, including the Apple Store in at least the UK & US...

Don't get your hopes up that it's right around the corner, people have been reporting these sporadic stock shortages for like a month.

All my local Best Buy's in a 50 mile radius and that is three, all are out of 24" iMac's and only 2 have 3 or less 20" iMac's. All have all the laptops you want in all configurations. A friend works at my local Best Buy and he looked on the computer at work and none were in route to the store either and there is a steady flow of all laptops.

There is a Apple speciality store (MegaByte) here and it has only 1 24" iMac and told me they were told no 3.06ghz iMac's were available. All this store does is sell all Apple products and services them.

It is obvious the new ones are close, but how close is the question. Apple may let things drag on for a week or two or more. Who knows.

This will be my first Apple and I want a fully decked 24" or if a 28" does appear then i will go that route.

Apple somewhat enjoys being evasive.

That is great news! iWonder which one I should have: the one with or without rear mounted BFG... :D

I wonder if their stocks are low because new products are coming very soon, or perhaps they're low because the stores aren't ordering replacements for computers they sell for fear they won't be able to sell them before new ones come out.

New iMacs will arrive... eventually.

It is the chicken or the egg argument. Makes you wonder.

All the indicators are in place.

1. Length of timeframe is plausible as Apple has updated products with this length of time on them many times before.
2. Stock IS dwindling.
3. 3.06ghz is gone from everywhere but Apple Online store just about.

These are facts. The rest is just rumor. Some more believable than others.

I do not suspect a major overhaul. No need for one. Update the processors, ram, video card and maybe screen to led and keep on rolling I think.

A 28" isn't going to roll out without a event debut and a 28" is kind of a bad idea in this economy. If you want it just get a Mac Pro and a 30" Apple monitor will probaly be Apple's stance.

I personally would like a 28" iMac Pro, who knows. I'd be happy with a upgraded 24". I sure would like for it to have a Quad core processor. and the ability to take up to at least 6gb of ram and I'd like to put 8gb in it.

The thing that bothers me most about waiting (which I have been doing for a long time now) is that I have the money with me just begging to be spent. The money is theirs! They have just have to do this one damn thing. I'm sure my own experience can be extrapolated to the general population thinking about switching/buying a new computer.

Quite high. The thing is, macbooks are about portability, you are going to get a better performance on a desktop, because it's powered by mains, and it's not portable. It really is up to you, but you'll be spending money for a poorer computer, if you don't need the portability.

The Macbooks also have the multitouch trackpad, which was a big deal for me. I don't need the portability, but that interface is really convenient and an all around joy for me to use. It'd be nice if it were a bit wider, by maybe 25%, but still great. Can't imagine life without it now.

That's a good argument yet other countries report the same. Think of it, because following your argumentation all stores who reported out of stock must be dumb at doing their business.

Personally I think people who frequent these forums are the minority - we are all too aware and concerened about purchasing our iMac at the beginning of a revision life cycle. The majority of purchasers don't concern themselves with these things and just go into their local store and pick-up the lastest/current version of the iMac.

Maybe this is the part where Apple shows that they not only care about the money, but they put great care into quality of their products and delivering them 100%.

Apple store Munich is not out of stock.

Does it mean anything at all in terms of new imacs if a load of new refurbs just went on the apple store UK? I remeber someone mentioning something about refurbs but cant find the post...anyone?

You're actually spot on, the kind of people that hang out here waiting months for an upgrade are such a tiny minority.

The vast majority of Apple customers will just buy what they want when they can afford it, clearly people are still buying the iMac in droves for it to be going out of stock in places.

So you could argue that Apple have the new iMac ready right now, the only thing that is stopping it hitting; is their iMac sales are still high so they want to clear out the current inventory of it.

As nice as it is to believe Apple have some higher purpose of moral or quality standards, they're in it for the money, every time. :p

Refurbs are returned systems that get fixed up then resold, sort of like second hand, I don't see why that would be any sort of indicator for a new release...

Apple store Munich is not out of stock.

But i think they can't order new ones because apple online store delayed deliveries of imacs even they are displayed with available in 24h.

All of my local Best Buys are showing iMac's on the way now, but none have a 3.06ghz iMac and it is not even an option on Best Buy's web page anymore.

I am starting to think this could drag on for who knows how long.

Nothing whatsoever came out today.

Next Tuesday who knows. One can hope.
