It must have been down cause I just checked mine and it still says...
Ships: Apr 17
Delivers: Apr 20
Yea it works well now. They were upgrading the system so it was down ~few hours

I'm going to order mine with the ATI card, but given the long wait I'm waiting to order it. What's the rush to order if they don't ship for a while?
But if I go ahead and order it, at least I can get that step out of my mind...then it's checking order status every day, every hour....
ahhhh.
They can't speed it up. ATI 4850 needs an update and it's not ready yet.
Would it be too much to think maybe all this would be ironed out I before they released the update to the iMac?
Anyway I went with the 3.06 with the ATI, I figured I'd be waiting a little bit but was very disappointed when I saw Ships: Apr 20 Delivers: Apr 24. My 1Ghz Powerbook G4 with 512 SDRAM and 60 Gig HD is on it's last leg, the fan is making weird noises as I write this...I just hope it makes it a little bit longer...

I swear they put something in the last software updates. Since the new iMacs were announced, my PowerBook G4 1.67Ghz is started to make funny fan noises and has sometimes kicked off - getting SUPER HOT and then shutting down. I can only use it for about an hour before this happens. But I have to wait til Apr 24!!??!!!??!
So minimal computer for me, I can barely run Aperture 2 now. I've found that an ice pack from the refridge wrapped in a towel is a wonderful cooling mechanism for my PowerBook. I tried the USB fan pads, but none work.
That's why I went for GT130Benchmarks shows that 4850 (it's the mobility version...) and GT130 (aka 9800M GTS) are almost similar, no super speed bumbs with ATI

I have the ATI ordered but am still on the fence. Do you have a link to the Benchmarks?
I think this is getting amusing as there is so much speculation as to why Apple will not ship the iMac configured with the 4850 until some time in April. As I mentioned on another post it is obviously not a supply problem as I am unaware of anyone receiving a 4850 configured iMac. Any other configuration ships immediately ( I just tried all configurations at the Apple site and only the 4850 has the 4 to 6 week delay). Maybe someone will create poll question as to the reason for the delay and when it will ship....![]()
Where did you see these benchmarks, the ones on Apples site show considerable speed increase with the ATI
my status is now 'Shipped on March 7th'
Read those ATI 4850 vs. GT130 threads and you will see. Because 4850 is mobility, it isn't so "good" and the price difference is only 50$ too
Considering Nvidia causing many hardware/driver issues lately among PC and Mac, I will still be happy to pay more for a 4850. At least, the driver will be written and maintained by ATI.
Isn't the GT130 mobile as well?
I want to see benchmarks between the two, if the 4850 doesn't pull ahead dramatically I will change my order.
You had ordered on the 28th, right? I ordered my parents iMac on the 28th as well and it appears that it has moved a little bit but it now says,"Prepared for shipment". Would have hoped that our would have shipped on the same day. Apparently not.
What did you order again? I ordered the 20" 2.66Ghz (well, Apple upgraded it to that) on the 28th. Thanks.
