6 weeks wait!

Ordered: Mar 4, 2009 at 09:36 AM GMT
Estimated Shipping: 15 Apr, 2009
Estimated Delivery: 20 Apr, 2009

3.06GHZ INTEL CORE 2 DUO
4GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRAM-2X2GB
ATI RADEON HD 4850 512MB
640GB SERIAL ATA DRIVE

Long wait, the drooling is getting ridiculous! Hope they get the necessary updates (or whatever it is holding them up) out sharpish!

Cannot wait!

I'm going to order mine with the ATI card, but given the long wait I'm waiting to order it. What's the rush to order if they don't ship for a while?

But if I go ahead and order it, at least I can get that step out of my mind...then it's checking order status every day, every hour....

ahhhh.

if you take longer to order than it will take longer for it to arrive. order now! lol

i understand what you mean though, I use to check my order status numerous times a day. now im down to once a day, soon to be every other every day haha.

They can't speed it up. ATI 4850 needs an update and it's not ready yet.

Would it be too much to think maybe all this would be ironed out I before they released the update to the iMac?

Anyway I went with the 3.06 with the ATI, I figured I'd be waiting a little bit but was very disappointed when I saw Ships: Apr 20 Delivers: Apr 24. My 1Ghz Powerbook G4 with 512 SDRAM and 60 Gig HD is on it's last leg, the fan is making weird noises as I write this...I just hope it makes it a little bit longer...

I swear they put something in the last software updates. Since the new iMacs were announced, my PowerBook G4 1.67Ghz is started to make funny fan noises and has sometimes kicked off - getting SUPER HOT and then shutting down. I can only use it for about an hour before this happens. But I have to wait til Apr 24!!??!!!??!

So minimal computer for me, I can barely run Aperture 2 now. I've found that an ice pack from the refridge wrapped in a towel is a wonderful cooling mechanism for my PowerBook. I tried the USB fan pads, but none work.

That's why I went for GT130 :D Benchmarks shows that 4850 (it's the mobility version...) and GT130 (aka 9800M GTS) are almost similar, no super speed bumbs with ATI

I have the ATI ordered but am still on the fence. Do you have a link to the Benchmarks?

I think this is getting amusing as there is so much speculation as to why Apple will not ship the iMac configured with the 4850 until some time in April. As I mentioned on another post it is obviously not a supply problem as I am unaware of anyone receiving a 4850 configured iMac. Any other configuration ships immediately ( I just tried all configurations at the Apple site and only the 4850 has the 4 to 6 week delay). Maybe someone will create poll question as to the reason for the delay and when it will ship....

Where did you see these benchmarks, the ones on Apples site show considerable speed increase with the ATI

Read those ATI 4850 vs. GT130 threads and you will see. Because 4850 is mobility, it isn't so "good" and the price difference is only 50$ too

My order status have been stuck in "Shipped" stage and when I look from the carrier's web site which is the "Track this shipment" thing it have been the same for 3 days. My iMac got shipped on 6th. Also no new e-mails yet, only that one which says it has been shipped.

I'm mad because the delivery should be on 11th so day after tomorrow and nothing info about it.

When the delivery e-mail usually comes?

my status is now 'Shipped on March 7th'

You had ordered on the 28th, right? I ordered my parents iMac on the 28th as well and it appears that it has moved a little bit but it now says,"Prepared for shipment". Would have hoped that our would have shipped on the same day. Apparently not.

What did you order again? I ordered the 20" 2.66Ghz (well, Apple upgraded it to that) on the 28th. Thanks.

Isn't the GT130 mobile as well?

I want to see benchmarks between the two, if the 4850 doesn't pull ahead dramatically I will change my order.

If you really read it carefully, you will know it's just some speculation. AFAIK, no one has received iMac with ATI 4850 yet, so no one would know now. I ordered one as well, and the expected shipping date is in late April. Since GT130 has been shipped with the new iMac already, someone did the benchmark and compared it to the existing benchmark of ATI 4850 ASSUMING it's a mobility version that's inside the new iMac. Therefore, when you claim that statement, you're assuming it's a mobility version too. IF that's the case, then the performance increase will be negligible. Might be true, but it just might as well be wrong.

Considering Nvidia causing many hardware/driver issues lately among PC and Mac, I will still be happy to pay more for a 4850. At least, the driver will be written and maintained by ATI.

That alone is worth the $50 more price tag.

Doesn't ATI release drivers more frequent than Nvidia?

Hence why I am waiting. I may wait till WWDC as well to see if they do anything to fix that abomination they call the 2499 Mac Pro...

I am so close to hackintoshing it...

I originally ordered the previous gen mac, the 2.8 GHZ one. However, the following tuesday, the new gen ones were released, and apple emailed me telling me that they had changed my cancelled my original order, and replaced it with a mac of the new range, the 2.93 ghz one, with the gt130. However the drawback was that i'd have to wait a little longer, which is fine by me. But yeah, yours is considerably behind mine, I dont know why that is, its probably due to whose shipping it and where we live.
