Ships on the 20th and arrives on the 22nd of April. When I first placed the order it said it wouldn't arrive until the 24th. But I paid for 2 day shipping so I was pretty mad about that, but then it changed the arrival date.

Changed some hours ago from "Ships: apr 16" to "Ships: 1 - 3 days" and delivers Mar 12 - Mar 13.
It seems that who has chosen the HD 4850 won't have to wait all that time...

That's a great news. Hope mine change soon. It will be my first mac.
I bought the same model and opted for wireless keyboard and mouse, also the iWork pre-installed.

Very much looking forward to performance comparisons between the GS 130 and Radeon 4850 models.

Well, I received my iMac a day early today. Must say I'm very pleased and my wife was very excited as well.

No complaints so far!

You realize that there's info on there that you probably don't want to be sharing with the world?

Geez.

Lol! :D
I see you canceled your first iMac order so that you could get the numeric keypad. Why is that?
This is the beginning of the awkward questions that come from sharing your order status with others. :D

Yeah, you're right...
Could you pls remove the link from your reply?
I just wanted to prove what I've said in the previous post.

Sorry about that =P

If you really read it carefully, you will know it's just some speculation. AFAIK, no one has received iMac with ATI 4850 yet, so no one would know now. I ordered one as well, and the expected shipping date is in late April. Since GT130 has been shipped with the new iMac already, someone did the benchmark and compared it to the existing benchmark of ATI 4850 ASSUMING it's a mobility version that's inside the new iMac. Therefore, when you claim that statement, you're assuming it's a mobility version too. IF that's the case, then the performance increase will be negligible. Might be true, but it just might as well be wrong.

Considering Nvidia causing many hardware/driver issues lately among PC and Mac, I will still be happy to pay more for a 4850. At least, the driver will be written and maintained by ATI.

One guy called to Apple and asked about 4850 and they said that it's the mobility version. We don't know is it overclocked version though.

I did confirm via Apple sales and another call to Apple support that it is the mobility version. Did not see this post or I would have asked if it was "overclocked" version.

I did inquire into the shipping date and the Sales person did confirm that it is still 4 to 6 weeks so I will be very interested in seeing Driffs Fed Ex shipping confirmation which would actually confirm that it had shipped or was about to be shipped.

I saw one post that one guy called Apple like 5 times and got different answers. 4 out of 5 times, he got the answer that it's indeed a desktop version. Only 1 out of 5, he was told it's a mobility version. I am not sure if that's the guy you're talking about though. I am not quite sure what makes you believe it's a mobility version. I am certainly interested to see what it turns out to be.

I know it's always been the laptop part that's inside the iMac, but on the other thread, someone did the benchmark of GT130. Assuming he's done it correctly, it should be a desktop version. It doesn't make much sense to me to have a desktop GPU as mid-end, and a laptop version as high-end considering the performance improvement is small, that's all I am trying to say.

How come my expected shipping date hasn't been changed like DRiff's?

i just spoke to one person on the phone, and two in the chat (apple online store), and all said that the shipment (with radeon 4850) would be delayed by 4-6 weeks.

OK, I am talking about avihappy:

That is why I'm a bit weary to take their word for it. I think that if the GT 130 being discussed in this thread is a desktop card, then that lends credence to the idea that the 4850 is also a desktop version.

Remember the X1600? I'm using right now! :p

EDIT: I was just talking to Apple on the phone, and was referred to the "systems engineer". He said that the Radeon 4850 was the Desktop card, not the mobility variant. I think that is enough evidence for me to believe that we will be getting the real deal. My buddy also did another sales chat and confirmed the same thing.

Desktop Version: 4
Mobility Version: 1

Go to the ATI site and look at the specs for the Desktop version and the Mobility version of the 4850. I do not see how you could put the Desktop version of the card into the iMac. The iMac is basically a hybrid laptop and has mostly laptop components. Until someone actually sees one in the flesh and can benchmark it, or better yet take it apart, we will not know for certain. Seems even the Apple people are confused on this one.

As I mentioned before, until we see a Fed Ex confirmation of shipment from DRiff, one must assume it is a mistake.

My recent email :(

How long will my order take?
We estimate your order to be shipped 20 Apr, 2009.
We estimate your order will be delivered to your shipping address
on or before 27 Apr, 2009.

Seems to be an awfully long time, but I did speak to someone at Apple today and she told me that they were giving the the latest leadtimes and mine should not take as long as that.

Hmmm don't entirely believe her, as she did say she would call me back today with an update and didn't!!!

No one at Apple has a clue when it will ship.... No one at Apple has a clue why it is not shipping now....
