They will definitely not drop Firewire in the iMac. Cause professionals are known to use iMacs instead of the Mac Pro

SJ no longer seems to give a rat's a%% about professionals. Apple is now actively expanding their market, and for that they are putting all sorts of shine, gloss, and bling in their computers, since most consumers want just that.

Can you predict some prices. How much more expensive will they be?

I really can't predict prices, because with apple you never know, I'm guessing it will happen like with macbooks: low-end would have a similar price, while high end will increase around 200$. Just a guess.

At the moment there's no reason to put two GPU's in the iMac. Also it's pretty bad if they go from 8800GS to 9600M GT as it's slower or just equal in performance. I would like to see a HD4850. I think they'll stick nVidia though.

Maybe they'll just put nVidias renamed 8800GT (9800GT) in there and say its x% faster.

A GTX 260 would've been nice.

this excites me. i really think that apple made a mistake dropping firewire from the macbook. so if they drop it from this one it will kill. but as previously stated, they will at most probibly drop firewire 400

Firewire 1600 anyone? ;)

Nah seriously, I'm really excited for these updates. I hope you're right, even though I doubt that the lower end iMac will be configured standard with a 2.8Ghz CPU.

9400M is an NVIDIA graphics card.
Intel Centrino 2 is a processor.
Montevina is the chipset.

Kinda..

the 9400M is a nVidia integrated graphics on a nVidia chipset.
It isnt Montevina, thats Intels chipset which would have X1300

Hense why nVidia are the ones confirming the chipsets accept 8GB of ram and not Intel

naah, not really.

9400M is a graphics card.. but also a chipset. 2in1. =) MCP79+9400M G
Intel Centrino 2 is not a processor. It's the name of Intel's certified mobile platform. Centrino 2 = Intel CPU, Intel Chipset, Intel Wifi
Montevina was the codename for Centrino 2. Montevina == Centrino 2
The codename Montevina refers to the fifth-generation Centrino platform, now formally named Centrino 2 to avoid confusion with previous Centrino platforms.
Wikipedia

The Processors name is Intel Core 2 (Duo/Quad), the current processor codename is Penryn.
Chipsets used in Centrino2/Montevina =GL40, GS45, GM45, GM47 or PM45 northbridges together with a ICH9M southbridge

As a side note: Apple never uses the whole Centrino platform and can therefore not call their computers Centrino2/Montevina computers. For example, they don't use the Intel Wifi card.

Peace out! :)

What's wrong with this picture?

Yeah, and the iMac would include an early Montevina chipset with the Centrino 2 chipset.
Anyway, the thing is that Apple have their own "special chipsets" in some sort of way.

i´m really curious about the new iMacs...
will return finally back to this beautiful computer, after i returned to windows for some months...it´s horrible...

i guess the update features will be minimal,... nvidia graphic, probably a better cpu, but that´s it,...probably they sink the price to 50-99 $...

I would like to see at least 9800M GTS in the iMacs

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_9800m_gts.html

9800GT or 9800GTX would be better!

Me too.

I really wish Apple would put a top-of-the-line mobile graphics chipset from NVIDIA in the iMacs.

Also, to the original posters, there's no need for a 9400M + 9600M. The 9400M in the laptops is there to save battery power, which is something the iMacs don't need.

It's a very good option for energy saving against global warming. Remember Apple is getting greener. :p

I'm just pretty sure this is the month of the new release. I think there will be some hardware upgrades, such as:

CPU

Montevina (Centrino 2) platform.
Low-end: Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz.
High-end: Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz or Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core 2.53GHz.

GPU

Low-end: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (256MB GDDR3).
High-end: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT (256MB or 512MB GDDR3).

Simply :apple:

there is a mistake,if they use Montevina (Centrino 2) platform
there wont be NV GPU chipset, cos Montevina (Centrino 2) platform includes the N/S chipsets, so there wont be 9400+9600M GT in the High end configs either

sorry for my en

I can't really see them putting 9400m in the imacs. As they are not as powerful as the graphics card already in the imac, and there is no need to try and preserve battery life in the imac. There is no point to the 9400m at all in the imac.

L.e.d?

Seems like there is at least a reasonable possibility of L.E.D. displays in the new iMacs. Is there a visible difference, for example, between Apple's new 24" LED display and the display on the current 24" iMac?

Quad core is another possibility people keep raising. Do we really think the high end will have quad core, or are we still an iteration or two away from that in the iMac?
