Title of this thread is misleading it should say MY predictions the way its worded makes it sound like you have final info..

My take on that would be pretty blah as well they need a much higher speed boost and better video card options as well

The changes are so minimal since I got my Imac in 2006 yes different bus speeds etc but not much that makes me need to upgrade.

The standard video card now needs to be a 512 and an upgraded to the 768's otherwise Im not even moving until its worth the cash..

yeah this title is kind of confusing

i got a bum 24 inch iMac, and have to return it and i almost made the mistake of asking the guy about the new ones in November... any other proof to this?

I can't really see them putting 9400m in the imacs. As they are not as powerful as the graphics card already in the imac, and there is no need to try and preserve battery life in the imac. There is no point to the 9400m at all in the imac.
Well the low-end iMac does have a HD 2400 now...

Seems like there is at least a reasonable possibility of L.E.D. displays in the new iMacs.
Agreed.

Quad core is another possibility people keep raising. Do we really think the high end will have quad core, or are we still an iteration or two away from that in the iMac?
Technically it's possible. But I've looked at the CPU speeds in the Mac Pro and they've never had a lower-clocked quad-core with higher-clocked quad-cores. So I'd probably say no to quad-core until 2010 (when they get cheap enough for the iMac to go all quad-core), although I'd like it if they came earlier. Same with the MacBook Pro. Dual-cores for another two years or so.

Some of you sure like to dream but the iMac is made from mostly mobile parts i.e. the processor... Quad core would be nice but let's be realistic here, quad core mobile processors won't come to market until Nehalem, which is supposedly due to be released in late 2009/2010.

wouldnt it kind of be late to do this RIGHT BEFORE christmas and the holidays?

(unless this is their way to boost sales last minute)

i'm in sales and we usually let people know way in advance :)

Except for that part where the penryn refresh quads start appearing in stuff in January.

What do we reckon to the chances of the Nehalem chips being introduced to the iMac range around August/September 2009 - or do we reckon it will be later in the year?

Except that Penryn quads are already here or will come very soon.

prove it, then I'll eat some crow.
Prove that Nehalem will bring the first quad-core mobile CPUs. The QX9300 is already here, so you don't have a leg to stand on.

(Side note: 17" 2560*1600? :eek::eek:)

Late 2009 at the earliest, I think.

As bolen already said, 9600M GT is a downgrade over 8800GS (read: 8800M GTS). So it won't be a 9600M GT. But I think the GPU will be still a mobile one.

For the highest-end, yes. But for the next one, the 9800M could be a BTO option. Also it is notable that for the lowest-end iMac, the GPU downgraded from an X1600 to a HD 2400 with the change to aluminum. I wouldn't consider it impossible for the same thing to happen with the high-end (8800M GTS to 9600M GT). Still, I think the *8*0 will stay in the highest model.

Thank you for correcting me.

Well, besides those predictions I made on the thread, I am 150% sure that iMacs' display will be updated to LED. I mean, isn't that obvious, right?

Where is the CPU upgrade on the high end??

I'm just pretty sure this is the month of the new release. I think there will be some hardware upgrades, such as:
CPU

Montevina (Centrino 2) platform.
Low-end: Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz.
High-end: Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz or Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core 2.53GHz.
:

I've seen a few different people predict the high end iMac CPU to be 3.06 core2duo Montevina (1066 Front side bus).

How is that different from the CURRENT high end iMac?? Which is also 3.06Ghz and a 1066FSB???
Where's my CPU upgrade?

i agree with most. faster fsb and larger hard drives. i dot think they will drop firewire. its still the best way to back up to external hard drive.

no quad cores though....... its too soon

If that is the case I hope they do it soon. i just got a new 24" machine and have a 30 day price guarantee. Money back to add some software would be nice! After two years of rumors I could not wait any longer. I glad I did not. What a machine!:D

I would like the new iMac to be straight BLACK, with a silver (or possibly RED) apple in the middle...! That would be DOPE!

If they don't do this in a few weeks, I'd like it to be on the Nehalem version that hopefully comes out in the summer some time :).

Man so much debating going back and forth in between buying a new November iMac or waiting for the Nehalem...AND considering the next generation on MBP's as they might come out in the summer some time too. For now I've got 24inch iMacs to work on in the music lab at school :D

You want to get brave on prediction.
New 30" iMac core 2 quad, 2xSATA HD.

along with bumps to the current 20" & 24" but only core 2 duo.
other wise LED backlight, nVidia Chipset and graphics, FW 800, mini displayport all round. Revised back panel with user accessable Sata HD, memory and cardbus or USB2 slot for TV tuner.

The 20" will drop out 9to12months when the next case overhaul happens.
It would fit the usual pattern.

Imacs

Question of mind:

Everyone here is discussing the gfx cards that are going to be in the Nov-imacs, but i was wondering...

I saw on Apples website that the new macbooks gfx card made them run video-editing and games 2.3 X faster... that means if i wait like 18 days i'll be able to buy an imac that runs games e.x. 2.3 times faster than the current one probably ? or won't the upgrade be that big.

I ask cous i want a 24' imac ( i love the screen :D ) but it's very expensive and there are no 24'inch low end imacs - unfortunately :( ..

So i consider buying a "used imac" but - if the november imac is going to be 2.3 x faster then it' won't even be worth buying a computer that is 2.3 times slower for maybe half price ... that's simple math.. will the new imacs be THAT much faster ?

if there are really new iMacs comming out in two weeks, why no leaked pics etc released yet, like we would usually see?!

Yea, there are no design changes for the iMac. No public show event. Internal changes only.
