Right now my iMac 24" 3.06ghz is in Prepared for Shipment since this morning. . . What exactly is Prepared for Shipment? Is it that it's just in a box with the label on it? If that is the case why does it take longer than 12 hours to ship it?
Impatient my butt! I would be asking for blood by that time. . . god I so hope I get mine by Friday and I ordered it last Saturday off the internet.
Yiepee, my 3,06/750/Nvidia 8800 arived yesterday. Ordered on May, 2th, one day ahead of estimated date. Had to leave the box unboxed at home as I needed to go back to work.
First impression from yesterday late evening, well what can I say, very, very, very fast for me migrating from a maxed out G4 Powerbook, 2GB, 250GB. Btw: Mine came the direct way from czech in less than 4 days from shipment.

So, how do you like your iMac? All fine?
I must say I expected a quieter system. It is not noisy, but not silent either. The fans are clearly spinning and noticeable.
so, after some trouble getting windows to install,
heres my review on a 2.8/750/8800 imac.
slightly more fan noise than 07-alu-imac,
decoupled my table some more and the faint hum wasn't
noticable anymore. the screen has LESS bleed than
my 07-alu-imac, the gradient issue is there but its
not an issue for me. its not that dramatic.
i even showed it to a fellow illustrator and we decided
that without knowing, one would not see it.
and i guess our eyes aren't that bad, being in the business.
also, the case is slightly cooler than the 2,4-07-imac
now for games
w/ win xp @ full res/full detail/no aa/af:
BIOSHOCK - 45 fps avg
COD4 - 50 fps avg
OBLIVION - 40 fps avg
STALKER - 30 fps avg
HLEP2 - 60 fps avg

Of course bootcamp. You cannot get good enough 3D support on virtual machines(yet) ...
Wow. Did you order online or through a store. I just checked in again and they told me ANOTHER WEEK!!!! (almost 3 weeks now). I ordered through Westworld. Simply Computing had 5 of the 3.06's in stock 2 weeks ago but they were all spoken for.
So far, I'm very happy. I have one dead pixel deep very down in the left corner. That's not perfect, but I will never notice in real life use. The backlighting seems to be more constant than in the last rev from last August. Still minor bleed in the edges, but not bad at all.
It's very fast for all my main work in lightroom, photoshop, etc. And finally I can now start the little video editing I wanted to do, which was impossible with the G4 power I had before, not to meantion how loud the powerbook got under heavy load. ;-)
It might be true these are a little louder then the revisions from August 2007, but related to the performance it offers very low noise emission I think.
Btw.: I took the lazy bum way to migrate from my powerbook with migration assistant over a time machine backup I had. So it's not perfectly clean setup, but I could start working in 2 hours after assistant was through restoring from a FW800 disc. Do you see big drawnbacks in the longterm migrating like this?
As per today, my machine is in RMA process.
So first positive feedback turned to the bad side. I have weird issues with Nvidia 8800 graphic card, I think, as these are the same with windows XP in bootcamp. See https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/489266/
Ordered my iMac on May 16th.. specs below.. and its due to deliver tomorrow, but FedEx has said that it's been shipped from first California, now its been stuck:

going to get the 3.06Ghz, but can't decide whether to get 4gb ram or not. does anyone have 4gb and compared them?

The ram is worth having, just not at Apple prices. Buy from OCZ from NewEgg. Less then half the cost from Apple. I have a new iMac and ran it for a week on 2GB, then upgraded to 4GB. The system is managing to use the ram.
