As much as it pains me, I'm anticipating $999/1299 as the starting prices for the iPads Pro, with OLED as a justification for the price increase, but they'll give us a starting storage of 256GB.

If they hike the prices that high and start at 128GB that's really going to leave a poor taste in my mouth.

Well, as mentioned, a retail US$999 price for the 11" means I'm likely not buying even if it's 256 GB, unless they totally wow us in some other way.

Yeah, I get that and think that is reasonable - I just think OLED is enough of a hook for some people to justify the price increase, and in Apple's mind for those who can't swallow the Pro price, now there's a 13" Air they can sell you.

The Euro is still down vs the USD about 13% compared to December 2020 values, and US pricing does not include VAT. Is pricing after VAT is removed still somewhat higher in Europe than in the US? Yes, but that's the way it's always been.

It's always possible though that US price increases with the OLED Pro models might be larger than European price increases. Apple likes to hedge its bets a bit with currency exchange, but given that the Euro hasn't fluctuated as much recently, it might be reasonable to adjust accordingly somewhat.
Yes, and it's up 10% versus fall 2022. It's easy to pick numbers and dates, as financial markets fluctuate all the time.

This is no contest, friend. You and me are both right.

Prices have been set during foreign currency exchange headwinds (= what you're right about).

Prices have remained high even when the headwinds disappeared - and it's given Apple data that people are willing to pay higher prices in an economically weaker region than the USA (= what I'm right about).

For what it's worth, iPhone 15 prices were readjusted in Europe compared to iPhone 14 prices, so I'd agree with you that it's likely that Euro prices might not increase as much - or even decrease as has happened with iPhone 15.

Just bring an iPad Air 7,9“ and 11“. Basically removes the need of iPad mini. If you need more screen size go iPad pro.

Well, with few exceptions, Apple doesn't adjust pricing during the initial retail run of its products. They almost always wait until the next refresh before adjusting pricing.

It just so happened that the 2022 iPad Pro launch happened at one of the worst moments in the Euro's history. For the others here that may not know, on October 18, 2022 when the iPad Pro was announced, the Euro was actually worth less than the US dollar, at about 98¢ US.

But yeah, this does bode well for a readjustment of iPad Pro pricing in Europe this year. However, Apple will likely still build in a currency exchange buffer of several % to protect their margins.

As a native speaker, I can gurantee what Instant Digital mentioned (壳膜厂家) is the manufacturers of iPad’s screen protector and the cases, instead of the manufacturer of iPad itself.

What do you mean?

Ah yes, that makes sense.

Usually the accessory manufacturers are right, but sometimes they are wrong.

Please New Gen 7 iPad Mini. it's been 910 days since I bought the one I have. Time to upgrade and pass down Gen 6.

It's past time to replace my 2015 iPad Pro 12.9" (first gen).

I just have to decide if I want the 12.9": new M2 Air, new M3 Pro, or should I buy a discounted M2 Pro from last year...
(Probably one of the new ones, but need to factor in the differences in features and cost).

It seems like they just want to force you up to the next model. Ideally I want to buy a 128GB standard iPad but base Air is about the same. 64GB is a joke so I would need to go for 256GB which is too much. At that price I might as well just get a base iPad Pro 11" with 128GB.

Instead of spending £499 I'd spend £899. I want to buy one for my girlfriend whose iPad is getting really slow now but the price are insane. the iPad is her main device when not using a smartphone. Maybe it's time we look elsewhere. Maybe the Samsung tablets are worth buying or getting a cheap laptop (that doesn't include a MacBook Air).
that's the plan, Apple is thinking exactly like you :)

Aliexpress is already selling the iPad Air Pro 2024, comes standard with 256 GB. Price in Euro not too bad… and hey, they ditched the M2 processor!

🤣😉

The misleading article referring to the iPad manufacturers instead of the iPad case manufacturers*, and the existence of the new Android iPad Air Pro 2024, makes me wonder if the rumour is actually referring to cases for the new iPad Pros. Does anyone have a link to the original Chinese Instant Digital post?

*I have seen an English translated version of the post, but he talks about the "shell film" which people interpreted as the shell. However, @weyvyug is telling us that refers to just the cases and screen protectors.

This is EXACTLY the strategy. Make the lowest end so undesireable that only the desperate or lowest need budgets / use cases purchase it.

Now you're at the bottom of the middle ground, and its just a wee bit more expensive to be a little higher in the sweet spot...but still missing something big from the upper tier. Now your closer....

...and closer... and closer....

(spends 50% more than planned, apples laughs, then sells you expensive accessories.)

Congrats, you've been Tim cook'ed.

I’m with ya on these two points, for sure!

The current form factor is lovely aside from that screen issue. An update would make it quite tempting, but ios still stinks. Apple could easily make it a best in category device, with the bigger ipads as a different use case customer with its own top end.

They could do it. But they wont, because Tim absolutely Cooks.

This is fake news, because the editor got the translation wrong.
the instant digital was saying the cases and screen protectors for two size iPad airs are shipping to the overseas customers.
the shipped are cases and screen protectors for iPad airs, not iPad airs.

Will be good to have a larger screen size option for the Air. Expecting the new iPads to be in Apple stores by the 1st week of April.

And surely will still include a bottom-of-the-barrel 60Hz panel because if it had anything higher, it would take away from the even higher profit iPad Pro series buyers that want what Samsung Tab S users have -- high refresh rate panels.
