Desperate wanting a new iPad Mini! It been going on 4 years or a long time since Apple updated it with a new SoC. The Mini 3 & 4 used the A8. Apple added more memory to the Mini 4. Only difference.
Mini 4 is going on 3 years, not 4. Mini 3 had A7 and Mini 4 has A8 and double the RAM (2GB instead of 1GB). Also, Mini 4 has a laminated display, so the design is thinner than the Mini 3. Mini 2 & 3 will likely cease to be supported on iOS when iOS 13 debuts next year. Mini 4 will live to see another update, but its future beyond that remains a mystery (it’ll likely not be supported on iOS 14, but who knows).

If Apple has any intention to keep the Mini around longer, they’ll need to refresh it this fall or in the spring of 2019. Otherwise, it’ll likely be 9.7”, 11” and 12.9/13” going forward.

Imagine shrinking the bezels on the 9.7. Would be a more mini form factor and still keep the excellent 9.7 screen size. I don't think it would happen to avoid cutting into the soon to be bezelless and FaceID based Pros.

I’d be very interested in that iPad. I hope that’s what Apple releases in the spring. I’d be all over it. I wonder if the price would be higher than this year’s 9.7”. I imagine it would be higher, but I’m not sure how much higher.

Shrinking the bezels on the 9.7 is what the 10.5 is ... shrinking the bezels on the Mini would get you pretty close to 9.7 size in a mini form factor. You could theoretically get an 8.5" screen ... with the Xs Max in place at 6.5 though, a mini is just a tough sell ... its a kids ipad at this point ... thats why i bought the mini, but now with a cheaper 9.7, you would have to cost down your mini to $300 max, which would give Apple 2 budget iPads, just doesnt make sense from a business standpoint.

As was pointed out above, Apple was challenged with the small screen market, and now people are foregoing those unless the pay peanuts, like the fire tablets which give you plenty of experience for $50. just hard to beat that and not Apple's market position, they would rather give the business to Amazon. It will be interesting to see what the Screen Time features of iOS12 do for apple in adoption of its new 9.7 ipad.

We’re talking about shrinking the bezels and keeping the 9.7” screen size, not using that extra space for screen like the 10.5”. Instead shrink the form factor while retaining the same screen size. That would please me very much. You would still have that classic 9.7” screen in an even more compact body.

That's exactly what he was describing doing.

I wonder whether they'll make 128GB as the base model. I would consider upgrading my 2018 iPad to iPad Pro in October if that's the case. The only reason I bought 2018 iPad was because the lowest end iPad Pro only has 64GB. I upgraded from a 64GB iPad 1 to a new iPad because I ran out of space.

An iPad with no home button would have approx 11" screen right?
So in theory Apple can have ONE iPad size for sale that's bigger than 9.7, smaller than 12.9 ?

so, next month is the new iPad pro with the iPhone x design like.

i have a feeling the price is going to be super $$$$$

probably 256GB-516GB with cellular $1500?? what you guys think or more?

My thinking is to wait a year,. In 2019 5G will be out and everyone will be upgrading. 5g will be faster than most home internet speeds. So we will regrets upgrading now when just around the corner will be a device four times faster

I'd say $50 increase if at all. iPhone 8 started at $699 and the Xr is only $749, even though it has FaceID and the reduced bezels.

Yeah, and then a year after that it’ll be OLED screens on ipads....and then something else. You can play the waiting game forever.

Remember the iPad cannot break into MacBook territory otherwise even fewer people will buy one.

But yeah they already cost an arm and a leg...

I truly hope I’m wrong, but with lack of leaked parts and solid reliable info... I am not sure they’ll do iPads this year.
Again, I hope I’m dead wrong.
I think you are wrong for these reasons:

iPad leaks usually don't come especially in these cases where the CAD blueprints leaked and people know whats coming.
No one really cares for iPads or Macs as the whole leaking business is mainly focused on the iPhones as that is where the leakers really make money. In the past there were leaks about everything but now it really boils down to iPhone only. Every now and then we see a glimpse of something else but overall, pic leaks about non iphone products are very rare these days.

So, I expect new iPP this year for various reasons just as I expect minor refresh to iMacs although I would really prefer redesign on the iMacs (at least in terms of thermals inside).

I'm waiting to buy both (12.9 iPP and 27 iMac) but I highly doubt we have to wait to march for iPP updates. (or longer)

We shall see but I think next month the invites will be out saying something like: We are not finished yet :)

I really hope so! My iPad 4 is getting long in the tooth and ready for retirement. I've kicked around getting the 9.7 since it came out in March, but for how much I use it, I think the extra horsepower of the Pro would be useful. Add in a new MacBook and I might just direct my paycheck to apple that month.

As an aside, the battery in my iPad 4 is one impressive beast. 5.5 years on and I still can go most of the day without a charge.

For October ipad event, I predict an 11” ipad pro and a 12.9” ipad pro with face ID and slimmer bezels will be announced. DOH! Heh heh heh.

Is oled screen possible in new unannounced i pad pro's
My very reliable 10.5 is still profitable if I were to trade in soon.
Though I'de be restricted to soon to be delivered Xs and Wind10 i3 laptop -until new ipad is released.
Is Oc't an accurate time or could new i. Pads run into 2019

5g will be a game changer in many ways, but like OLED, it goes back to playing the waiting game. I’m certainly guilty of doing so, what with my Air 1 and 5s I’m way over do for upgrades. If I had newer devices that were working satisfactorily for me, I would jump back into the game and wait for 5g capability and an OLED screen (it also having an A13X and 6Gb memory!). But, ya, can’t wait for a new iPhone Xr and bezeless iPad Pro.

This would be my dream travel iPad. A bezel-less mini with an 8.5” screen with face ID and pencil support. One can only wish.

Anything is possible, but all the rumors seem to say that an OLED iPad is a good year or two away.

That’s just an opinion. In reality the company sells way more iPads and markets this as the laptop replacement.
