Is there any likelihood that Apple would launch the iPad Pro without a press conference to showcase it?

It's a "simple laptop" replacement.

I don't think Apple would market the iPad as a Mac replacement by any strech of the imagination

oh, but they do.

For just the basic computing needs, the iPad is fine. However, I could not survive a day without my Mac as my needs are business related and need fast powerful computers.
email, small docs, basic image manipulation etc all good on the iPad. I am sure a lot of adults are doing this as well as kids as mentioned somewhere above.

Considering that I already have an IPP 10.5 and do not plan to upgrade, the only thing I really care about is how powerful that SoC is going to be. Can't wait!! :p

(Hmm also hopefully the price isin't extremely high, if only for the fact that future generations of the iPad would also increase in price.)

New Pencil will cost (because if usbc is true then old pencil won’t charge). Maybe a case or kB. Hoping for some functionality with Macs by plugging in. Wacom?

Should we be worried about maybe Intel only modem going in since ditched on new iPhones and might be having problems? Probably antenna design though.

if you saw the CAD image..i think this way you will have even better antenna design

There’s not much doubt that it’s coming next month. The Lead Genius at my Apple Store said “probably” when I mentioned a new iPad in addition to the Xr release next month.

The ‘Lead Genius’ are often less informed than people on these forums and are given absolutely zero information on upcoming product launches.

My only question about the rumored iPad Pro event in October is...When exactly would it be? Apple has preorders for the iPhone X-R on October 16th with an October 23rd launch date. So I wouldn’t think Apple would announce the iPad pros in the 2nd half of October because it would compete with all the iPhone X-R hoopla.

That leaves the first two weeks of October. But again, the 2nd week of October would be awfully close to the launch date of the iPhone X-R on the 16th. That leaves the first week of October....but it’s already September 26th and no news yet.

I am beginning to think the iPad Pro event will be in November, not October. What do y’all think?

Im thinking roughly the same thing. It would hVe to be the week of the 16th with the pre orders for them being then as well. Im going to say if we dont get invites by the end of next week it would have to be late october. But im sure they want to get them out by novemeber in time for the holiday season

Dont forget this announcement is not just for iPads. It will be for the air replacement, MacBooks updates, iMac and mini [apparently]. They always do these announcements in October and I expect invites to go out next week.
I can't see it dragging out to November, as that would be unusual.

hopefully the iPads are ready for order immediately. I am really looking forward to seeing them and everything else [the phone update had zero interest for me].

Imagine shrinking the bezels on the 9.7. Would be a more mini form factor and still keep the excellent 9.7 screen size. I don't think it would happen to avoid cutting into the soon to be bezelless and FaceID based Pros.

I've thought about it. This would be my ideal iPad.

With an update as big as this one for iPads I highly doubt they will be available to order immediately. I think at best we’ll be able to order the following Friday at midnight just like what they do with iPhones and watches, with the official release not until the following Friday as with phones and watches. I sure hope I’m wrong...I’ve been waiting to dang long as it is. As long as Face ID works in landscape (since we already know it’s gonna have Face ID) I’ll be buying one regardless of everything else. Don’t care about any announcement or anything...just release the thing already.

After enjoying my Tab S4 these past 2 weeks, I will keep my iPad Pro 10.5 as well for now becuz I don’t think I could buy another iPad unless it has a OLED or microLED display and mouse support. It needs both of these criteria for me to buy another one. When my display on my Tab S4 makes my iPad Pro 10.5 look mediocre especially when watching hdr Netflix and hdr YouTube, I cannot fathom updating until Apple gets OLED on their tablets in some form and mouse support (both of which I have on my Tab S4). And you can complain about processor speed all you want but the Tab S4 flies like my galaxy s9 plus and sometimes even better plus DeX and the s pen makes it more productive than any tablet with a mobile OS including the iPad Pro 10.5 that I also have.

Here's a fantastic well researched article on the timing and contents of an October event. Looks back to the last 3 as well. I enjoyed it.

I’m right there with you. I love it on my iPhone but won’t work out well on an iPad unless it has an extreme wide angle view. I’m talking 180°. I unlock my iPad with it laying down quite often.
Really couldn’t agree more. It really needs both options imo. I unlock my tablet in way different positions and situations than I do a phone.

There is plenty of time for invites to go out, invites could go out next week or the week after, the event doesn’t necessarily have to be at the beginning of the month it could be the end.

I think there will be an October event but some things won’t be available until November, so announce new iPad Pro’s, make them available for pre-order the same week and then release a week later, which is similar to iPhone.

The cheaper MacBook and iMacs might be available right away tho

I would guess an event on the 9th or 10th.

Edit: well I just checked and saw that a lot of the October events are in the 3rd week of October or later.. so maybe the 23rd/24th... or the 16th/17th.... I don’t know but I want invites out now :D

Yea I’ve also looked at some articles ans they have correctly pointed out that October events typically happen in the 3rd week of October with invites going out around a week before instead of 2 weeks. My guess is around the 22nd with invites going out around that middle of October.

Don’t expect anything for a couple of weeks at least.

so, next month is the new iPad pro with the iPhone x design like.

i have a feeling the price is going to be super $$$$$

probably 256GB-516GB with cellular $1500?? what you guys think or more?
I don’t think prices will increase like iPhone.
iPad is no iPhone, they can’t get away with it.
iPad market is much smaller than iPhone and in fact it’s a declining category unlike iPhone.
If they put crazy prices on it,it’s basically the end of iPad.
The whole tablet market is very fragile, they won’t mess with it,I’m sure.
