With the pros going homebuttonless with this redesign I’m interested to see if Apple will redesign the basic iPad (7th gen) in spring, continue to use the iPad Air chassis, or even move to the Air 2 chassis with laminated screen as there will be a more clear divide between the basic iPad and pros at that point. With iPhone they seem to have gone all in on no new models with a home button but all the X-like gesture functionality is there anyway with the iPads so perhaps they will continue on with a legacy chassis for the cheaper model?

What i have seen since we lost Steve Jobs is the changes in the build of all Apple products, starting with the cheeping of the power plugs changing from the quality plugs to the cheap ones now used on all iPhones and iPads then there is the changing of the materials in iPhone's and iPad's with less strength in the iPad body, then with removing the mechanical button in new iPhones using software to start it,and removing the old plug for the music buds forcing people to buy a costly Apple adapter.
Apple has reduced the cost of hardware and assembly but have they reduced the cost of their iPhones and iPads not a dime have they what they have done is raise their prices.
Sure the new iPhones and iPads have faster processors that are less demanding on battery power, and new software is a great step forward but is there a real need to keep increasing the prices?

It would be hard to buy any iOS device without an OLED screen anymore, especially knowing one is in the pipeline and the previous 10.5" model is not lacking in functionality. The iPhone Xs screen and iPad Pro screen should both be OLED. If you're an iPad kind of person, getting a 10.5 Pro at MicroCenter for $450-$550 and holding onto that until a more substantial update would be the best course of action.

Almost half the people polled on the iPhone X, Xs and Max screens are suffering from headaches. Imagine the havoc a larger OLED display would cause.

Where is this poll? Is it on a forum people might search for if they are having headaches and own an OLED iPhone? How many people without headaches are taking this poll? I know a few people with the new model phones and can report a 0% headache rate.

OLED would be better for video, and perhaps photos. But for internet browsing and other reading, I don’t think it would be as good. OLED shifts in color more with viewing angle change than a good LCD does. For low light reading, some people are bothered by PWM.

I'm just wondering what the Pencil 2 is going to bring.

Unless it's going to stay the same forever, it makes sense that a new one would debut alongside the new style iPad Pro.

Yeah, I think that rules out that entire week since they usually only do events on Tuesday-Thursday. Since the 24th is Wednesday and the speech is in Brussels it pretty much knocks that week off the possible schedule for the Apple event. Next week is highly doubtful because we haven't seen any invites go out yet. So I guess that leaves the week of 15-19 as the best chance of having the event. I guess the week of the 30th-November 2nd could be a possibility as well....sure hope not because we've been waiting too long as it is.

2 reasons the 16/17 October event its almost sure, Tim is going to data protection later this month, so, that week is out of the question
and Xr pre-order....Apple will not update the site twice , so 16 or 17 th October event with announcements for ipads and macs, with preorders on the 19th October along side Xr, so we will see if that 100% sure next Monday or Tuesday when we should see the invites

Which would mean invites sometime early next week :)

Hoping this comes to pass soon. I got the iPad Pro 10.5" last week and returned it. I can wait another couple of weeks! My 12.9" is starting to grate on me though. I really like the 10.5" form factor. The 12.9 is just too bulky for me. I have a Macbook Pro for when I want to take a backpack. I liked the 10.5" being able to throw it in the car and go shooting photos or something. Really nice. The 12.9 -- not so much.

I’m in the same boat. I do like the 12.9, but I hate carrying it around. After owning it for a year I feel it becomes cumbersome and annoying for my day to day office tasks. If I was an artist drawing all the time the 12.9 is great. But I’m not that so I’m looking forward to get the 10.5 to replace the 12.9.

Yeah, i’m really curious about the 10.5” increasing to 11”. As an artist, I was leaning towards the 12.9”, but as a traveler, I’m leaning towards the 10.5”. Perhaps with the 10.5” screen increasing to 11”...maybe that will be the happy medium. Portability plus larger screen.

Come on iPad Mini 5/Pro, it needs to be upgraded! It about time!
Or at least something in between 7.9” and 9.7” would be nice. 8.8”? Really curious about this announcement. If nothing fits my size interest, I’ll wait for next year’s 9.7” in the spring (hopefully).

I'll probably jump up to whatever the 10.5" equivalent is after the update but I agree, I'd love a 8.8-9.7" squashed into something close to the mini's form factor. Make it a little wider and it could accommodate a screen that size. Yes, a keyboard cover would be compromised but that's the least of my concerns and I love the mini's size for reading and working with documents.

Perhaps it will be right at the end of October rather than in the middle (so it won’t coincide with iPhone XR release).
