Now I have to check out the Nomad case at Best Buy. I have a Sea Blue Apple leather coming in hopefully soon. But I want a brown one as well.

What swayed you to the Apple case over the Nomad?

Honestly, the color. The Sea Blue is a nice mesh of the midnight blue and a sky blue. I'm thinking of picking up the brown Nomad. And to answer your earlier question, between a tempered glass and the nomad, you should be fully covered.

This year's leather case has metal buttons on the outside and what appears to be a metal plate on the inside. Anyone notice any scratches on the iPhone buttons from the metal-on-metal contact?

Do you think the Nomad would protect the phone form breaking if you dropped it from waist height onto hard surface?

I think it will protect it as much as any other leather case but it's not as protective as a case that has drop protection technology. It's more style than function. If you want a more protective leather case, Sena makes an excellent one but it is a wallet case and is only for pre-order right now..

This is the first I've heard about any metal plate on the inside, and I don't recall seeing any such thing. Pics?

Got the storm grey but thinking if I should get the saddle brown instead
I was hoping the grey is more wash out but it's getting darker after a few days of use and scratch marks doesn't rub off like my saddle brown on 6S

Stopped by Best Buy this morning to check out the Nomad cases. They are quite nice. As others have said the Navy appears to be the best quality leather. I got it home and compared with my new Apple 7+ black leather case and last year's 6+ midnight blue leather case. All are very similar. I would almost say the Nomad is a clone of last year's midnight leather case but with the added coverage at the bottom. The Nomad leather feels thicker than the Apple, and overall the Nomad is a tad heavier and stiffer. The texture of the leather seems about the same to me. One thing I really like about the new Apple case is the aluminum buttons, much classier than previous versions. I can't review fit yet since my JB+ is coming today. Overall I would say they are both solid choices. I might end up returning the Nomad and getting the brown, although the leather felt a bit rougher in the store, then pick up the Sea Blue Apple leather case instead. I'll bet the brown wears in nicely though. Bottom line you can't go wrong with either but I give Apple the edge for being a bit more elegant and having those cool buttons.

Check out this YouTube review:

I'm wondering what the part that pushes on the iPhone buttons is made out of.

Thanks for the great comparison and photos! My biggest worry with the Nomad case is that lightning cutout catching all the time as I take my phone out of my pocket.
Has anyone who has used these cases noticed them catching?

For all those questioning the material on the new Apple case buttons, the description on the Apple site says "And the machined aluminum buttons match the finish of your iPhone case." There. They are not plastic. Aluminum is light and can feel like plastic, but these are aluminum. Unless you think Apple is lying. In which case I can't help you.

I just ordered the Nomad. For $35 it was hard to pass up. And they offer full refund if you aren't happy so I'll try it out. Maybe they will ship before Oct 31 as stated on the website since they are backordered. My phone doesn't ship until last week of October so I can wait.

I have no issues getting the phone out of the pocket of my slim jeans. It doesn't catch on anything.

For the brown Nomads, I would suggest checking the stock at other Best Buys because I originally bought the brown that had a rough leather feel but when I went to a different Best Buy, there was a brown one with the same quality leather as the Navy. It also had better cutouts for the bottom speakers.

What's the fit like of the Apple leather case? Does it suffer from the same tight lower corners that the 6S cases did?

They used to bow out slightly and feel tight, hopefully the 7's are better.

Thank you so much for posting this comparison. I used the FS20 code today & ordered the Nomad. I like the better coverage on the bottom & seeing the cutouts helped me pull the trigger. I was not even looking at a leather cover (I ordered a TPU one already), but this one is so sexy that I couldn't pass it up. The fact that they don't have a big brand name blasted on the back is a giant bonus to me.

I also noticed that the blue one had the best leather quality while the black one had the worst, it sucks because I wanted to buy the nomad black leather case to compare to the Apple one

does anywhere other than Apple Stores have the leather cases in stock right now?

A local AT&T had two brown iP7+ leather cases. None for the iP7. I'm waiting for Staples since I have a gift card, but it may be a long wait. ;)

They still kind of bow out, but I think it's more of an optical illusion as its not that the corners bow, but more that the sides curve inwards giving the bowed effect. If you look at the case from the back, the sides look straight, this is backed up by looking down the line of the edges you'll see that towards the middle of the screen they curve in.

It fits well and tight and yes it does look to bow out which makes the case appear defective from the front but it must be Due to the iPhone 7 plus' size becuase my iPhone 6S(4.7inch) Apple leather case never had this bow outwards stretch from the middle to the bottom part of the case but it's fine for me i don't mind it
