Why not in portrait mode? I thought everyone used their phone in portrait mode most of the time?

I meant landscape mode :)

I felt the same way, first leather case. But like someone else said, the pictures here of the leather aging sold me, and I love the brown/black. Only case I will own...rain, sleet, snow...like the idea of my case reflecting it all.

I think the saddle brown shows patina the best out of all the color options. I was torn between the saddle brown and the new gray since I think the gray and matte black would look very nice as well. Perhaps I'll get the gray over the holidays but once it begins to show wear and darkens up the black front and the dark brown back look great together.

Essex, England.
I received a Midnight Blue 7 Plus case yesterday. I think the color will go great with the matt black 7+. The leather is great and the overall quality is excellent. Here's a few (6S) pics:

I've ordered this to go with my Matte Black too, what does it look like? Any photos?

I think some people are confused about leather quality in this thread. I have seen multiple people state that the Apple leather cases and the blue Nomad case have higher quality leather than the brown Nomad case. While you may prefer them, they are not necessarily higher quality. The difference is that the Apple leather cases and the blue Nomad case are buffed and more heavily finished and waxed. The brown Nomad case is left more natural, so it shows more of the natural imperfections of the leather, and it has less waxy finishing applied. Typically only very high quality leather can be sold less finished and cheaper leather requires more buffing and finishing to appear acceptable. If you go to a cheap leather store like Wilson's, you may notice that most leather jackets there are very uniformly colored and have a sort of shiny and waxy finish like the Apple leather cases, but if you go to a high end leather store you will find more natural grain and unfinished leather jackets. If you prefer a more finished and polished leather such as found in the Apple cases, that's fine, but don't go confusing that look with higher quality leather. That buffing and finishing actually means Apple is able to get away with using cheaper quality leather.

To go one step further, I can guarantee the Nomad cases, including the brown one, use extremely high quality leather because they state right on the box that it's Horween leather. Horween is well known as being one of the best leather producers in the United States and all of their leather is tanned in finished in the US. Apple doesn't tell you where their leather is sourced from. Usually that is an indication that it is cheaper leather and it is most likely sourced from China.

I agree with most of your comments, except that Apple does specify "European leather" and buffing and finishing is no more dispositive of quality than color - it may be used to mask inferior quality leather, it may also be done to bring out certain characteristics in high quality leather. As to the vagueness of the term "European leather," this is fairly common terminology in the leather world and is used because European leathers are more likely to be calfskin whereas US (Horween in particular) are more likely to be cow hide. Again, neither calfskin or cow hide is inherently higher in quality than the other, but they do have different characteristics and many people do prefer the look and feel of calfskin because it tends to be thinner, more supple and more uniform.

My earlier comments about the blue Nomads were not in relation to the quality of the leather but rather the finishing, which seems to be more consistent from case to case, uniform and smooth with the blue examples I've seen than the brown ones.

Good points and I agree with you. Didn't know Apple specified European leather. That makes me feel better about them. My main point was just that some people seem to be confusing finishing preferences with quality. I don't think you can definitively say which one is higher quality leather without knowing more about where the Apple leather came from and possibly cutting them open to see how well they are tanned, etc., but you may have a preference for one look or another. Personally, I prefer less finished leather with more character and a more rustic look, but I can appreciate that others prefer their leather to look perfectly uniform and pristine. Each case has its benefits. The Apple case has nicer buttons and seems to have a little bit cleaner edges / cuts, but the brown Nomad case has better bottom protection and far more grip than the Apple cases.

Some people are saying the leather is slick, but I was led to believe that after a few weeks the leather is rather grippy. IMO, this makes more sense.

Even with the new black case less than a day old, I find the phone easier to grip than compared to no case.

Picked up the ip7+ case in saddle brown. Wow, it looks amazing with the matte black IP....however, I think it's too slippery for my liking. Will probably return or sell in CL.

Do you guys think the stone gray leather will age to look black? It seems like the saddle brown gets really dark

100% agree with all of this, although notwithstanding that I prefer the leather and design of the Nomad, I still ended up going with the Apple and returning the Nomad. If Nomad ever updates their case to make it easier to access the vibrate/mute switch (ymmv - I have thick fingers) and to take the case off, however, I would be back to Nomad in a heartbeat.

Returned my storm gray case, loved the look but hated the feel.. I didn't feel confident with it..so going naked until I get a silicone case

Yeah, I`m thinking it will suck when I`m in the gym and my hands are wet from sweat. I have a clear spigen right now that looks to be already turning yellow, so I`m thinking I may just get a black silicone case for my Matte Black.

Yes, may not look black, but id assume it ages to a dark charcoal

Has anyone tried spraying All-protector on their leather case to prevent some of the dirt build up? It normally works pretty well on my leather shoes (of all varieties) and i'm wondering how it will work on the case if I do it.

This is the stuff i'm talking about, but their are other brands as well obviously.

I used some of my Red Wing Leather Protector on my case last year. Cant say if it did or didn't help, but it can't hurt

I returned mine after a few days for exactly this reason. They look beautiful, but this is a phone and not a fashion item, and so function is my primary concern. I ended up exchanging it for the Apple silicone case, which still looks very nice.

But the leather case smells so nice.

I don't normally use a case, but I've tried both this year just to have something for when I do want to throw something on. People have used the apple leather cases in the past will know this well- as of last year & including this year, the leather cases are just not the same quality. 2 years ago (for the iphone 6/6plus) the leather cases were a MUCH different finish- they actually felt like real leather, and were very soft and grippy. They no longer are like this- you can say they soften over time, which they may a little, but they are nowhere near what they used to be. It's a fact, and people have mentioned it already here. At this point, I'd say the silicone case is for sure the better option out of two- the leather just does not feel like what it should.

I haven't noticed any difference between them to be honest but each to their own!

So much for Nomad's "Now Shipping" status on their website. My order is still sitting in "Confirmed". I'm not too bothered by it as I have a TPU case on my ip7 for now, but after several folks said that they ordered last week and the site said the cases were backordered, but the status changed to Now Shipping by Thursday, I assumed they would be getting them out the door.

Now Nomad's site says their cases don't ship until 10/31. That's pretty infuriating since the site said shipping now when I bought the case. Again, I'm willing to wait because I have a case on my phone now, but if you're looking to get a case now, ordering from Nomad is not the way to go.

I 100% agree with you. The 6 Plus case was perfect with the way it felt right out of the gate. The 6s Plus case was too slippery so I went with the silicone cases instead. This year I'm willing to give the leather another try with all the awesome new colors. The product red and sea blue are my 2 favorite so far!

Go to Best Buy they have so many nomad cases.

Today, I received the storm grey leather case for my matte black 7+. I'd previously had the Apple leather cases on my 6+ & 6S+ and found them to offer great protection for my iPhones (I dropped my 6S+ from waist height face down onto concrete and luckily there wasn't a mark on my phone). And I really like the look and feel of them.

I think this case compliments my phone perfectly, really love the colour and the only issue I had with the previous cases were how much harder I had to press the volume and power buttons. So this seems perfect to me. Maybe it is slightly more smoother but not so much it bothers me.

But, the leather on the back has some lines running down it which is bugging me. Maybe I'm being too fussy, but for the price I expected better.

What do you guys think? Would you want to exchange it or am I being overly fussy?!

For what it's worth, I think those lines look good. Makes it look more like actual leather (ok, it is real leather, but what I mean is, when leather is too perfect, it can look fake). Gives it some character and uniqueness.
