A Windows 8 Metro iTunes would be an interesting idea! Maybe you're right!

If they don't they could lose their big marketshare on selling music. Since Microsoft want to go full metro, Itunes has to go metro aswell. Otherwise they have to say a growing userbase of W8 tablets farewell.

A Modern UI version of iTunes would be cool, but Apple won't do it.

All I want is for iTunes to be lighter and more efficient.

Not true. There are currently no restrictions in Windows 8 apps that say they must be Metro or whatever MS is calling it this week. Those exist only on Windows RT, which is an entirely different architecture of device and would require a total rewrite of iTunes. Apple doesn't care what Microsoft "wants" to do, as long as the majority of users are purchasing Intel (or AMD) based Windows 8 machines, nothing has to change. If Windows RT really does take off, then they may indeed create a compatible version, but the work is not trivial for an unproven and directly competing platform: think of it this way, would Apple do an iTunes for Android? Thats the real comparison to make with Windows RT.

In a few years a lot of the w8 machines have multitouch. So using itunes with touch in his current version is a pain in the ass. Result? Less and less people use itunes, same with Itunes music store. Alternative: Xbox music store; Touch friendly.

Thats all quite speculative. Windows 8 hasn't even hit yet, so no one knows how the market will react. You're also neglecting to realize that for a majority of users, touch (especially on the desktop) isn't going to be a feature they really use. Just look at Office 2013, its a desktop app with some touch thrown on top, its by no means touch-friendly. No one knows how Windows 8 will be adopted, nor do they know how this sudden flood of computers with touch bolted on will be received by consumers; the prevailing thought is that it's not going to go well.

They could make a metro version of itunes. That require more work.
Like:
iOS itunes for Metro.
Standard new itunes for old desktop style.

There is no Metro in Windows 8 or any other Windows versions, they dropped that name some time ago.

Really, an entire post with no new insight, no actual substance, just a purely pedantic correction? You full well knew what he meant but decided to be "that guy?"

Thanks for your post full of substance.
Anyway, I am looking forward to iTunes 11, the preview looked promising.

Also Apple hasn't released a so-called metro iTunes application for any platform besides its own and PC. No Android, Chrome OS, Linux, etc. Why would it make an unproven, introductory platform its first?

Exactly. Windows RT, Android, & ChromeOS are all different beasts from OS X/Windows XP/Vista/7/8. The first set are for mobile, and just like it makes no sense to make an iTunes for iOS, it makes no sense to make iTunes for these platforms. People forget that the major reason iTunes exists is as an interface for your computer and your iDevice. No one is going to be syncing their iPhone with their Surface: it just doesn't make sense. Will they sync it with their Windows 8 desktop or ultra book? Probably, and those things run Windows 8, a totally different experience from Windows RT.

I. Want. My. iTunes. NAO!!!!!!!

Could care less about the new iPad's and Mac's even though I'm getting an iPad Mini(hooray! :p) but this just feels... more special.

but this program would be for legacy windows, not the tablet version. itunes would need and want a tablet version to work on windows 8 for touch....so a new app is needed

i dont think that the design language is needed, though, it's just a guide

I've heard from a good source that it will be released sometime between Friday and when it's released.

So did iTunes Match and they just kept silent and released it late. The same is happening with iTunes.

How is this happening with iTunes? It says it will be released late October, guess what its late October for 5 more. They can release it on the 31st and still, it's concitered late October.

Now if/when October ends and we still don't have iTunes 11 then, and only then, we can call it delayed.

How can something be late if there is still 5 days left before its late?

Its Friday dudes. Any of you work in IT? If you do, you should know that major releases of software into a 'production' environment on a Friday are generally a no no - your just asking for 'Murphy' to pay a visit if you do a major release on a Friday then everyone goes home for the weekend...

Bets on next Tuesday

I might be crazy but hasn't Apple released iOS updates and such on Fridays?

Apple follows release Windows on Mondays and Wednesdays. While I cannot track releases of every Apple OS / software, I do know that in the history of iOS they have only ever released on a Monday or a Wednesday - standard operating procedure afaic !
