Shouldn't there be a iOS and Apple TV update with iTunes 11 as well since they both use iTunes??

No not really. Apple can easily change the user interface and operation of iTunes without having to change any drivers for the mobile devices.

There will likely be an iOS 6.0.1 soon but the purpose of that update will be to fix bugs with the devices not provide compatibility with iTunes 11. Compatibility with iTunes 11 comes baked in to the app, not the device.

What happened to the new iTunes?

There are only a few days left in October and apple.com still says the new iTunes comes out in October, I hope it wasn't delayed

I think it will be released some time next week, exactly because they have kept the "coming in October" label. If there was a delay and they knew they wouldn't make the October timeframe, they would replace it with an ominous "coming soon" (like they did last year with iTunes Match if my memory serves me well).

Confirmed: iTunes 11 is releasing this Tuesday, 30th October.

@marco900163 an apple developer I know posted this on fb. Would make sense too

interesting!

Someone working for Apple who would have signed a NDA would share something like that on FB, doesn't make sense to me.

I'll just believe it though since it sounds good.

I speculate in the thread Is iTunes 11 still a device manager? that Apple may be moving device management to the iCloud OSX settings panel where it belongs. I think the delay might be in waiting for the release of OSX 10.8.3 and a dedicated iCloud app for Windows.

When OSX 10.8.3 drops, iTunes 11 will be imminent right behind.

Maybe there weren't any devices shown because none were connected. Why have a devices category with nothing to show? Sounds very Apple to hide something that doesn't need to be there.

They very recently released a new version of iCloud for Windows. Would they really release a big update right after that?

iTunes 11 will not require 10.8.3. There are not any betas for 10.8.3 yet so it's at least a month away. Also, Apple will never require the latest OS for such widely-used software.

iTunes does not allow you to assign multiple genres or artists to the same song or album. This is one of the many short comings of the program. iTunes is very poor at music management.

true, though this doesn't affect me. go ahead and give apple feedback.

you can use a null character to separate values as it is part of the id3 spec that itunes uses, it is however not displayed as you would like.

personally, i find the itunes database is slow enough as it is without dealing with multiple values for fields.

Hence iTunes is poor at music management. There are other software out there in the Windows world that do the job perfectly.

It is so frustrating not being able to assign multiple composers to individual tracks.

Moving to OS X few years ago was an excellent move for me the over all user experience has been much nicer id personally wouldn't ever go back to Windows though music management is one area that leaves me shaking my head on OS X

you can assign multiple genres to an album, just assign each song it's correct genre

if it's a fusion genre, just create the correct genre, ie, "blackened thrash metal" or whatever

jeez

You can, just use the search to display all the ones that apply.

Name one. One.

Typical Apple apologist. "There is nothing wrong with the program, you're using it wrong".

I'm probably the only hardcore Windows user who stands by iTunes, but nice try.

The bottom line was that he was, in fact, using it wrong because his complaints were about problems that don't exist. Multiple genres are possible, multiple composers are possible. The only caveat would be that the composer field isn't read in some tab delimited format that would allow for grouping, but whatever, that's a minor feature nobody uses.

Will the new iTunes be compatible with Windows 8/metro UI?

The current iTunes is compatible with Windows 8. And as for "metro" (MS actually doesn't call it that anymore since the trademark isn't theirs) or whatever they're calling it this week, you'll see a tile for iTunes, but once you click it, you're out to the desktop with the standard iTunes UI.

You simply cannot add multiple artists, genres or composers to individual tracks or albums.

On Windows Foobar2000 and Media Monkey any more can all do this and more easily.

The problem does exist because you simply can't add multiple artist, composers or genres to individual tracks or albums.

How does one make an album show under two separate artists? e.g... Album tile: "G3 Rocking the Free World" Artists: Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Steve Morse. how do you have the album show up under each artists?

I don't feel it's minor either a quick search will show you many sites for as all over the web with people asking for this feature.

albums yes, tracks no

that's why there is artist and album artist, and the compilation marker

I have no idea why anyone would want or need to assign multiple genres to an individual track, beyond just assigning it whatever fusion genre it falls under. Are you asking to assign a track as both 'rap' and 'rock' but not 'rap rock'?

Foobar and Media Monkey are bushleague programs, so maybe you gain some marginal meta tagging features...but lose everything else

Bravo!
People are complaining for no reason now.
They will live when iTunes 11 releases Tuesday.

You're being difficult...who would want to do that in THAT way anyways...?

Indeed. Some people find some sick ways to manage their music and instead of enjoying it they are obsessed by how to assign more than one genre to a track? The end of the world must be close.
