Bravo!
People are complaining for no reason now.
They will live when iTunes 11 releases Tuesday.

You're being difficult...who would want to do that in THAT way anyways...?

You seem to have all the right answers so answer that question yourself.

Ciao.

How does one make an album show under two separate artists? e.g... Album tile: "G3 Rocking the Free World" Artists: Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Steve Morse. how do you have the album show up under each artists?

Album: G3 Rocking the Free World
Album Artist: Various Arists or "G3"

Tracks 1-5 'Arist' is Joe Satriani, tracks 6-8 Steve Vai, and 9-13 Yngwie

optional: 'compilation' box

I've always done that myself, there's no issue regarding multiple artists for an album. Some of these complaints are people's misunderstanding.

October release means October 30/31.

As much as I'm looking forward to it, is it really that big a deal that we have to wait an extra week after the day everyone expected it?

What would annoy me is if they've delayed it, but haven't bothered to make the public aware yet.

you can assign multiple genres to an album, just assign each song it's correct genre

if it's a fusion genre, just create the correct genre, ie, "blackened thrash metal" or whatever

jeez

You can, just use the search to display all the ones that apply.

Name one. One.
Have you ever used Zune?

Dear sweet nelly. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back to iTunes.

I just found this thread to figure that out. Wondered if I missed something. Apple's site still says October release. I would much rather they give a late date and shoot for early in the month release. Even though it's ready in October, tell us it's gonna be released November and then release it sometime the first week of November. I think they would avoid most of the complaints that way.

I am excited for this new release. I've noticed my iTunes to be slowing down quite a bit lately and I'm not sure what the root cause of it is. After leaving iTunes dormant for a few hours, I come back to play a song, click on the song or click on the playlist, etc.....pause......beachball for about 15-20 seconds, then it registers the click. My first guess would be that I store all of my iTunes library on my OWC Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 and it's accessed via Firewire 800. But it's only been doing this for the past month or two. It wasn't like this when I first started using it back in April of this year. My library hasn't grown considerably other than maybe by 20-30GB.

As a Zune early adopter, I can unfortunately say yes. And it's one of the worst functioning best-looking programs ever made.

I can't believe that in a conversation about meta tagging you mention an app with the most gimped tagging functions, gimped album art, and no 5-star rating system for files. Come on.

I THINK they said October because back in the 12th of September, November seemed a while away yet. Of course, not it's less than a week!:p

Functions great for me. And I don't use much meta tagging at all. I agree the Album art sucks, but that's the only flaw I've seen.

But aight.

Hence iTunes is poor at music management.

Only for people who want to do weird things that 99.9% of people don't care about.

It is so frustrating not being able to assign multiple composers to individual tracks.

I'm fuming just thinking about it. :D

Seriously, there are other programs out there for people who want to do finicky things that most people don't care about. Apple's design philosophy is to execute well the features that most consumers will use. The alternative is almost always poorly designed and subject to feature bloat.

Surely, you've been an Mac user for enough time to have come to understand this basic Apple design philosophy?

One longstanding shortfall in iTunes metadata is multiple artists in a song. I know you can assign different artists to different songs in an album but not multiple artists together in one song.

In a song by Deadmau5 with Nicki Minaj, the artist is listed as Deadmau5. If I want to list all Nicki Minaj songs, that one won't show up. It's not ideal but is acceptable in songs where an artist merely collaborates but where it really deteriorates experiencing your music is when you have both or multiple artists featured equally and you have to choose just one.

I've tried to stay within iTunes metadata guidelines but this is one that I've tried to get around, not ever very successfully.

This could easily be resolved by allowing multiple artists separated by commas. I'm looking forward to a lot in iTunes 11 but this is one of the unannounced features that I'm crossing my fingers really hard for.

i know what you mean.

what i do is put the other artists in the composer field, then when i search the artist who features in songs, it will bring up artists who are actually listed in the composer field without having to be in the artist field.

iTunes 11 tonight or tomorrow morning??

My AppleTV just told me it had an update! I pressed download and install and this happened:

imagejgfq.jpg

I tried to look up the update again and now it says it's up to date. I already had the latest firmware 5.1 (5201). Anybody else get the update notice?

Cupertino is fiddling around with something as we speak. I'm gonna guess iTunes tomorrow morning...

EDIT: That reads "The update was not successful".

albums yes, tracks no

that's why there is artist and album artist, and the compilation marker

I have no idea why anyone would want or need to assign multiple genres to an individual track, beyond just assigning it whatever fusion genre it falls under. Are you asking to assign a track as both 'rap' and 'rock' but not 'rap rock'?

Foobar and Media Monkey are bushleague programs, so maybe you gain some marginal meta tagging features...but lose everything else

I'm not sure about music, but as far as movies and TV shows go, I'd love to be able to assign multiple genres to them. Take Alien for example. It's a horror film, but it's also a sci-fi film. I would like to assign it to both those genres, but I can't. Or Evil Dead II -- comedy and horror.

Hopefully a wonky iTunes Store means the release is imminent. The top banner is no longer showing a rotation of content and the side panel with the tiles that slide down is missing. Or Eddy just really likes the new Taylor Swift album.

mine is still a slider and hasnt changed at all

Mine is also the static Taylor Swift album (sadly) and no rotation of different items in the store. Interestingly enough this is only the case in the main store and the music store. TV shows, movies, apps, books, and podcasts all have changing content in the main header.

Maybe a Monday launch? Hope I have power to upgrade. Damn you Sandy!

FWIW, that Taylor Swift page is done in the same style as iTunes 11, with the cover photo (album art) fading into a solid hue background

Having difficulties connecting to the iTunes store here in New Zealand. Strangely, can't seem to connect to the online Apple store either. Hope this is a sign of imminent iTunes 11 release :)
