for someone who doesn't use a passcode it is absolutely terrible. now i need a jailbreak tweak just to bring back the slide!?
Not really any different than (the default) if you use Touch ID. You still have to press home.

hence why i said for someone who doesn't use passcode

Settings>General>Accessibility>Home Button>Rest Finger To Open!
Thank me later gentelmen
yea i already knew about that through bgr but doesn't make a difference. the home button should have nothing to do with unlocking the phone, especially since I don't use touch id BUT now I have to just to unlock it easier. It's just a bad move from apple.

Imagine the chaos here if "Press home to unlock" was a thing during the iPhone 4 broken home button days.

oh man imagine lol my 4s starting losing it's button.

I actually prefer the new lock screen , Gives me more information about my day and more functionality . Am using raise to wake and rest finger to open (which i recommand to everyone!) it makes it easier for me instead of another swipe + TouchID and Camera shortcut are more reliable now. Simply loving iOS 10 .:D
Thats for iPhone 6s though ... Apple is pushing users to upgrade to the full iOS experience which is a bad move for consumers that dont belong TouchID iPhones but a great intuitive way to unlock the device with iPhones 6s , 6 and 5s.
And 3D touch is amazing on the new iOS aswell

I can't imagine not using a passcode. I've seen people do this but never understood why.
Not saying its wrong, the device is yours to do as you wish, but unless you do nothing with your device a passcode is necessary.

By default, someone who doesn't have a passcode can press home once for lock screen (or raise to wake) then again for home screen. That's exactly the same as Touch ID. I find it more difficult if you have a passcode but no Touch ID.

If you change it to the old method in Settings then you're right, it's a bit slower for non-Touch ID users.

Do you carry cash? It's your responsibility to physically secure your phone.
[doublepost=1473862243][/doublepost]Just when I was getting ready to comment on the stability of macOS Sierra GM, I update my Iphone to iOS 10.0.1 and the idiots have removed the slide to open feature. Instead, the simplest way to get to the home screen is to push the homebutton twice and do it at the proper speed. You can't do it too fast or the Iphone will not open. Personally, I'd like the home screen to open directly when I push the side button. If Apple would provide options, rather than cavalierly change things, I'd be much happier.

Using touch id does make it easier; however, I've found touch id fails depending on the condition of my fingers.

On iOS 9 i always used to press the home button to wake the display and then just rest my finger on the touchID so for me its one less step to unlock the phone. How did you unlock your phone on iOS 9 ?

So pressing the home button is unimaginably worse then slide to unlock? I don't get it.

Previously, you press the lock/unlock button (or home button) to wake the iPhone, then 'slide to unlock'. Now you do either to wake the phone, then 'press the home button' to unlock.

I must be missing something. I don't get why that's "absolutely terrible".

This just makes it the same as it was in iOS 9 if you were using Touch ID, right?

I was hoping if the screen was dark you just had to rest your finger in the button and it would unlock. I know he G5 has that option and it's pretty cool.

Mostly because people don't like change is what it comes down to. I personally like the new setup.

Yes. It basically returns it back to iOS 9 style

i try to use the home button as little as possible which is why I miss having activator. now it takes 2 presses to unlock. more you use the home button the faster it wears out, which is why on my 5s the home button still felt brand new because of activator

I 'never lose' the keys to my house or my car, either. Nor does anyone use them other then me. That said, I don't leave either unlocked (or just leave the keys in the lock) just because its more convenient.

I don't know why anyone would, but hey, its a free country.

Yep , It makes the unlock process like iOS 9 :)

pretty stupid to compare a phone to a house but it doesn't matter because it's my choice so do you & i'll do me.

Still not sure how it takes 2 presses to unlock it. When you pick the phone up, it turns on and you press the home button once and you're in since you dont use a passcode.
