People with android phones and android tablets, do your two device home screens look the same?

I have my Nexus Trio of Devices: N4, N7 and N10 setup exactly the same with few exceptions. In addition I've got the same core group of Apps installed and arranged the same on my iPhone 5, iPad Mini and iPad 4.

It makes using each of these as easy as a grab and go action.

That's a lot of devices. How do you decide on which you're going to use in any given situation?

First off I always have an Android phone & iPhone with me. Then it's simply a matter of selecting which tablet & MacBook I take depending on the workflow for that particular day. If traveling by air, the choice is more compact as most of my flights are international. If I'm working locally then it's wide open simply because I'm only size conscious when flying. I tend to work in the Android space more due to its increased capabilities and efficiency due to the fantastic, fast and fun SwiftKey keyboard.

It's sad that Apple prevents users from installing such an incredible time saver like SwiftKey. By swiping out words as opposed to hammering a hard glass surface, the average users speed and accuracy skyrockets. Not to mention the fact that I usually avoid some tasks if on iOS, that I don't think twice about doing on SwiftKey. The "it just works" slogan is far more appropriate when applied to SwiftKey.

But hey, they all have their pros & cons. My Apple usage spans decades so needless to say I am never surprised at anything that Apple does :)

I feel I want to keep one hand in the iOS pool (to be honest, not entirely sure why) but iOS 7 and iOS in general and the lack of jailbreak for at least a few months is such a huge deterrent. I can't imagine, for example, having to go back to inputting my password each time I download an app again. This is just one example.

Yet, at the same time, I don't want to get what would be a "larger Android" device. I imagine my phone and new Nexus 7 would look nearly identical, and that sort of bothers me for whatever reason; like it's excessive.

iPad Mini 2 or Nexus 7 -- not sure. Not fully convinced the Android tablet experience is up to snuff yet, but feel I'm also ready to give it a fair shot.

Time will tell, but I was just curious what people did with their Android phones and tablets.

Well look at you, you sneaky SOB :D

The only thing I hope they improve on the bezel size. The bezel on the current N7 is gigantic. Add that to the on-screen buttons and it feels like the screen is tiny.

Possibly a Nexus 8 coming. I don't think it's happening, but there are rumors:

Id buy a N8 in a heartbeat but if it doesnt happen, most likely a Note 8 that hopefully gets a update to 4.3. Just love the screen size of the Note 8 while not being a bigger device. The N7 wastes too much space on it.

I still havent upgraded to a GS4 yet though i can at anytime with T-Mobile. I want to get more details of their new plans to be able to upgrade 2 times a year first.

I gave the iPad mini to my Daughter....just dont care for iOS on a tablet or phone but it is fine with the laptop, though i still want to get a Surface Pro when the next gen comes out. I dont really have a need to stay in the iOS system. Still do not like iTunes.

Haha I'm with you there. I have been looking for a good Android tablet to try out. I installed iOS 7 beta 3 on my iPad 3, but it is still feeling boring. Very excited to see what the new Nexus 7 has to offer. And especially the new Nexus 10 later this year.

If the iPad Mini 2 comes without retina display, or if the iPad Mini 2 Retina Display comes in 2014 (there are rumors that it's planned for early 2014) then the new Nexus 7 will be the winner by default.

Really getting tired of the size and weight of my iPad 3...

I've had my Nexus 7 32GB since December and I have been very pleased with the device. Love it's screen and size, it is very comfortable to use. It is also very snappy and quite capable in terms of graphics (Games like Mass Effect Infiltrator, Ravensword: Shadowlands and The Bard's Tale look and run fantastic in it).

Looking forward to the new Nexus 7 yet, I am not sure if I will get it when it comes out or if I'll hold out for the next update after this one. My current Nexus 7 is doing nicely and will likely do till next year.

Slightly off topic, but I freaking love Ravensword Shadowlands. Total game play hours weren't that high, but it's a fantastic game. I'm currently hooked on blitz brigade though.

I agree it is a great game with some nice production values. I was quite impressed by it.

Will Google host an event for this? If so, roughly when? When was it last year if there was one?

Or will they just announce it out of the blue?

I love my Nexus 7 but lately the lag has been awful. Still, for a $200 tablet it does so much. I'm kind of eager to see the next iPad, both sizes, and the next N7 and then go from there. I really need to upgrade to something nice to get me through the next couple years of school and I am already pretty involved in both ecosystems so whoever has the better deal before Xmas gets my money.

Did a restore a few days ago and bye bye lag and slow downloads.

The love is back and I feel no need to upgrade now.

There is a bug with Jelly Bean and the memory they used in the first couple of runs of the Nexus 7. The OS is not able to issue trim commands to the storage at normal intervals. If you have an earlier model (Not sure when they switched the memory) you need to run something to force a trim. A restore will fix it temporarily but it will eventually keep coming back.

If you have root, this app can execute a trim command.*

If you do not have root, this app will fill your storage to capacity with empty files and will delete them all. Android will force a trim when it hits max cap.*

The forever gone app works perfectly for me. N7 was sluggish. Now it's back to its good old days.

I think a 1080P Nexus 7 would be awesome. I find 10" displays to be much better for tablet style web browsing.. but for watching movies in a plane/car.. awesome. ;)

I just tried out a Nexus 7 today at Office Depot. The screen size felt rather small. Especially when you account for the navigation bar in addition to tabs and URL/Search bar inside a browser...

I just tried it and the agent I spoke to said they had no information on the K009.

The latest update to chrome this week now autohides the address bar and tabs on tablets. Makes a huge difference.

You agree with a seriously flawed comparison? Ok.

Let me go back and look at your comparison supporting your side of the argument, oh wait...

Go back and look at other threads on here. Even in this dark corner of blind Android love people often say how much better the user experience is on the iPad mini over the Nexus 7. Same thing with the Galaxy Note 8 over the Nexus 7.

I think google currents was knocking folks for a loop as it continually updated. I remember reading that on xda a while back so I did what was suggested and I was good but only for awhile.

I restored totally and I am happy enough not to explore the new nexus coming out. I have tried some 7 inch devices with better resolution than the current nexus 7 but it does not matter as my vision cannot reconcile a difference, especially in portrait and using a desktop view. Nytimes and some other sites will always look fugly to me unless I go to a bigger tablet.

Thanks for your tip. I am not rooted and I will explore that alternative to stay in tip top shape with performance.

Well, here's the latest leaks as reported over at Android Central.

Two concerns I have with the leaked pics/specs (and I am taking them with a grain of salt as they are only rumors/leaks):

1) While a Snapdragon S4 Pro is certainly not terrible, considering devices are already out using the S600 (and others rumored to be coming shortly with the S800), this is a bit of a letdown. Again, hoping it proves false.

2) Too much damn bezel again. The bezel around the sides is improved but holy crap that thing has a forehead and chin. Really hope that's a prototype and not the final product.

Looks pretty decent with the reduced bezels compared to the last model. I'm pretty tempted but already have an Ipad Mini. Thinking of selling the Mini and picking this up though when it comes out. Then when the Ipad Mini with retina finally comes out I'll do the same thing in reverse...

UPDATE: Woops there's another thread already about this. Sorry about that. Can't figure out how to delete my own thread though.
