I'd like to be able to track my fitness and go back to wearing a traditional watch, but the subscription is a bridge too far for me.

Question…are they still charging a subscription for access to data? Because much like this election cycle I’ve reached peak tiredness for the subscription model. Its like just charge me $30 more up front if you havvveeee tooo, but frankly the data is not that expensive to mine directly into Apple Health or Google (insert proper app here sorry). Enough with what has essentially become a mortgage payment when you add up all these subs!

Apple doesn’t charge extra for its Watch, the fee there is for mobile service- if wanted.

Just burned out with the freemium model.

Sorry to be the Negative Nelly this morning. Have actually been looking forward to this update but can’t justify the monthly.

Are these truly useful if I have and use an Apple Watch religiously for health and fitness? Why would I need another device?
Not really. It’s really an alternative to the watch. Personally I’m considering one since I find wearing the watch more annoying all the time (plus distracting with the notifs). Having a ring that passively captures health info and that you can wear to bed for sleep tracking is a big plus.

I use an Ultra 1 for all of my fitness tracking. I’m only considering an Oura 4, if my replacement Ultra (will need a battery replacement at some point) has the blood oxygen sensor disabled. I need the sensor 2 health conditions that I have, so even thought it’s not medical grade like the hospitals, it has been pretty spot on for my tracking, and I will like to continue to track so that I can continue yo provide my doctors with this data.

It'd be aimed as an alternative for people who like wearing dress watches but still want to track their vitals/health and don't want to resort to a Fitbit or, as some people do, wearing an Watch on one wrist and the dress watch on the other!

I imagine, for wearers of both the Ring and Watch together, that the tracking of certain vitals would be made more accurate too.
That's how I use my Oura. Since I've got it, I wear my mechanical watches daily and only grab my Apple Watch when I go to the gym as I take the ring off during weight lifting.

Are you aware that you are not the only person in the world? Oura makes $500 million in revenue per year, as you can see there are people who want to wear a smart ring.

Are you serious? You mean there’s other people on this planet? I’m outta here!!

Apple doesn’t need to be in every space, what’s next? The Apple toe ring? Belly button ring?

I won't say 'never', but it is highly unlikely that I will take an interest in a fitness ring as I don't want/like rings. That said, I do wear my watch, and before I got my first Fenix, I thought I would never wear a watch...

The big thing for me is how can the device be smaller and less invasive. I think on a finger will be more invasive becuase of everything I do with my hands... I have thought about trying the Garmin Lilly Active that they just launched though, as even though I have no real complaints with my EPIX, I do find smaller is better for most functions. I would use the EPIX for sports, and the Lilly for sleep and other activities where less is more.

Of course the update comes a month after the wife got her gen 3. And they don’t have the stupid flat shape model anymore either, they’re all circular without a $50 upcharge.

We got a series 8 for her as temperature was added, but she found it was inaccurate for cycle tracking. She also doesn’t like to sleep track with it, let alone weak battery making it an impossibility. She has been thrilled with her oura so far.

Doesn’t Apple make more in one day then they make in a year? Why do we need Apple jewelry?

People said the same thing about Apple Watch when it was introduced and it requires no subscription.

Not everyone wants to wear a watch every day and many people want to track their sleep health with a wearable that doesn't require daily charging.

You might scoff at this but the market is there and if Apple entered it with an effective product they would sell tens of millions of them in just a few years.
