I couldn’t care less about usb c. Other features are ok at best to move on from my first gen Airpod Max I bought for 425. I use them 8-10 hrs a day, best headphones I have owned.

maybe a power button would be handy
+1 on this!

It used to be wishful thinking on my end, because Apple seems to be getting rid of power buttons on its more compact devices. But a power button on the new Beats Studio Pro gives me hope that they could put one on the AirPods Max 2!

I really hope that the next AirPods Max will use the H2 chip to transmit audio from H1-equipped iPhones to the headphone wirelessly using utra wide band (UWB). Unlike Bluetooth 5.3, UWB has the data bandwidth necessary to transmit Apple Lossloss format audio between the iPhone and this rumored AirPods Max.

That all sounds great and what not, but I just hope AirPods Pro and Max can turn into little in-ear and over-ear HomePods. They can be called iPod shuffle and Hi-Fi with only commands being trasmitted over Bluetooth. The headphones would use Wi-Fi for lossless Apple Music Voice, independent Siri, and AirPlay content from automatically-switching iCloud devices. But this is in la la land as of now, a guy can dream.

Can they also have the "feature" of a power off function? Perhaps by holding down one of the two buttons? My XM4s have been off for over 4 months now with less than 5% reduction in battery.

I can't believe no one has mentioned a passthrough mode so that you can actually hear Lossless tracks without compression. At the very least they should function as headphones that bypass the DAC entirely when you plug in a regular headphone cable so that you can hear lossless and HiRes music without compression. It's absurd that their $550 headphones don't work with the lossless music on Apple Music.

Wondering why Apple didn't make the vision pro device as a magnetic visor attachment to their AirPods Max line. Did they not have enough foresight to envision a whole ecosystem of products that needed to work together on a humans head? Or maybe they will.

I mean... I guess that makes sense that they didn't. As they never built an airport mesh system with built in homepod speakers. Wish they'd dogfood their own products a bit more.

Personally, rather than an analog pass-through via a regular headphone jack, I'd like to get hi res audio through the USB-C input. Plug one end of the USB-C cable into your iPad or new model iPhone and the other end into your headphones.

Does anyone else miss when apple used to update all of their products regularly? I feel like from the early 2000’s to around 2015 there were consistent updates for basically every product, usually annually but always within a couple of years. it’s crazy that the AirPods Pro 2 have way more features than the Max, when the Max costs £300 more.

I’ve been in the same boat with the iMac and the Pro Display XDR where I’ve been buying 2/3/4 year old tech as no updates have come. I hate buying old tech when you have no idea when updates are coming. I’d be okay if they lowered the prices somewhat for the old stuff, but they’d obviously never do that…

USB-C port is a given.

I would like to see a 3.5mm jack so they can be used as standard headphones, but I doubt that will happen given that they are primarily Bluetooth headphones that can accommodate some other sources, but are not trying to be a jack-of-all-sources like Beats Studio.

Though theoretically with USB-C, they should be able to be fully lossless when used wired. Also expecting a better case that fully conceals and protects the headphones.

And yeah, I hate waiting this long. I really would like to have new wireless headphones by the beginning of next year, but it’s looking like I may go with Sony or Sennheiser.

The situation with headphones is different – and there’s an obvious argument to be made that Apple has been on autopilot because of the lack of direct competition from Beats.

AirPods Max are incredibly long in the tooth right now. They were released in December 2020 and Apple still sells them for $549, even though they’re becoming increasingly dated and use the last-generation H1 chip. This means AirPods Max won’t get the fancy new AirPods features Apple announced at WWDC, including Adaptive Audio, the one-word “Siri” trigger, Personalized Volume, and Conversation Awareness.

Beats Studio Pro also lack these features because they aren’t using an Apple-designed chip, but rather a custom Beats chip. Beats Studio Pro, however, come in at $200 cheaper and offer their own set of benefits over AirPods Max.

------------
Sounds like Apple needs an updated AirPods Max ASAP or Beats Studio Pro will have them for lunch.

The price is actually more competitive in the category of headsets it occupies then you think. Apple also owns the beats line that can fulfill the needs of more price conscious consumers. I love my AirPods Max however I use the AirPods Pro equally as much. The pros are better for working out and more comfortable on really hot days

Hi Tim.

But seriously the max should be so much better.

How about a real case?

I'd like it to be able to receive and mix 2 sources at the same time. Sometimes gaming chats aren't ideal. It would be great to be able to mix the PC sound with Skype from my phone for example.
Same. We’re not the majority though. Last time I made a post like this people went on the “well why don’t you just…” crusade lol. I’d love to be able to use some airpods for meetings on my work laptop while listening to lofi or audiobooks from my personal phone. Sigh

That red one in the photo looks very good. I want that. Currently I have the green one just because all my clothes are mostly green. But if the released the red one next year, I would get it.

I never noticed the weight actually, it's very comfortable especially in cold weather (you can use it as ear muffler in winter). Also, you will need this in busy bus with lots of school kids screaming at each other.

AirPods Max default profile sounds good. Too bad it can't adopt Sony's quality of noise cancellation. Sony is the king there. AirPods Max also needs a big-time redesign.

There is no guarantee there will ever be a new model of AirPod max. For all we know is a dead product, and Apple has shown little interest in updating it, probably because of poor sales. Unsurprising given the price point.
I see them all the time around NYC FWIW
