"Finagle"... aka "plug it in". It's truly not a difficult thing to do. Really.
You’re right it’s not a difficult thing, but once you get used to just setting it down somewhere and have it start charging, plugging it in starts to feel like finagling (especially since headphones only have the port on one ear cup). It’s like a key hook. I don’t ever worry that I might have set it down and forgot to charge it, which I did a lot with the old AirPods cases (and still do with my Max).

Been using mine constantly since they came out, and I didn't realize how bad the stretching was until I took mine in for battery replacement ($80) and they were nice enough to replace the headband with a new one. I'd forgotten how nice and springy the mesh was when I first got it. Anyway, the statement that they don't have any parts to replace is hogwash. My advice to you, if your battery is at all seeming past its prime, is to maybe spring for the battery replacement and see if they hook you up?

I'll also add that for no particular reason they also replaced the right ear-cup on mine. Not the foam pad, but the entire thing. Maybe the tech at the service center was just in a good mood.
Well this is a genius plan. So I can take in a pay for a 80 battery replacement and hope they just replace the band and such?

Is it really that easy?

No guarantee on replacing the headband, of course. I'm not sure how routine it is for them to replace the whole right earcup, but apparently that's where the battery is, so they might have just done that for expediency. For me it was worth the $80 for just the battery, but the headband was a nice bonus.

sweet, moving to this plan. Do they do a test on battery in store, or just ship it out and back? thanks - appreciate it

In my case, they didn't test anything that I saw. I dropped them off one day and got an email they were ready to pick up 2 days later.

I ended up buying some xm4 while waiting for the AirPod max second gen - I paid 500 less and tbh they are pretty on par with current gen apm. Would love if apple took this type of bendy, easy to fold design in their next gen
