Yes, aesthetically it would be a challenge. But it would be nice if Apple started to 'think different' again.

It just feels like Apple is just phoning it in every update cycle. Sure, better cameras, OLED and thinner bezels. But if you look at competitors today, these features are table stakes. And with the rumoured large price hike for iPad Pros, I wish and expect more.
There is no actual competition in the tablet space. The iPad is a market in itself, and Android tablets are a blip in the market.

The base iPad doesn't include wireless charging coils and magnets for the Apple Pencil, the Air and Pro do. That's why Apple hasn't put the camera in a landscape position on those models - there's no room for it.
I think it's why so many of these rumored designs some people share of the OLED iPads that have the camera set up for Landscape mode have a notch on it, to make room for it. I know some people want the camera on Landscape mode...but not if it means it adds a notch to the iPad Pro. I think any notch would be a step backwards for the design of it. Then again, I'm iffy on the idea of a OLED iPad Pro. Considering the fact that in my job doing illustration, I have Procreate or Adobe Fresco or Clip Studio opened 8-10 hours a day, I'd be really worried that the UI of my drawing apps would end up getting burnt into it

My assumption would be that the 11 inch air stays at $599 where it’s at now, the 12.9 starts at $799, and the new pros start at $999 and $1199 respectively.

I don’t believe that the entry-level 11 inch iPad Pro is going to go from $799- to $1600 with one update, but I could see it going up by 200.

Apple pricing rumors always seem to shoot way higher than the prices end up actually being, except for the Vision Pro oddly.
The base pro iPhone has been supposed to go way past $999 over the past six years, and that just has not happened no matter how much the rumors have insisted it would.

$599 for a 64 GB model.

Agreed. It’s like the iPhone Plus in a way. And if, as rumored, the Air can use the 12.9” Pro accessories, that will be a benefit.
The only question will be.... will there be a new Magic Keyboard... the current version is something like 3 or 4 years old now...

and its very expensive. For an Air maybe using the current gen Magic Keyboard would be better for target audience.

Tablet = iPad and iPad = Tablet

The only space where a tablet means something else is probably in corporate environments where Surface devices are far more common and versatile. I actually like the solid industrial design and built in stand of the surface devices.

That’s not correct. It has magnets that work with the new USBC Pencil so it can be docked at least. We’ll see a new Pencil that works with the new iPads, the charging coil will be moved to one side of the camera.

They aren’t going to leave the Air and Pros with a less functional camera than the base iPad when used with a keyboard.

I meant in the Android space as I don’t consider MS Surface devices to be tablets but instead a full fledged computer.

I’ve deployed 3 of them to my senior leadership, for their workflows they really are nifty little devices. I actually just got them all refreshed onto the newest models. If it fit MY workflow I’d have one too as a systems administrator but I’m far better suited with my X13.

The 11” Air just uses [shares] the Magic Keyboard that fits the Pro, so it makes sense that the 12.9/13” Air will do the same thing.

But you have to admit the Surface Go 3 in particular are tablets... those ones are a bit underpowered and it's a shame. If Microsoft put something decent in those Surface devices they would be awesome. They had great speakers, screens, webcam and industrial design but let down by a weak processor.

There is competition from a feature standpoint. But no, of course not in terms of marketshare.

But therein lies the probelm. Apple doesn’t push the envelope because there is no threat. There was a time when Apple cared more about bringing new ideas to their product line instead of increasing profits and market share.

Yeah but there have been rumours of an updated Magic Keyboard for iPad... it is possible this new iPad Air will use a new Magic Keyboard.
And yes, it also makes sense that Apple would create a new MK with an exact fit of the Air camera bump (or whatever else the mock-up got wrong), since there will no longer be a 12.9” Pro.

Noooo, the front facing camera is in the wrong place. For me at least…😢. Who uses such a big iPad in portrait mode??
I do, most of the time. One of the greatest things of the iPad is that you can use it in both portrait and landscape. It’s not a big deal, but I really hope they keep the camera on portrait, it feels more natural for an iPad.

Nobody wants to spend the money on a new Pro, but you’re in need of a new one, and just a months before new ones will be announced. Lucky timing, if you ask me. ;)
awful timing lol! What sucks is that I also don't want an OLED iPad (hopefully that's just an expensive add on and not becoming standard).. I suffer from PWM from some displays..

If they are in fact introducing a new Apple Pencil with the new iPad Pro, one thing I can think of that would eliminate the charging problem if they move the FaceTime camera is if they changed the way the Pencil works and go with EMR technology like a lot of graphics tablets like Wacom and Huion use. It wouldn’t need charging and and would be easier to have different tips, because the tech would allow for smaller tips

12.9 iPad Air is so perfect iPad for those who want largest size without needs of iPad Pro unique features hence lesser cost. Excellent decision by Apple addressing universal iPad consumers. Keep calm and be happy with this 12.9 iPad Air when it arrives! 😊 Life is too short to be unhappy on anything😊
