Why do women buy lots of shoes? Although they already have lots of them, even better ones than the new ones they just bought.

Is it because the new ones could be a littlebit better in some rare situations? Even though the old ones would do the job perfectly fine in those same situations. Is this materialistic behaviour?

Just wondering...

Uh, you lost me there. I don't see how this relates to the discussion at all.

And btw, I'm a woman, and I only buy shoes when I'm absolutely forced to. ;)

Put iPhone+MacBook Pro/iMac in the place of "old shoes". Put iPad in the place of "new shoes".

Ok, but I still don't get the point of your analogy. I thought we were discussing what additional features you wanted to see in the iPad. How did we jump to talking about *why* people might want to buy iPads?

Well it´s been "a side theme" from the beginning of this whole thread, ´cause the iPad doesn´t offer anything special that I can´t do already with my "old shoes". So this is why I would like to speculate about new features that would make the iPad worthwhile doing something that the "old shoes" can´t do. And so separating itself from the "old shoes" and standing on it´s own product. Makes sense? :)

Okay. But then I'm afraid we are trapped in a circle, because to me, what separates the iPad from the "old shoes" -- iPhone / iPod touch -- is the bigger screen. Since you don't see the bigger screen as an important enough feature on its own, I suppose to you the iPad would always be "old shoes." Nothing wrong with that, it's like me with shoes:
Fashion Conscious Woman: Woo! New shoes in the latest fall colors! Must have!
Me: Who cares about colors? I just need to be able to walk in them! :p

But in any case, my question now is, why do you care enough to talk about iPads? I certainly don't spend my time arguing with people about fashion trends -- I just don't care! So, if the iPad isn't the product for you, why not just ignore it -- why bother starting this thread? What is it about the iPad that makes you care enough to talk about it?

Ok for the people we cannot comprehend Bobhail.. this is what he is saying:

Ipad, as far as specs go, is inferior to the iphone. PERIOD.

He wished the Ipad and Iphone werent considered "the same" meaning that he wishes the ipad lead the iphone, not the other way around.

He was asking anyone if they had suggestions on how that seperation can be achieved? Software or Hardware wise??

Oh, I get that part. My question is, why should we care? I don't see any need for such separation. Therefore, I don't have any suggestions for how such separation might be achieved. And the fact that after 12 pages, we still don't have much in terms of concrete suggestions suggests that the majority of people frequenting this forum feel the same way I do.

It's the screen genius! The one thing iPad has always had that iPhone never will

I was just saying that... Next iPad needs to have something special that the iPhone doesn´t have.

The screen is that special thing you are looking for!

Seriously, no cell phone can browse the web like the ipad.

OP have you even used one?

I agree that it's a little stripped down, the wifi one doesn't have GPS for example.

But the 3g ipad to me is missing only: camera, gyro, higher res, ram.

They will surely put all that into the next generation, and I will definitely wait for that one at this point.

The iPad does pretty much every productivity app better than iPhone SIMPLY because of that huge screen.

Movies are better, browsing is better. Even though the device has less ram, it's actually noticeably faster than the iPhone 4.

The reason the iPad is such a huge hit is that it is an iPod touch with a HUGE screen.

The most limiting factor on the iPhone and iPod touch are the screen, the iPad solves that.

Edit: I would rather sit on the couch reading the forums on an iPad than my i4 anyday, retina be damned!

Except I like pretty new colors of shoes.... As long as they are comfy!!!! I've got my eye on some danskos...

As for the iPad, there isn't anything I'm lacking at the moment.... No one to face time with anyway had I'd just want the cam for taking pics of receipts on the go (tried my pocket cams setting for that and it sucked), otherwise, I'm good.

Oh and I still couldn't read my brothers retina display last week. Think like a person not wearing reading glasses and holding it out at arms length... That was me. Everything was still to tiny/thin with my glasses on. It's that same reason I wouldn't ever buy the hi-res matte screen on the current 17" mbp.

Anyway. It's the screen.
