iPhone 5 online preorder was seamless, and they sold a TON more than the Nexus 4 will...just saying.

Google dropped the ball on this one big time, what an embarrassment.

I have owned every iPhone since 2007, I tried for an hour to GIVE you my money to convert me but your piece of **** system couldn't handle it.

Completely turned off to the Nexus 4 now.

You know this happen with iPhone right? It was a complete mess. I know personally it took me FOREVER to order my iPhone 5.. I'm sorry for your frustration but don't bash Google.

Anyone get email confirmation?

I was impressed that I was just able to use my google wallet to play. I didn't even realize I HAD google wallet setup. Went running to get my amex card only to find it was already in google wallet. So the actual "paying" part was a breeze.

Now if I only get my order processed!

I got a confirmation email. Took about 30 minutes after my order was placed.

Got mine within 5 minutes, but my order time was 11:34...so before most knew it was live. Yeah, not having google wallet set up would suck

Ok so i placed an order and immediately received a notice that there was a problem processing my order. I emailed customer service then got a notice that my order would ship on the 15th (i thought there was a problem with my order??) I checked my credit card and i have been charged twice for 2 8gig Nexus. I really wanted just one and I don't want to screw up canceling an order so i dont get a phone, what should I do?

Look at the prices on ebay and start cheering.

Given the near-instantaneous sell-outs world-wide, and given the relative lack of media focus (as compared to the iPhone, certainly), it seems to me that the worldwide initial stocks must have been exceedingly low. 100K units, maybe? I suppose it's possible there were legions of people all desperately refreshing the site all day long to order, but I doubt it.

I continue to believe these are Google-subsidized seed units whose sole purpose is to create demand for carrier units. Note that there is no shipping delay time or whatnot - you either got the phone, or you were told to check back later. Google does not intend to sell many of these directly.

I am a bit disappointed, though, that apparently Google's Play Store is run using a Chromebook as a webserver. Nothing else explains the horrible performance under what is likely a non-crushing load. I mean, really - it went live in the US at 11:32 or 11:33am. Not a standard time people would be checking. And still, the store became unusable immediately - within seconds.

Just wait until your order arrives. If you do end up getting two, either return one or go to XDA-Developers to sell it. There will be people willing to pay the price you paid + shipping or you can try out Craigslist.org.

Nothing that's worthwhile is ever easy. :)
Except hugging your kids.

Speaking of which...

* gathers up iDevices *

* holds them close, tells them they are loved *

* then tells them that Daddy has another one on the way, but with a different mother *

Still no email confirmation even though Google Wallet says "Google Wallet sent a copy of this receipt to xxxxx@gmail.com."

No such email has been received. Getting a little concerned.
The lag seems to be increasing significantly. If Wallet says you have one, you almost undoubtedly have one. The email might take a while.

It's quite possible the mainstream media didn't see this coming. Possibly Google didn't expect to see this kind of reaction. They have an amazing product at an amazing price point.

Also, let's not forget that the nexus is probably the phone that all the geeks (like me) are going for, you know the kind that would refresh every millisecond in order to get the phone.

Indeed (I mean, hey, I had three servers checking the site on two different networks, and four different browsers on different networks ready to order).

But... the iPhone is something everyone knows about. I'd guess that well over half the population knows roughly when it's coming out. The Nexus 4 has gotten almost no mainstream press. I realize the geek community is legion, but we don't have mainstream numbers.

I suppose it's possible a million were sold, but I still peg the worldwide total for today in the low six figures. I'd love for it to be more, but the sell-out times are just too small for me to think there are that many.
